Anyway, let's see what rep ranges y'all like to train with. Not what is most effective for what goal, but just what is overall most enjoyable. I have a thing for triples. Mmm, 3.

What I LIKE is to start a set with about 8 then work the weight up to a 3-5 range then finish off with a set of 8 a weight somewhere between my first set and my heaviest set through about 5 total sets per exercise. i like to do at least 2-3 of the 5 at 3-5 rep range.

But currently doing something more prescribed, although today I kinda did my own thing and liked it....

Edit: cant type, but that shouldnt surprise anyone..

Use more weight. I didn't do more than 3 reps on my last squat day and my DOMS sure as hell makes me feel like I worked hard enough.

I generally push four sets on most exercises. Reps are 10-8-6-4 (obviously gradually increasing weight). Usually push last set to failure.

Yep, I agree, which is why I just put what is most enjoyable...all have their place for sure depending on the lift.

Singles and up to 30, depends on current phase of training, but even when I am working on building power I still do an odd set of 20-30 reps. My current routine I am going as low as 6 on the bench, but doing sets of 20 on my squats. Actually all my leg work is 20-30 reps atm, went from sets of 15 for upper body, then 12, 10, and now 6 over the last 8 weeks.

I think training primarily in a narrow rep range year round is detrimental to gaining size.

Usually rock 8 sets of 5 reps on all my accessory compounds movements (dips/Incline/barbell curl, CGBP, OHP etc.). I get bored with doing reps, rather keep jacking up the weight. Big 3 i keep in the 2-3 rep range and once again just do lots of sets. I find it much more taxing doing 4 sets of 2 vesus 1 set of 8. Having to reset every two reps adds a whole new level.

Would you say that for someone who is a beginner/intermediate that lifting for stregnth will still see gains until they hit a more intermediate/advanced stage?

No, I think a novice can stay in one rep range their first year and work on progressive overload in a linear fasion... but then again someone who trains consistently regardless of what method they use (3 reps, 15 reps whatever) as long as they do a lot of compound movements (and do each one more than once a week) and work out regularly will gain the most insane gains of their life in both size and strength in their first year. So who cares really for the novice? I gained 25 lbs, lost fat and put 200 lbs on my bench and 300 lbs on my squat in my first year training like a complete moron without any idea what I was doing. I just did bench, squats, curls and a few random lifts to exhaustion every day, without any plan other than I wanted to squat and bench heavy.

I find achieving goals enjoyable... and I try to enjoy every set even if it is a lift I do not like or a rep range I find uncomfortable. I can't say that I have a favorite rep range, each brings its own type of enjoyment be it a burn or pump, or the satisfaction of moving a heavy weight.

For me, nothing matches the visceral satisfaction of hitting a PR on your 1RM. I actually hate doing more than 8 reps on anything.

I meant the rep range I enjoy changes depending on exercise and muscle group.

Compound full body lifts, I generally enjoy 1-6 reps and heavy. When it gets to 10+ reps for compound lifts, I get miserable.

Smaller muscle groups I enjoy a larger rep range only to achieve a better pump. Feels good when your muscles have that tight "I'm gonna bust through your skin" feeling.

Sooo... different per exercise.

Typically 10-12 for a warm up set or two, and then 6-8 for working sets. Once Oct rolls around I will probably start hitting 3 reps more often since I will be eating at maintenance and trying to recover a touch of lean mass Ive lost on the giganto-cut.

Ive seen this mentioned before regarding legs in general but dont understand why. My best guess is it has something to do with adaption since our legs are such a highly used muscle. Whats your rational?
