Hello all,

I was wondering what a good competition weight would be for me because i've never competed before and don't know how much people generally cut with my stats. I'm 5'9 199lbs about 11.5-13% bf and the rest of my measurements are listed in my bodyspace. Also, is a 12 week cut the standard in preparing for a contest? Could i be ready beforehand or not really? Thanks!

A lot of natty BB-ers diet down for 16-20 weeks. As far as contest weight, just cut down and get as ripped as possible. When you aim for a weight, you'll probably under shoot and not come in as lean as you need to be.

Example: I thought I'd compete around 200 lbs at my first show. I came in at about 190+ and STILL wasn't lean enough.

Thanks!Stage ready is generally less than 5% (.....3+/- is about what the top guys reach). Do the math from your current stats to get a target weight and plan on 1lb. per week for slow, steady fat loss and that will give you a time line......I would doubt 12 weeks will be long enough. I would figure on 16 and as long as 20.

While this is a GROSS GENERALIZATION, I've noticed that at 5'9, you'd probably end up in the middle weights or light heavies, provided of course that you have enough meat to fill out your frame. I've seen taller competitors in the lighter weight classes, but most often their limbs appear a bit lanky due to the other competitors. I'm 5'8, and I BARELY make it under the middleweight upper limit (I compete at 175 lbs, 176 is the cut off!)

Of course everyone is different, and bone structure can play a huge role, but I do understand your interest, before I stepped onstage, I was looking at pros who were my height and trying to figure things out as well :)
