Whenever my computer goes to sleep from being idle, it disconnects from the internet. I already unchecked the option that allows power saving mode on the connection, but that hasn't solved the problem. Reps for helping me figure this out so I don't have to reconnect every time I sit down at the computer.
Other possibly pertinent info:
-Windows 7
-It remembers my password to connect, but I have to manually select to reconnect to the internet

Check OP, I said I had already done this.
1.go to ur control panel
2.select network and internet
3.select network and sharing center
4.select ur wireless connection and make it ur home network
If u have a question or cant do it ask me i'll take u step by step

Not the solution :( I already had connect auto checked, and checking the other one did not help (I did restart my computer to ensure it took the change)

adapter
alright thought so bcuz this doesnt make sense with a cable
i would just recommend reinstalling the software/drivers for the adapter
though i dont know why this would happen i just have a feeling that the service for the adapter turns off when the comp goes to sleep and fails to turn back on (wtf)
type msconfig in the "serach progs and files" box on the start menu and check to make sure its enabled under both start up and services (should be under something made by the company of ur adapter ie dlink)
lemme know wat happens

Dang man, I had a really similar issue to yours. I remember in my case I found a workaround, to go to command prompt and do an ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew. But I eventually figured it out. Let my try to track down what mine was caused by. Do you have a firewall? Antivirus? Antimalware? Seem to remember it being one of those.

Do you have that Intel Proset Wireless program on your computer? My last laptop had that, and every time I closed the lid and the computer went to sleep, it would take 5-10 minutes for the wifi to reconnect once I opened it back up. Such a hassle.
I uninstalled all those Intel programs and restarted the computer. Windows automatically detected my wireless adapter and installed its own drivers for it, and the problem has not returned.

No, sir, I don't believe I have that program.

What I would do as a test is disable all antivirus, antispyware, windows firewall etc. Reboot, uninstall the wireless adapter driver, reboot. Let it autodetect the device and reinstall the drivers. Then try it out.

What version of Windows 7 do you use?
Also, please go to Device Manager and list what shows up under Network Adapters. - http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-7/515982-how-use-device-manager-windows-7-a.html (Don't go past Step 4.)
We'll start troubleshooting once i get back the requested information.

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
btw, I just realized that power saving options were only turned off on the middle one there. Although I'm pretty sure that's the one through which I'm using internet, I turned it off on the other two. Not sure if that will help...

The middle Adapter is the one that is connecting to your WAP (Wireless Access Point), which your router created.

Okay. Right-click on the middle adapter and there should be an option to Update? This will check to see if any updates are available for your wireless adapter.

Okay. Someone earlier in the thread suggested that you uninstall the driver for your network adapter and then reboot. Once you reboot, Windows 7 will recognize that new hardware has been installed and will prompt you to install the drivers for that device.
If that doesnt work, then try this: - Go into Device Manager. Double click on Network Adapters to show yours. Right click on your network adapter and select Properties. Click on the Advanced tab and select Wake On Settings. Change the setting to OS Controlled and click OK. (Its worked for other people.)
Hopefully that resolves the issue.

Before uninstalling, there is the option to "delete the driver software for this device". Do I want to do that as well, or just uninstall?

OP, turn off your windows firewall and see if that fixes it...
