Found this deal on Amazon, I actually purchased one of the 'mega' bars over the weekend ($40 more but you get a longer sleeve and two different handles for variation with the height of the pull).
Looks like based on the reviews these are re-finished bars and are spray painted rather than coated - but for home gym use it is a good value.

No problem - mine shipped out today and I will post a couple of pictures when it arrives.

I do not think that it would be rackable, but if you wanted to do pulls from a higher elevation you should just prop the weights up on wood/plates/etc.

Being an equipment junkie, I'm so tempted.
My traps don't need help though, they are one of the few bodyparts of mine that have developed well. Now if they only made calf bars, or upper pecs bars. lol

You probably could use a trap var for training calves. Maybe even upper pecs too! (They're great for overhead press and probably a steep incline press too if you can get them into position - the rackable ones are best for this.)
I had always thought that trap bars got their name due to folks using them for shrugs thus working the trapezius. But I read somewhere recently that they're called that because the original trap bars had a cage which is trapezoidal in shape. It seems that the hex shape is more common these days, however.
Paul Kelso, in Kelso's Shrug Book, says that it was developed by Al Gerard for training for the deadlift without placing as much shear force on the spine as the conventional barbell deadlift does.
The primary exercise that I've been doing with mine is the trap bar deadlift. It turns out to be more of a squat type movement than a barbell deadlift though. This is especially true if you stand on a platform or use smaller diameter plates.

Kelso's Shrug Book is a pretty decent read.
I usually use mine for deadlifts, too, and agree that it feels like more quad involved.

Actually Gerrards trap bar was square. And you can still get one if you want it:
http://www.trapbartraining.com/index.html#
All the others are hex shaped for two reasons:
One) When using the square one some people feel it comes to close to hitting their legs
Two) The square design is patented.

I know. Apparently squares or diamonds are trapezoids too. (I checked this before posting because I wasn't exactly certain what a trapezoid was anymore - it has to be four sided with two parallel sides.)
I don't actually know whether Gerard chose the name because it was great for working the traps or because of the shape of the bar.

Huh, I didn't realize that a trapazoid could have more than two parallel sides. now I've learned my fact for today I can go to bed. Now you got me wondering too, though the exercise that most often makes me want a trap bar is shrugs.

I would watch it, I saw it for $85 then it shot up to $150 ish, when I saw it had dropped back down to $85 I didn't wait. Amazon is weird like that sometimes
The knurling is a bit rough and it looks a little bent but I can't complain considering what I paid for it
