so here is my idea. If you are in the military and visit this site and would like a care package of cookies or goodies sent for Christmas...you could post on this thread and let us know

If you would like to adopt one or two and send them a little care package then you could contact them and let them know?

what do you think? not sure if this will work or not but I would like to give it a try.

good. now think about what you want...what you might need..could be lots of things like a new book to read or a cd to listen to or oh I dont know...shaving cream whatever...ask your roomate too.

I found my grandfathers v-mail from ww2 when he was in Africa and felt so sad how most of them were requesting correspondence (and lucky strikes:) ). I remembered writing letters in the 6th grade during the gulf war so I looked up a way to do that today and found that website. I was unsure about it and one of my first posts was asking if any members here (since I noticed there were quite a few soldiers) what they thought of it, I got an overwhelming positive response. So I chucked aside my extreme anxiety, and ignorance of military life/culture and decided to go for it. I cannot express how glad I was I did it.

It was really odd that something I took maybe 10 minutes to put together got such a amazing response. He didn't respond often but each time I was blown away how humble and grateful he was.

Anyway, I think it would be a great feature if bb.com had a feature similar to aauss.org such as when you order, buy something to send over to a soldier. I have pm'd a helpful soldier (who gave me great ideas to send stuff over there) and got his APO to send protein. However, it probably be better for soldiers to give thier addresses to the website instead of random strangers online. There seems to be a lot of interest in helping anyway.

I could give you the address to the 340th in the desert. Those guys don't get any of the fun stuff because they aren't marines/army and they aren't in direct combat (support operations) Everyone forgets about the support operation guys! I have been thinking of collecting a bunch of stuff out there through our work center.

If you want to sent something to some airmen just let me know and I will PM you the address.

Damn, now all I think about is cookies. This was definately worth the 'break' in calorie intake. I don't care how much I eat. I can tell you they wont last long. yes, it is true that it took a certain amount of trust on his part...and convincing him on my part. I baked him the same kind of cookies that I make for my own children and nieces and nephews each Christmas.
choc chip, oatmeal scotchies, rice krispy treats, peanut butter cookies with kisses, I forget what else.
They were made with flour, eggs, vanilla....nothing bad.

FYI...if I was a guy pretending to be a chick I'd pick a better picture to use...someone thinner and uh..younger :)
