View Full Version : What did you wrench on today?
1977 Suzuki GS750. This was the first year for these bikes, a culmination of two years of Suzuki engineering in a successful attempt to knock Honda from the 750 throne it had held since 1971 with the CB750.
I bought her from an old man who could no longer hold her up and she has been treated quite well her entire life.
A rotting air box caused a carb situation and after the third tear-down and cleaning, we realized what the cause was. I promised her I would fit her with sexy individual air filters and I finally did. I had to re-jet her mains, reset the idle circuit, move the midrange clips down a notch and then put the carbs back together for the re-install. Along the way we removed the seat strap (for comfort reasons), installed a new side cover emblem on her left side (for aesthetic reasons), and cleaned most of the 34 years of accumulated gunk off her.
I wish I had pics but they will have to wait.

hurt my back last week so was a bit lazy, but today i finally got round to fixing the globe in one of my bullbar parker lights. on the other side the globes are totally rusted in place, so i started to pull apart a similar assembly for parts, took it out and it turned out to be a simple rusty connection. the other side will be the challenge...

Nothing yesterday, but getting ready to swap the steering rack on my 95 Grand Am and put it up for sale. Might replace the brake lines and ABS controller in my wife's V70 if day light permits. She wants me to go pick up a dresser for my daughter though. We'll see how much I actually get done.

Didn't do ANYTHING on cars today. I did.. well... go grocey shopping and fix computers...
I really need to get out of this townhouse and cet soemthng with a decent sized garage. I'd be all over a couple dirt bikes and 4 wheelers to figure out how to hurt myself with. Small motors intrigue me and I want to REALLY figure out 2 stroke motors.
I replaced the 167k rear struts on the wife's 2000 convertible firebird. I hate that car. That car hates me. The struts were pretty straightforward after we figured out that the Haynes manual was useless for a convertible.
We sliced some carpet up and pulled out 2 huge chunks of foam to expose the strut towers in a tiny assed cutout hole beneath the seatbelt towers. About 12 inches away from where the manual placed them and hidden well.
We got 'er done with a minimum of complaints and are proud to see my wife driving her now (notice I did NOT say ME driving her).

Ho much of a difference were the struts for her car? My wife's V70 was a night and day difference. I replaced the sway bar end links and 95% of the clunking is gone from the front end. I've got to hunt down a couple more dull clunks.

Night and day difference. It is insane how much influence a bad strut has on that old car.
Today I did the front and rear brakes on my lady love - a 2800 clam taurus from 2000 with every available option. I love that car and she loves me - she makes working on her easy by not being a pita.
Yesterday it was new pads on the rear of my old suzuki gs750. It was designed right - remove an inspection cover, pry the caliper open a bit, remove two pins, slide in new pads, replace the two springs as you slide the pins back into place.
I am in love...

My yota's giving me hell. It wouldn't start. Couldn't get it to even stay running with a roll start. I swapped out the battery (thought it lot a cell and didn't even have enough juice to fire the injectors or coil) and the same thing. I'm gonna have it towed back to the house tomorrow and see I can figure out what's up.

not sure if I'd call it wrenching, but the dealer installed pioneer super tuner III am/fm cass is driving me nuts, hit a bump front speakers work, another bump, rear comes on, bump, both go off, turn off then on and only back is working. Tried wires to speaker, maybe grounds next, theres no static.
