View Full Version : Reduce Calories + Continue Lifting...OR...Keep Calories Same + Lift + More Cardio???

Wut do?

Currently on 2400 calories (about 200g protein, 200g carbs, 90g fat)

Weights: 4x per week
HIIT: 2x per week
Sunday: Rest


Should I start doing Low Intensity Cardio after every Weight Lifting day? That would be 4x per week, for about 40 minutes...

OR...should I just keep the same workout routine, and just decrease the calories? If I decrease the calories, then would 2000 calories be okay?




ULTIMATE QUESTION: DOES CARDIO TARGET 'FAT' LOSS MAINLY??? What about cardio after lifting?




My Goal: To hold onto (or build) as much muscle as possible, while i lose fat.

this is a great question.... There are ways you can make cardio primarily burn fat ( glycogen stores are low ) but i think its just a matter of personal preference... i would recommend someone with a slow metabolsim to do some cardio otherwise their going to be eating a REALLY low calorie diet to cut...

Actually eating less or doing more cardio achieve the same thing, and that is puting you into a caloric defecit. Weight loss is all about eating less calories than your daily maintenance. Weather you choose to eat less to reduce calories, or to do more cardio to reduce calories, will ultimately achieve the same thing. You can do one or the other, or even half and half. Just go with what you believe you will stick with for longer. Some people love food too much, so they do more cardio. Some people hate cardio too much so they eat less. Eeither way is fine.

As for your main question. Cardio targets cardiovascular health mainly, its good for your heart and for endurance. You can do cardio any time of the day, just make sure you include the deficit you create into your daily calorie calculations.

will doing cardio after lifting cause any muscle loss if you dont utilize your 1 hour post workout time frame to replinsh your body with nutrients due to doing the cardio? shoudl you hit your post workout and THAN do cardio?
