This one has peaked my interest...Very classy and up market 'steakhouse'. The best place for steak I've ever been too and the service staff are fantastic. Awesome cocktails as well ;)

American - Square 1 Burger
Sushi - VizenYou ever gone to Yodder's Amish restaurant thre in Sarasota? I went there when I was on vac this past summer, food was great.

Anyway for mine I would have to say:

Mexican: Papa Joe's, local joint, authentic Mexican
Sushi: J and Y Seafood Co., They are awesome
American: Matthew's 1600, Another local place, actually run by the family of one of my co-workers
Deli: Chick and Ruth's Deli, yeah the one on Man v food with the 6 lb milkshake, food there is great.

I dislike going to chain restaurants so I'm always looking for great local eateries, We should start our own thread of bomb places to go for when people travel. Then again I suppose that is what this is.

This one is easy for me http://kirchhoffsbakery.com/
It's a deli and bakery combo. Great fresh breads and cheeses. Not to mention the monstrous sandwiches they serve in the deli, and you can't beat their sweets!

el adobe is boss, square 1's ostrich burger (beep beep) farking rocks, and vizen is one of the great gems in all of southwest florida. Went to Vizen for my birthday, and was astonished by the quality and presntation. Never been to Valentino's.

my favorites: (lengthy)

Mi Pueblo (Mexican)
Melting Pot (Fondue)
Vizen (sushi, sashimi)
Ceviche (Tapas)
Pacific Rim (jack of all asian trades, bento box ftw)
Bern's Steakhouse (one of the best steakhouses in the country, largest private wine cellar in the world. grow their own food on their farm as well. phenom food, and incredible experience. finish off by going upstairs to the cigar room and have a davidoff or a cuesta ray with a scotch)

btw, erick, have you tried that Pho restaraunt on main?

Yoder's is the most overrated place in this town. However, their shop at Sarasota Square Mall is amazing.

Mi Pueblo (Mexican) Eh, I'd go to El Adobe or Tijuana Flats before here.
Melting Pot (Fondue) Fuk yes, went for the GF's birthday.
Vizen (sushi, sashimi) Did the chef's tasting for my b-day. Highly recommended.
Ceviche (Tapas) On my list of places to try.
Pacific Rim (jack of all asian trades, bento box ftw) Ranks below J-Pan, Yume, Vizen, and Drunkey Poet - But still good.
Bern's Steakhouse (one of the best steakhouses in the country, largest private wine cellar in the world. grow their own food on their farm as well. phenom food, and incredible experience. finish off by going upstairs to the cigar room and have a davidoff or a cuesta ray with a scotch) Nice "experience" but highly overrated.

Not yet, whenever I go downtown I always end up at Drunken Poet. Eventually I'll hit it up.

Mi Pueblo is right next to my home (near university), so I go there often. Pacific Rim is a guilty pleasure, my father had a shop less than 30 yards from there and I went there often throughout my childhood. You need to give ceviche a try though, crazy selection, and a bar on the roof to finish off.

another place you need to try: the Beach Bistro on Holmes Beach.

La Petite Abeille (Tribeca) - Belgian
Zutto (Tribeca) - sushi
Sahara (Coney Island) - Turkish
Cercle Rouge (Tribeca) - French
Chevy's (Times Square) - Mexican, mostly because of their margaritas selection
Olive Tree (Village)

As I was typing this realized that I almost never go out now in NYC.
