This is the one I have - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MPU106/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i00 ... I believe it may also be the one that EliteFTS used to carry (or still do?). It's holding up so far.

Black foam roller and blue rumble roller. The black one is just relaxing. The rumble roller is a bit painful at times but not too bad. It might be different for me since I have sixty pounds on you so when I lift my butt off the floor there is more weight being loaded on the knobs. Try holding a 50 pound dumbbell in your hands and use your feet to roll back and forth on your back. See if that helps. lol

Edit: I thought you were talking about the rumble roller. But yeah, its good. I use it when I need to get down deep.

I used to after my judo practice. Inverted rows with someone holding your legs are also great.

But our favourite was to grab on a single ring with both hands and spin as fast as we could and then try to run in a straight line. Good times.

I was definately trolling as a primay... but I was also pointing out that something being your #1 goal in life is often overstated. I've known professional athletes whose life goal was to go pro in their sport with extreme goals and they are willing to sacrifice anything... relationships, their health everything to reach their goal. There have been interviews/studies with Olympic athletes and many stated they would be willing to die 2 years after as the price they pay to win a gold medal in their sport.

It might be a goal of his but it isn't his #1 goal in life or he wouldn't be 209 lbs.

I doubt that was what DB was advocating. He was just saying what most of us were thinking. Hey, I'd love to pull 600, but.................

No I obviously was not advocating that for anyone let alone an 18 year old... I am pretty firm on my stance that anyone who isn't like an NFL prospect on a full scholorship has no business touching any hormones at that age. I was however pointing out however that if something really and truely is someone's #1 goal in life (again I have known people who talk abotu something being their goal but it really isn't as they do jack **** towards truely trying... and people who really sacrifice to win in ways that are downright stupid and boardline insane) they will do almost anything to reach that goal, no holds barred.

I'll give you a non-athletic example. I knew a guy who decided he wanted to make millions with his own business. He spent hundreds of hours researching everything, finding investors etc, even though it was an area he had years of experience with, got all the investments, and worked 16 hours a day 7 days a week at his business, slept at the office even (and took business calls when sleeping) even with a wife and new born baby at home, for 3 years. He put blood sweat and tears into and sacrificed everything to give it 100%. Today has had made several million now and his business is successful. It was his #1 goal in life.

Just shave it off bro. Will you sacrifice to win? Or you could try blocking the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme ffs... this is 2012 and you hasing sides from conservative supplementation? Come on bro... get with those times.

Actually bulking to 242 I think was a wise move for me, it let me regain a lot of old muscle and strength back extremely quickly even if I really should have been cutting... and gives me a better foundation to work with before trimming down to 200. Go for it.

Actually I don't get any thinning as a side effect, but I also have almost zero DHT in my body, I have been buzzing my hair for like 7 years so people just assume I am bald or have thinning hair. I do it because it is cheap, I hate messing with hair and have bad psoriasis and it helps my scalp not look like a shedding snake.

They're knee sleeves (look like Titan sleeves), they keep your knees warm and joints feeling good (and depending on the size, they can provide a bit of compression). I've had knee troubles when I started Smolov and adding in knee sleeves have alleviated a lot of the pain.

ErickStevens

Employee discount FTW.

I think I'll invest in knee sleeves. Wear them on all working sets? My left knee is concerning me. It's been a ton better since diligent foam rolling, but on occasion if I'm standing straight up and lock my knee inward, I'll get a sharp pain in my ACL/PCL area.

Bench progression is damn slow comparatively to my other lifts. I swear I may actually row 500(415x3 today, got 4 reps friday) before I bench 405. Haven't maxed in a while, but hit 325x5 last workout(TnG, like always). Grindy as sh!t. Pressing heavy all with high frequency takes it's toll on my shoulders, too. I may look into a heavy/medium/light type of pressing routine after this cut.

Have you ever thought about doing a pl competition? IIRC you have only been lifting for like 2 years and have a 600pull and 400 bench, sounds like you have serious potential.

Atm, I don't have much interest on competing. Plus my paused bench wouldn't be 400. I tried paused bench once a while ago and the most I tried was 315. I felt like I maybe had another 10-15 in me, but definitely not anything close to 400. Don't know where I'd be now, but I doubt it'd be that much more. Plus my squat is ****. Hit 385x3 earlier this week, but it is probably my most frustrating lift. Either way, at this point no interest, but I said that about BBing and I'm strongly considering competing next summer or the one after. Some old BBer at my gym keeps encouraging me to do one at the end of this summer, but I have too many holes to fill and I'm slowly breaking the code of my body and how certain muscles respond to training stimuli(ie I think my legs grow better with higher rep work) so with another bulking phase or two I think II can have a really solid base physique to work from.

Definitely tldr.

Looking to up my strength by switching too a more 'powerliftery' type routine. Seems to bee quite a bit of experience in this thread, feels appropriate I post here.

I'm about to start my 3rd mesocycle of 5/3/1. I am getting linear strength gains and enjoy the structure, but sometimes I wonder if I would be better off with a standard 5x5. Anyone got any suggestions? I'm a firm believer in not fixing what ain't broken, but always up for some feedback. Current routine is based off the one here (http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/the_boring_but_big_3month_challenge).

