There appears to be a massive migration of those with more than half a brain into the NMisc. Since I agree with the concern that the main forum could degenerate into one big bro-down with much less of the smart folks lurking or active in it, this thread is my off-the-cuff solution.
Here's the idea: if you happen to spot any threads in the main forum that are being dominated by stupidity, or if you see any blatantly bad advice being dished out, please link the threads (or posts) here.
This will give the more educated members the option to hop over there & chime in - when they otherwise would have been oblivious to the carnage as they lounged over here in Club NMisc.

I've covered mine in other threads... and most of the regular posters on the keto forum do count their calories and repeatedly tell others "If you do not eat a caloric deficit you will not lose fat on a ketogenic diet". I assumed most people use them to avoid shanks (from low blood sugar), headaches, continual sweating if you don't eat more carbs every 2-3 hours, black spots in front of the eyes and other negative drawbacks some of us suffer when trying to cut on higher carbs. Plus we get to eat steak and chicken wings all day long.
For me it blunts my hunger, I keep 100% of my strength in the gym etc, and avoid suffering from hypoglycemia when I reduce my calories to a 500 cal deficit... that is pretty magical. :D
For those who benefit from these things a keto diet does seem pretty magical, but most people I know do not have these same results, and if they do not, doing keto would be rather pointless unless they just happened to enjoy it and feel better on it... and I've met a handful of people who cannot tolerate this type of diet at all, their lifts drop for weeks, they feel slow, lethargic etc... and clearly such people should avoid keto diets like the plague.
Anyway I don't see where you got the things you typed by reading the keto forum here... everyone there talks about the importance of calories in calories out on keto.

However, in my experience - generally speaking & not specifically referring to the BB.com ketard forum - most ketards believe that ketosis is a "special" fat-burning state. Thus, they panic when a small serving of carbs kicks them out of ketosis, lmfao. This is why most people have the impression that ketards don't subscribe to kcals in/out.

Oh lawd... yeah.. the running joke on the keto forums here is that if you get kicked out of ketosis while cutting...you get hungry. A lot of the people here use it for the hunger blunting effects, etc. I've certainly never noticed the "metabolic advantage" some speak of in theory... no caloric deficit... no drop in weight for me. All the keto stickies even here discuss calorie counting.

I see nothing wrong with paleo diets, as there certainly nothing unhealthy, or unproductive towards bodybuilding about eating meat, veggies, nuts and fruit, and they have some interesting theories. I also think consuming copious quantities of grass-fed beef is an excellent way to boost gains in size and strength, although a bit expensive. Methinks the IIFYM crew is a bit more critical of lifestyle choices of others than they need to be, unless that person is being an ass about it, "My way is the ONLY way and you are a moron if you don't do paleo/keto/other." And there is a psychological benefit to believing that a specific method will work... and people forget how psychological the iron game actually is. Placebo, self-programming and belief play a very strong role in the results one gets from their training.
I think they (paleo peeps) can be a bit silly with their holier than thou attitude, although not as bad as vegans.... this thread however.... 1500 calorie deficit... I predict the concentration camp look in this one's future update pictures. His hardcore diet is quite frankly... going to cost him a lot of muscle mass.

I'll play Devil's advocate on this one... if they are getting all of the essential amino acids they need, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals they need to reach their physique goals, and maintain health, and are not eating excessive calories (same goals the IIFYM group has), how is that unhealthy? We could argue that if they are getting overly stressed about it "OMG there might be traces of gluten on that!!", the stress itself of this might of course be detrimental to their physical and mental health, as we know stress is a killer. However the other end of the physcological aspect is belief/placebo. If they believe their method of eating will yield better, health and more importantly more energy and performance in the gym... allowing for quickier progressive overload, better workouts and a better mental attitude towards their training... wouldn't that be of potential benefit? Now you could also argue the mental well being of getting to toss in some ice cream a few times a week and fitting it into your macros as having a psychological benefit as well, as I doubt you honestly believe the 300 calories of ice cream will actually yield more muscle gain or strength than the same macros and calories from steak and strawberries. Belief is a very powerful thing, and the iron game has a massive psychological aspect that will make or break you when it comes to results.

