Prime your battery:
when you get a new battery it is important that you prime it right. Doing so will actually increase the capacity of your battery and it is simple to do..
step 1: charge the battery to 100% without using it
step 2: boot up the bios and let your battery run out
step 3: charge to full again

This will actually boost your Mahs. you can see how it changes your capacity by using something like batterymon.

Underclock your graphics card:

when you are doing stuff that does not require much of your graphics card to function it is best to underclock your graphics card instead of just selecting a different power option to save battery life. I find that ifi go into power saving mode that even surfing the web lags for me. IF i set it to entertainment mode or high performance mode everytihng runs fine, but the graphics card is killing the battery. To solve this download MSI afterburner (or something of the equivalent if that does not work for your system) and underclock your graphics card. i find setting it to the minimum that afterburner allows me actually doesnt effect surfing and basic tasks at all. This improves battery life dramatically.

Nice post. If you underclock it you can probably undervolt it as well, that will cut a lot from the power consumption
