Here in So Cal, they are talking about having another grocery store strike of the big chain grocers because of failing Union negotiations. Workers are outraged at having to pay a couple dollars a week for healthcare like most people have to.
I remember the last time they went on strike in 2004ish or so, it was a nightmare as they purposefully do it around Thanksgiving time to jack everyone. I couldn't find sweet potatoes or 1/2 and 1/2 I desperately needed for my thanksgiving meal I was preparing for about 12 people. Luckily Starbucks hooked me up with free 1/2&1/2 and saved the day.
Now they are threatening to strike starting today, and I don't even care. Grocery store is closed....so I will go to Henrys Farmers Market, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Fresh and Easy, etc. Or heck, I'll walk to the Target 1/4th a mile from my house, or drive to Walmart. Or just stock up at Costco. Come to think of it, I rarely even go to a "Grocery" store anymore like in the old days.....

Family friends told me it started yesterday. I went in to 3 different stores as usual. Still LOLing at the whole situation.
BRB Costco no striking so I'm fine.

Those striking workers are stupid IMO. In today's climate where there are load of people out of work, there is nothing to stop the grocery stores from hiring strikebreakers and simply not firing the strikebreakers when the strike ends. Then these striking workers will have effectively fired themselves over this small amount of money.

My thoughts EXACTLY. But, the chains that are having strikes are deciding to just close the doors and hire people to move foods that will spoil out. Article in the paper on Sat said they were taking applications. I imagine they were getting bombarded with apps.

That being said, did all my grocery shopping on Sat because Ralphs is a big one on our list. Bought some pretty good raspberries for 0.99 and pissed I didnt buy more! I did notice on Sat that there seemed to be a lot of stuff low on stock like fruits and veggies, but I was at a diff store than my usual, so I am not certain they were holding off on restocking.