Such rigid guidelines can lead to unnecessary mental stress, inhibited social life, and eating disorders. Do they always? No, but I think having such a stringent dietary regiment certainly lends itself to this. I'm not arguing against the foods as they all are generally micronutrient dense and damn tasty, but to see them as the only things you eat can lead to issues.

Most people here don't have a problem with the Paleo diet per se. Our issue is with their reasoning behind it. Some people have health issues that makes the Paleo diet fit their lifestyle and that is fine. Even then, I don't think there is any reason to go full Paleo since it is based on faulty logic and strong assumptions. I think it is better to just cut the things out of your diet that your allergic to and keep the rest. If it happens to be similar to Paleo then that is perfectly fine. You can still have a healthy diet doing so.

I'd never heard of the Warrior Diet until here, but magazines still love the "no carbs after Xpm" that I see on shelves and random "diet tips" on magazines/websites. "Top 10 healthy foods", "Foods that will kill your diet", "Best foods for fat loss." I used to read tons of garbage like that on livestrong.com and other sites so I'm sure people still get there info from places like that and magazines. I'd never really heard about IF either, and thought people who skipped breakfast and ate larger meals later were setting themselves up for being fat. :p
I've got my head on right finally :D

I remember the Warrior Diet making its rounds through magazines and the bodybuilding community back in 2003 or 2004ish... peeps started talking about barley > brown rice (so they could be like the Roman Legionaires), limiting carbs/calories in the morning and eating most of their carbs at night. It was quite a rage among some circles of bros.

Someone smart like you (Emma) or AA needs to discuss their views with them, since they have the ability to potentially (mis)inform a lot of people.
Or we can all just hang out here and pretend the outside world doesn't exist :)

Yes. When some kid tells you he can't gain weight when lifting, tell him pour half a bottle of olive oil onto a large Pizza Hut pizza every night and after the oil soaks in, eat the entire thing for dinner, every night.
For someone having difficulty gaining weight because they are too much of a pussy to eat a couple dozen eggs a day, pouring some bacon grease onto everything they eat can help also.

15 mins of morning cardio on an empty stomach is more beneficial than 1 hour of cardio in the evening after dinner. I know which 1 I prefer!
morning cardio burns stored fat & sugar whereas evening cardio only burns calories from that day. 2 get lean, attack the stored fat.

Nah - he's saying the old energy balance thing, calories in vs calories out make no difference to your wieight/fat levels. He points out through photographic examples and science that within populations that eat the same calories and some do exercise and some don't, that some people will be obese while others not.
eat the same calories
some do exercise, some do not
some lose weight, some do not
same calories
some exercise
same calories
same calories
what the fuk is with this guy?
hes saying that calories in vs calories out doesnt determine weight gain, yet hes saying those who did exercise while eating the same calories as others lost weight.
so they used more calories. so they lost weight. so it was cals in cals out.

You mean shave? You know you're on a BB'ing site, right?
Yeah, I just can't tell who does and who doesn't. If I could afford it, I'd get it lasered once I become my old self. I don't think I can handle wax, so trimming will do. Too pussy to shave it all off, too much itchiness.

I shave my chest/stomach, but don't touch the legs. I would shave them if I was going to take pictures, but I don't like the idea of shaved legs so I leave 'em be. TBH, I don't have any itching and if you keep it relatively clean then it doesn't take long or cause any irritation.

I looked at your pics, I can't tell you do but it has to itch at first, right? Up until today I thought you were in your 30s, you looks older in your avi. I'll trim until I can man up and get what needs to be waxed and wax it, and in the future if I can afford it all, laser. I've never met a woman my age or older who finds excessive body hair sexy. Unless they have a fetish about having sex with a steel wool.

i don't think the "don't eat the cafeteria food" part is all that terrible
some things you can't avoid in life but if you are restricting calories there is sometimes not that much margin for error
its like eating out
yeah you might order salmon and some rice but you don't know how butter or oil that meal is cooked in and its a massive difference in calories, enough to throw off a deficit, especially if you are eating ALL your meals in that kind of uncontrolled environment
i didnt read the rest though
I hate it when people make posts like that, it reads like a ****ing poem. Someone posted in haiku format last week.

The big issue is they rep trade so much that some of them can neg the **** out of you when you debate them. I see one wander into the wp and exercise forums, where I have historically posted the most. They'll have 30k rep power and ask things like "So do I need to do low, medium or high reps to get ripped when cutting?".. with sigs saying "Misc POF Crew, Strong Ass Jew Crew, Jersey Crew"...

