found this article regarding ECGC (Epigallocatechin gallate) and according to this website http://fatnews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/1704/ it kills mature fat cells, does this mean it completly gets rid of fat cells? because im sure i have read conflicting information some saying that fat cells, once created are there for life basically. anybody shed some light on the situation.

I'm pretty sure that is inaccurate. I'm not an expert and haven't looked into it much, but from I know EGCG won't 'kill' fat cells. It has something to do with adipose tissue and their ability to store fat. The cells can increase and decrease in size, but I'm pretty sure one can't kill them. If someone gets liposuction they are removing adipose tissue and effectively "killing" the fat cells I guess, but EGCG alone won't get rid of fat.

That is true, green tea also speeds up the metabolism.

Well I must say, my grandparents both tried this "ab flattening" diet with pretty good results. It claimed that you would lose 10 pounds of fat in 3 days. Much to my amazement, it worked quite well. They both weighed 10 pounds less and legitametly looked slimmer. Now in this diet they drank a crap ton, and I mean A CRAP TON, of green tea. Sure the sudden decrease in calories, mainly from fat and carbs since it was higher protein, could also have affected it. Buuttt I was just letting y'all know, seems like green tea works.

Caffiene and Green Tea stack for cutting is amazing.

These are the two main ingredients in most of the major fat burner supplements eg: Hydroxycut

The effects of green tea on metabolism or fat loss is insubstantial. Nothing beats hard work and a deficit. The only way to "kill" fat cells is to get them removed. e.g. liposuction.

So if one cannot "kill" fat cells, and they are there for life, then is a person who had significantly high bodyfat (30%) doomed to never have abs or a ripped look in their life?

When fat cells are empty they get really really small. So the answer is no.

But who knows?

Any supplementation you're doing should be in addition to a proper calorie controlled diet and proper exercise routine (cardio and weights ideally, depending on your goals of course).

If you're not doing that, then green tea or any other supplement is a waste of time.

If it is in addition to the right foundations, then it may help you reach your fat cutting goals a little quicker.

I've found things like green tea stacked with the right ingredients (like caffeine) can actually work quite well when I'm training hard and eating correctly, but there is still much contention about many such supplements.

Do your research, look for a bunch of different reviews & information from different sources, and treat any claims with a grain of salt. There are many effective supplements, and even then the effects are often overstated (plus some are just down right bad for you).

To completely undermine everything I've just said, 80 cals is bugger all. You could add a bit of activity daily to get that, plus all the indirect health benefits you'd get that you can't put in a pill/sachet.

Negative. Fatter you means bigger cells. Not more cells.

Just my thoughts...

Have used it, not super effective in my opinion...diet and excercise are the key, this may help if you are doing those two things

I'm highly skeptical of green tea as helping to burn fat because I have drank it like 4-5 times every single day of my life. Once I started dieting to reduce cals, I cut down to mainly just water to drink, so I haven't drank much green tea for several months. I notice no difference.

I do think its very healthy though.

Dieting and exercising for sure will help you lose weight. Green Tea may help or may not but I still drink it because it has other benefits, as well. I would focus more on drinking a gallon of water a day. That will definitely help lose weight. I've noticed my weight go down when I started drinking a gallon of water everyday.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head right here.

Not so sure about cell death, but (I stole this info from another website) Green Tea helps you burn fat faster because…
Green Tea increases your metabolism making you burn more fat and it's a mild appetite suppressant that makes you eat less so weight loss becomes a natural process with green tea.
Green Tea is a diuretic that removes excess water weight from your body that makes you look bloated.
Dr. Nicholas Perricone told Oprah Winfrey she could lose 10 lbs. in 4-to-6 weeks drinking green tea instead of coffee.
The catechins in Green Tea forces your body into thermogenesis - this is where your body burns fat for energy.
Green Tea causes carbohydrates to be released slowly, preventing rises in blood-insulin levels and this causes your body to burn fat.
Green Tea prevents you from gaining weight by stopping the movement of sugar into your fat cells. Evidence shows that drinking green tea is related to reductions in body fat.
In a test where 10 men were given Green Tea, caffeine, or a placebo with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The men who took green tea burned more fat than the placebo and caffeine groups.
Research shows you can burn 35-to-43% more fat during the day when you drink 3-to-5 cups of Green Tea.
The International Journal of Obesity states that Green Tea contains polyphenols which causes your body to produce heat that burns off your body fat.
The University of Chicago's Tang Center for Herbal Medical Research shows Green Tea reduces the fat deposits under your skin and the fat in your belly area.
Studies show that when you drink Green Tea every day for 3 months you'll lose more body fat than those who drink regular tea.
Lots of Green Tea weight loss studies prove green tea lowers blood sugar. A lower blood sugar reduces your cravings making you not eat as much so you won't gain any weight.
Several studies on obesity have concluded that people who've been drinking Green Tea for more than 10 years showed lower body fat percentages compared with those who don't drink green tea regularly. That's a proven fact!
