You get 3 wishes....typical rules apply...no making any Nutrition girls fall in love with you, can't wish the dead to come back to life (cuz they're dead), and you can't wish for more wishes. Or Shaq will go all Kazaam and shaq-fu your ass.

And reps for life for anyone who puts Alan's face in the place of the genie from aladdin.

Damn I just cant seem to narrow it down to three wishes.

We have to end apartheid for one. And slow down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.

If everyone did that last bolded portion, then everything else you mentioned would pretty much fall into place.

Everyone should just go read Pete Singer's Famine, Affluence, and Morality. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famine,_Affluence,_and_Morality - the child drowning analogy is pretty much indisputable, as far as I'm concerned, and is entirely applicable to everyone.

One of the core arguments of this essay is that, if one can use one's wealth to reduce suffering — for example, by aiding famine-relief efforts — without any significant reduction in the well-being of oneself or others, it is immoral not to do so. According to Singer, such inaction is clearly immoral if a child is drowning in a shallow pond and someone can save it but chooses not to;[6] nor does placing greater geographical distance between the person in need and the potential helper reduce the latter's moral obligations:
It makes no difference whether the person I can help is a neighbor's child ten yards away from me or a Bengali whose name I shall never know, ten thousand miles away. [...] The moral point of view requires us to look beyond the interests of our own society. Previously [...], this may hardly have been feasible, but it is quite feasible now. From the moral point of view, the prevention of the starvation of millions of people outside our society must be considered at least as pressing as the upholding of property norms within our society.[7]
The affluent, says Singer, are consistently guilty of failing to recognise this, having large amounts of surplus wealth that they do not use to aid humanitarian projects in developing nations.
Here is the thrust of Singer's argument:
"Suffering and death from lack of food, shelter and medical care are bad".[8]
"If it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance, then we ought, morally, to do it".[9]
"It makes no moral difference whether the person I can help is a neighbour's child ten yards from me or a Bengali whose name I shall never know, ten thousand miles away".[10]
"The principle makes no distinction between cases in which I am the only person who could possibly do anything and cases in which I am just one among millions in the same position".[11]

1.) women to not be such perfectionists. it is hard to make friends, because a lot of women around here (regardless of ethnicity) think other women are out to get them/they're jealous. everyone has something that others envy. no one is completely happy w/ their body. but i mean, ****. everyone has good qualities. it's such bull****. because i sit @ home a lot by myself 'cause women don't want to be my friend. no phaggy time. just sayin'. i went out to dinner w/ a group of girls from 1 of the gyms i teach aerobics classes @. it was fukin' intense. i even contributed to the conversation, which was about shti i don't even care about (jewelery, etc). BUT i still made the effort/enthusiasm. ugh. never heard from 'em again. they were chubby. but nice boobs. wish i had them. BUT...i like my legs. it evens out. fuk sakes. :S who cares! be my friiiiiiiiiiiend. =/

2.) less disappointment w/ men. they either want me to be less open-minded (it intimidates them) or want me to be more like a typical bimbo/door mat. or etc etc etc. bleh.

3.) higher bmr. lol. would love to be able to maintain on more energy/not modify things to fit my macros. not complainin', 'cause i make some delicious substitutions. but i enjoy being light on my feet, even if i have to kinda go through the "hassle" of changing around recipes, etc.

It's undeniable logic, and it will make you think twice about how you spend your money and how much you allocate towards issues that need it (at least, it SHOULD make you think twice :D).

1) Suffering is bad.
2) If we can prevent suffering without bringing undo harm or trouble to ourselves, we ought to do it.

Simple. If a child is drowning, and we are capable of saving them, we should do it. To NOT do it would be immoral; it would be wrong. Even if it means we will ruin our favorite pair of pants. Applying this to an everyday scenario: we are capable of saving people, children. Maybe not from drowning, but from certain death. So why aren't we doing it? We have a moral obligation.

it is very rare for people in our age demographic to be consciously aware of these issues. like i was saying above, the chicks i hung out w/ the other night are completely un self-aware of themselves, anything outside of vancouver, & anything that's non-materialistic/is theoretical. i like going clubbing, too. but gat dang. have some substance. i don't want to talk about irrelevant **** the whole entire ight. gotta have something else to converse about besides how my brother's gf is a "fukin bitch". *rolls eyes*

Sadly, that's the case with many people. I would never suggest someone let these issues take over their life to the part where they don't lead a "normal" life, but it'd be nice if people were at least aware and cared about such issues.

Suffering in and of itself is bad and we must strive to stop it. But that will never happen - just keep that in mind.

Now there is a complex good in suffereing not to mention the value of growing and developing personally via suffering. The complex good that suffering provides are the feelings of pity and the acts of mercy and charity that arise from those feelings.

I agree. You're talking to someone who is in the process of adopting Buddhism. Suffering is a key part of life necessary for growth.

The suffering I am referring to regarding the other statement(s) is the life-threatening kind. Children starving every day, people without clean water, people who don't have access to medicine. All of us have the capability to alleviate this form of suffering by donating time/money. It would be immoral not to aid in some way. That is the premise of Singer's argument. To pretend it is not our responsibility and to pretend we can't help in any way is fallacious.

I remember reading that in philosophy. Unfortunately, I'm in massive debt (student loans), so I can't help anyone until I can help myself. But this issue of suffering reminds me of Benatar's Better Never to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence. Pretty logical and convincing argument but I'm going to have kids anyways. Right. The concept would never demand someone contribute when they are in no position to contribute. If contributing means your quality of life suffers, then don't. Work until you get yourself in a position to help, and then do so.

Yeah f that, I plan on having kids, too!
