So most of the articles that I have read speak to having 1g of protein to 1 pound of bodyweight. My question is if you lose weight to you adjust your protein to your new bodyweight for example I’m 220 currently and if I drop 20 pounds to 200 would I then only intake 200 grams of protein?

I would recommend 1.25g per pound of LEAN MASS. Otherwise you have people carrying a lot of bodyfat using ridiculously high protein intake that simply isnt necessary. LBM is a much more accurate (and stable) number to deal with.

I figure 160 lbs of lean mass for myself (which is very generous) so that puts me at 200g of protein. When i cut, I bump that number up by 10-15g for a little extra padding (and keep it steady through prep) but its probably way overkill.

so are you saying that i should shoot for the lbm instead of route... I’m probably around 25% body fat right now… so if I do my number right then it would be around 190…. Also if I was going to go with the 1g per bodyweight would I drop the protein to match my weight until I hit 190?

LBM wouldn't change much if at all whilst dieting so if your 225lbs at 25% that's roughly 170 pounds of lean body mass, 170 x 1.25 = 210g protein and like Sean said you could bump it up to 220-225g to be on the safe but it's probably not necessary.

In addition to what has been said, you will constantly want to adjust your numbers as you progress whether you are dieting or gaining. Once your body weight stabilizes at whatever nutritional plan you are following, then that becomes your new maintenance level and ratios (including protein as pertaining to your question) should be adjusted.

Having said that, protein intake will vary depending on whether you are dieting or not. Since you mention losing weight in the question, I will assume that's the direction you are going. Typically anywhere from 1.1g-1.4g/lb bodyweight (or LBM) is a good range depending upon what dieting approach you are going to use.

Hope that helps
