So after dealing with a fairly shady issue with wells-fargo, the girl and I have decided to attempt a go at online banks and dump these fckers. Looking between Ally and ING Direct. Anyone have experiences with either of these good or bad?

Heard good things from both. Personally have ING and like it. Perhaps you should also look towards a credit union.

I have used both and I like both.

Currently I have all of my savings/checking/CD accounts with Ally and couldn't be happier with them. Highly recommended.

Checks are free and they even send you postage-paid envelopes to send in checks to deposit. Customer service is very good. No complaints.

The only negative to an online bank is that you can't deposit cash. However this is rarely a problem for me since I don't get paid in cash or run any gambling operations or anything.

This is why I still have my BofA checking account. Hate them with the fury of a thousand suns, but I can't deny that the sheer number of ATMs is a real convenience. Anyways, a lot of online banks will credit you with incidental ATM fees.

Oh, that's another thing about Ally. You could use ANY ATM in the entire country and not be charged fees by Ally. They reimburse other banks' fees monthly.

It's a win-win on the ATM thing. Bank of America might have 10,000 ATMs and Chase might have 10,000 ATMs, but with Ally, you have free access to every single ATM in the country.

Don't they have a limit of fees reimbursed per month?

Check out a local credit union before you make a decision. I dont know your situation, but I'll never leave my CU. Far and away the best service I've ever had.

I don't think so. I've had four or five ATM withdrawals at $3.00 each and had no problems.

I'd advocate the use of a credit union too (I'm also a member), especially for loans. Nobody will give you rates as low as a credit union will. NOBODY.

What about 100 transactions a month? What's the limit (if any)?

I said I don't think there is a limit. I haven't checked on 100 because I don't visit the ATM 3-4 times a day.

Good things to consider. We are going to look into a credit union as well. reps all the way down for those I can rep.
