"These things we do... that others may live"- Helping people> your own desire, personal comfort. whether it be saving someone's life/donating money to church/ volunteering your own time to help others in need.

What do you live by?

"The categories of optimism and pessimism don't exist for me. I'm a blues man. A blues man is a prisoner of hope, and hope is a qualitatively different category than optimism. Optimism is a secular construct, a calculation of probability. Hope wrestles with despair, but it doesn't generate optimism. It just generates this energy to be courageous, to bear witness, to see what the end is going to be. No guarantee, unfinished, open-ended. I'm a prisoner of hope. I'm going to die full of hope."

*looks* oh. this quote?:

“Love is blind, they say; sex is impervious to reason and mocks the power of all philosophers. But, in fact, a person's sexual choice is the result and sum of their fundamental convictions. Tell me what a person finds sexually attractive and I will tell you their entire philosophy of life. Show me the person they sleep with and I will tell you their valuation of themselves. No matter what corruption they're taught about the virtue of selflessness, sex is the most profoundly selfish of all acts, an act which they cannot perform for any motive but their own enjoyment - just try to think of performing it in a spirit of selfless charity! - an act which is not possible in self-abasement, only in self-exultation, only on the confidence of being desired and being worthy of desire. It is an act that forces them to stand naked in spirit, as well as in body, and accept their real ego as their standard of value. They will always be attracted to the person who reflects their deepest vision of themselves, the person whose surrender permits them to experience - or to fake - a sense of self-esteem .. Love is our response to our highest values - and can be nothing else.”

sounds about right to me. 100% straight up truth. bang on.

Something els I've come to live by, this isn't a quote but just something I've picked up from my few years of experience.

Be self sufficient, rely on NOONE. No matter how close you might be to someone or how high of morals a person may have never rely on someones word. Most of the time a person will protect their own interests if it means going breaking a promise.

Surprisingly this works. Convincing yourself otherwise I mean.

I remember going for a max deadlift once and kept telling myself there was only 220lbs on the bar, when there was probably about 150lbs more on it. Felt like 220lbs still lol