Don't you know that protein makes you fat? That even a bodybuilder only needs 5% of his calories from protein and the body processes fruit calories more effeceintly so you never need to count them becuase they are not stored as fat. Take her videos and quotes change the word vegan(diet) to keto(diet), the word protein to carbs, the fruit sugar to fat, fruit to red meat, meat/fat/eggs/milk to carbs... and she sounds like the worst ketotards, the ones that embaress people such as me who actually do keto diets and count calories on them.

Not even going to post in that thread... I've been around enough IFBB guys and their gurus to know that pre-contest gurus ultimately just cut their calories and put most of the focus on drugs and water balance. It isn't that difficult to shed 20 lbs of fat off a guy who is 300 lbs, shooting a gram of tren a day, thryroid hormones and high doses of hgh... pre-contest gurus should probably be called "water balance gurus". Given the rules on this forum it is difficult to go into details regarding how many drugs and what types some of these guys are taking when compared to the local gym rat or high school football player people think of when they thing about sterons.
As a mod, I monitor all sections to make sure everything is squeaky-clean and PG-13.

@ Phisig, are you actually considering this and if so, why? Not attacking, but generally curious.
I just don't understand why people feel the necessity to label foods. Even labeling them paleo/non-paleo seems somewhat ridiculous to me. I just eat food. Food I enjoy. My diet today consisted of brown rice, broccoli, natty PB, eggs, strawberries, blueberries, and some protein powder. Most would consider that 'clean' or 'bro', but I consider it food. It seems to me that perpetuating any sort of difference between the foods seems nonsensical when common sense and moderation is applied.

Which is why for some people it is a superior method and they swear by it that they somehow lose less weight (even those who do not track their calories and just "eat as much as they want") becuase quite simply reduced appetite (my observation is that keto doesn't do this for every person however) equals less calories in... which is potentially more fat lost. I personally become very skeptical of those who discuss the metabolic advantage due to ketones containing calories and you are expelling ketones thus unburned calories (which would not violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics any more than pulling one sparkplug wire on your car engine would be when it expels more unburned fuel out of the exhaust) as I've not seen any research yet confirm this advantage.... and given that it doesn't appear in the research data... perhaps the caloric waste might exist but it isn't high enough to offset the slightly lower thermic effect of a very high fat diet when compared to a higher carb diet... so the tiny "metabolic advantage" might exist but be completley offset by another variable. I've certainly never noticed it in myself when I keto... but the appetite reduction, improved blood sugar and energy levels are very noticable. I would love to see some research that pins down specifically what gives some individuals these benefits and not others.

Same here being on them low carbs means that I am never low on energy surprisingly, my workouts feel better due to the increased energy, and it phucken helps control my appetite which for me is a miracle, being someone who can eat an extra large pizza and a two liter soda and still be hungry. SRS

I hear you on that... in fact when I was 18 and used to work on the road for my company, I ordered a large pan pizza and a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper every night after work to my hotel room... after eating fried chicken or steak and fries or burgers for lunch... as my company paid for all our food. I never felt like I was stuffing myself I was just hungery and made poor food choices on top of it. Needless to say I had hit a fat 270 by 19.
Keto is all about appetite control... in fact running into an issue iwth it now... it it 5 pm and I have only hit 1200-1300 calories for the day and am not sure what I want to eat... but I need another 1500 calories to hit my macros.

Is it just me, or does Scooby's post actually make sense. No dedicated spreading of broscience, just an opinion that a few more meals a day might be beneficial. Which is a fairly honest opinion, not without some scientific backing. Especially as he explained in not believing the fat loss benefits or metabolic increase.
If he'd argue that we NEED to eat several meals a day, I'd be all over him. But him suggesting it as maybe being optimal - that I'm cool with. I mean after Lyle theorized about multiple meals being optimal some time ago, I'm definitely keeping an open mind about it and waiting more research to appear.
Also saying that one needs to read a lot, study evidence and make one's own conclusions is also a very good point. Being a pubmed ninja without actually reading the studies in detail and ripping them apart does not make one smart. Often the conclusions scientists make on their studies are questionable. The study itself might be great, but sometimes it takes someone with a good understanding of the whole picture to put the pieces together so it makes sense.
