The focus this year is on the Dead Sea Scrolls. This will be great especially since my mentor will be with me and he was one of the first to work on the Scrolls when he was a grad student. He in fact was the first person to translate one of them.
I am jazzed!! :)

I grew up playing baseball & Football with Dr. Robert Cargill who also worked on something having to do with the Scrolls (sorry, I'm not that knowledgeable on the subject). He's now working at U of Iowa.
I lost touch with him after high school, but am FB friends with him now and he posts about the Scrolls every now and then.

Sounds really cool!
I haven't read the Dead Sea Scrolls at any length, but I have read most of the Nag Hammadi scriptures, which were discovered a few years before in Egypt. The Gospel of Thomas has become a favorite.
Will be interested to read what you think of the scrolls and conference. Enjoy! :)

My mentor hasn't been up to being at the whole conference so I have only caught 4 speakers so far and will likely only catch 2 or 3 tomorrow.
Last nights speaker was Dr. James Charlesworth of Princeton Theological Seminary, tonight I ran into him in the hall and had a short visit with him. An incredibly brilliant man very personable and humble. I thanked him for his presentation but he was more interested in finding out about me and thanked me for deciding to go into the ministry. Amazing man and I look forward to reading some of his writings now that I've met him.

The focus this year is on the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Couldn't you guys just find somebody to resurrect the scrolls and let them speak for themselves?
:D
Have fun, Roy!

Have fun Roy. Enjoy. I have to pull the chainsaw out this weekend. I have about 20 trees to cut from the storm. Time to make firewood

Sounds fascinating. I would have loved to have been invited. Studying scripture has been a hobby of mine for years.