Mon, Delts
OHP - 5/3/1
Flat BB Press - 5 x 10
Lat PD - 5 x 10
Bicep, Tricep, Face pulls - 3 x 10

Tues, Back
Deadlift - 5/3/1
Front Squat - 5 x 10
Ab Wheel - 5 x 10
Standing Calf Raise, Seated Calf Raise, DB Shrug - 3 x 10

Weds, Chest
Flat BB Press - 5/3/1
OHP - 5 x 10
BB Rows - 5 x 10
Bicep, Tricep, Face pulls - 3 x 10

Thurs, Legs
Squats - 5/3/1
Sumo Deadlifts - 5 x 10
Hanging Leg Raise - 5 x 10
Standing Calf Raise, Seated Calf Raise, DB Shrug - 3 x 10

Fri, Upper
Flat BB Press, OHP - 8 x 3 (speed)
Bicep, Tricep, Face pulls - 3 x 10

Sat, Lower
Squat, Deadlift - 8 x 3 (speed)
Standing Calf Raise, Seated Calf Raise, DB Shrug - 3 x 10

Also I sometimes go to the gym twice in one day to stop myself drinking during the week. I really hate cardio so I usually just do more weights. Obviously this isn't ideal (it's the better option), but as long as I stick to working a muscle group that I'm not using the following day and am well below the 80% range, it shouldn't really have any impact, no?

Edit: I also don't do any compounds if I go back at night. Only isolations.

I think it's good to have both a row movement and a pulldown/pullup movement, but if you're only going to go with one, then row would generally be the better option.

Why cable crunches over ab wheel? I found the ab wheel far better for core strengthening then cable crunches.

Specificity of training with the abs.

I am just not a fan of lat pulldowns. They are a fluff movement. If you aren't strong enough to do weighted chins/pullups don't bother with a pulldown movement. Just stick with rows.

Yeah, I kind of agree. But most people I see doing rows don't really work the lats at all, it's basically all mid back. Not that working the mid back on rows is a bad thing, but if that is the case you would want some sort of lat movement. That being said, Yeo is a pretty smart dude and I'm sure he knows how the lats work biomechanically.

Definitely not necessary, but if I was doing that I'd add a tiny bit more volume with legs. On the deadlift day I'd probably do a few light sets of a hamstring movement, then on the squat day a few light sets of a quad movement.

I agree, definitely feel it in my bi's doing pull ups. I always just figured it was positioning of my hands. My gym has those crazy angled pullup grips so I can do like 3 different positions. The wider I go the more it moves to my upper back, the closer together or more angled the more I feel it in my bi's and mid back. If that makes sense.

I'm doing my own meet prep these next five weeks. Here's what it's looking like:

Monday
Squat + Close Grip Paused Bench or High Incline Bench + Arms / Abs

Wednesday
Deadlift + OHP + Back / Delts / Abs

Friday
Bench + Pause Squat + Arms / Abs

Saturday
Deficit Deadlift or Pause Deadlift + Back / Delts / Abs

The cycle will start with moderate weight/higher volume and taper into heavy weight/low volume, hopefully culminating in some big 2RM PRs. I'm aiming for a 500 x 2 squat, 275 x 2 bench, and 585 x 2 deadlift.

Jase and other leg brahs. I really want some joocy legs. What's your routine/training style opinion on purely working legs for size. I was thinking squat 3x per week 8-15 reps sets.

That would work. I would also make good use of those two leg machines.

Not enough info on you personally to give an ideal routine but a combination of rep ranges on different days with some 5x5 and going as high as 15-20 on others 3x per week. Squats as a primary, front squats and hack squats as a secondard for quads. For the hammies a combination of good mornings, RDLs and leg curls ranging 5-12 reps depending on the lift.

I hate training quads. I don't mind squatting, but every other quad movement just feels awkward to me.

I'm purely talking quads.

I'm doing high bar oly squts and front squats as my main quad movement now. I can not low bar squat anymore with tendinitis. I've only ever hack squatted once and I hated it. Very awkward on my knees. I also really dislike leg presses. I don't like leg ext, but they are bearable.

3x5 x3 per week can of course build some decent legs if you're progression, but I want to make it more size specific, rather then get big legs by getting strong.

Agree on the different rep ranges. I'd probably do a 5x5 like you said, then some 6-10 and 12+.

If my goals were purely hypertrophy my two leg days would looks like this:

High Bar Squat 3 x 5, 1 x 10-20
Lunges 4 x 10
Romanian Deadlifts 4 x 10

Front Squats 3 x 5, 1 x 10-20
Lunges 4 x 10
Leg Curls 4 x 10

If I train quads with the volume and weight I do using those machines, I always get some soreness at the two "tear drops" of the quad.

I'm on an aggressive cut at the moment, but would like to test my 1RMs on say the 25th of June. What is the best way to do this. I should have my 1+ week of 5/3/1 the week before so should be primed. I am having a week off as i move countries the week after.

Any ideas of what I should do diet wise? I am currently calorie cycling with 4 days of heavy deficit (1K) and the rest made up on feel and energy levels

On 1's week I'll do something like 5/2/1/calculated 1RM/PR. Seems to be working fine thus far. Carb load day before and day of, get that bloat on.

I've worked out my goals to hit a 1100 total.
120KG Bench
165KG Squat
215KG Deadlift

I want you basterds to push me to that. Hopefully I will reach that at 75KG

You'll have me beat on all but the squat. You want to hit these numbers by December or earlier? I think you can hit them by August TBH.

In the last 6 weeks I've gained 3kgs, & added 18kg to my squat 1rm prediction. Getting stronger is teh funs.

Good **** man. Go and actually squat an 18kg PB though, not just use a online estimate.

I'm still unaesthetic enough to be in. Well body-wise... my facial aesthetics went from a solid 9.5/10 to a 10/10 during this cut, particularly when I go one day without shaving.

Ah well, I remember reading on youtube comments or some forum how Steve Reeves looked like garbage and how anyone could look better than him with hardly any training, blah blah blah. I imagine the person that wrote it was a real peach. Same type of stuff with Frank Zane. Yeah, OK.
