View Full Version : Pick someone from this list to replay Ryan Grant on my team (long list)

Overall I am pleased with my draft. However, these are the reserves who I am concerned about:
RB Ryan Grant GB (I played him last night as my flex, would like to replace)
RB Michael Bush OAK
WR Lance Moore NO
WR Sidney Rice SEA
TE Tony Gonzalez ATL
I have attached a (long) list of available RB-WR-TE. I don't have a way of checking their projections unless I actually add them to my team (by dropping someone else).
Give me some suggestions. I don't have to replace all 4 of the above unless there are better players in there position from the list.
Reps for worthwhile suggestions.

First a few important questions. How many people are in the league? Is it PPR or non-PPR? How many can you start at each position? And can you go ahead and post your roster?

Lance Moore's value just went up because Colston broke his collar bone and is out 4-6 weeks.
That's a long ass list, couple names that stood out to me were Delone Carter, CJ Spiller, and Ben Tate. None really upgrades over Grant though. Tate could have some value this week and by end of year I think Carter will have the highest value. Colts are gonna have to run and Addai typically gets banged up

Absolutely keep Lance Moore, many like him as a sleeper this year plus with Colston out his value skyrockets. He'll probably be your flex option week to week given your lineup. You definitely need to keep Bush on your roster, McFadden will probably miss a few games (he always does).
There really aren't that many options out there and I don't see much you can improve on. There are some WR's available but mostly for PPR which is why they're on the waiver wire in your league lol. I do notice a ton of available handcuffs (Delonte Carter, Kendall Hunter, Jason Snelling, and Deji Karim). Addai and Gore are injury prone and MJD could go down (but I dont like his backup now that Jennings is out and Jacksonville is going to suck this year anyway). I would drop Gonzales and pick up Carter. I think you're set at TE even with Manning gone and you can just pick someone up on the WW during Indy's bye week. If you're dead set on keeping a TE then I like Pettigrew over Gonzales as a backup but that's just me.
Any reason you have Titus Young on your roster and not Burleson? I love Burleson this year (as do many - assuming Stafford stays health). With most of the focus being on CJ I think Burleson gets a long of catches and TD's plus he's looked really good in the preseason. I would definitely pick him up unless you have some sort of homer/gut feeling about TY. Keep an eye on CJ Spiller, he's got a ton of potential. Otherwise I think you're set.

I just found that I can create a "Scout Team" where I can see their stats/projections without having to add them to my roster.
Delone Carter: 33% own, 0% start
Ben Tate: 72% Own, 2% start
What concerns me is the "start" percentage. This is system-wide (cbssports.com) I presume -- and there isn't much confidence in starting either of those two (this week at least).
For my Active roster all are 98-100% owned, and mosly 90+ % starting (Grant was 45%).
lol, someone has Lance Moore set to Active because he comes up as 1% to start, even though he is inactive for week 1.

I replaced Titus Young with Burleson. I added CJ Spiller to my scout team so I can keep an eye on him.
For my WR I am still going to start
Mike Williams @ DET
Hakeem Nicks @ WAS
The scoring in my league for WR is
1 pt per 10 yards receiving
6 pts per receiving TD

What site are you using where you have to go to so much trouble to view the projections? You aren't able to just look in the FA pool and see the projections there?

Right, and that's how it should be for now. IMO, your bench should be filled with guys who you can automatically start and expect some points from (Grant, Moore, etc) during the bye weeks of your main players. But you also need a few guys with a ton of potential who are in favorable circumstances to get some playing time. In this example, Addai is very injury prone so if (when) he goes down, you have someone who has shown a lot of promise in training camp that you can immediately insert into your roster or use as trade bait.

cbssports.com. This is my wife's league (work) and I am helping her out. (read: doing all the heavy lifting). I have never been involved with fantasy leagues before so I am learning.
There is an Add/Drop option. It brings up a drop down list of all available players (I can filter by WR, RB, etc) and list of my players. I select a player to add and a player from my list to drop. It just has their name, team, position. In fact I scraped it to build the list I attached. It does not provide stats/projections.
So for this league it is not so easy to just find the best available.

Grant is your best option at flex for now. This is the last starter in your lineup, so it should be the weakest. He's really not terrible as a flex play. Monitor Moore. He will probably be a better flex play eventually, but he has to get healthy first. Also watch for the backups on the waiver wire that could be potentially productive if the starter were injured (i.e. Carter, Hunter, Karim). You might even want to preemptively drop Gonzalez or Burleson and grab one if you have a strong feeling about one of those guys.

I want to make sure I understand what the Flex position means. This is how I understand it:
1) I must start 2 RB.
2) I must start 2 WR.
3) I must start 1 TE.
Then, I can start any available RB, WR, or TE for the Flex position (it is not called Flex on my system -- it is actually listed as "RB-WR-TE").
So my take on it is I can have an extra WR, or an extra RB, or an extra TE.

You got it. Usually the best thing in non-PPR is to put a RB there because then you know they'll at least be getting touches and maybe some goal line carries. In PPR it's ok (and often more beneficial) to go WR at flex. I would stay away from putting a TE there unless you have two studs (which is highly unlikely). In non-PPR if you can get 8-10 points out of your flex then you're doing pretty good (at least for 12-team leagues which is all I play in, I imagine you would expect a bit more from your flex in 10-team leagues since the quality of available players is higher).

That is correct. The "RB-WR-TE" position is often called a "Flex" spot because you can use players from more than one position.

Valuable piece of advice for a first year player: Disregard all projections. %start and %own are even more meaningless stats. The vast majority of fantasy football players have absolutely no clue what they are doing. The best way to get good fantasy football advice is to talk to knowledgable people on forums like this and follow websites with player updates and fantasy takes like rotoworld.
Edit: With that said, Grant looked slow and old when he played thursday and it likely will not be long before starks takes over in that offense. Definitely hang onto Moore and Bush. Tony Gonzales you should get rid of. All he is going to do this season is provide you with a recognizable name. That document you posted wouldn't load on my computer so I'm not really sure who is available, but look for sleeper tight ends like Jared Cook, Lance Kendricks, Gronkowski, Hernandez, or Olsen.

I'm with Krunchy, I would swap Young for Burleson. Burleson is a veteran who has performed, especially when he was the 2nd WR. I like Young's upside, but you don't have a big enough bench to store him, as rookie wideouts are typically up and down their first season.
SOme guys to watch and monitor during the season
RB: Ben Tate, Delone Carter (Addai injury), Demarco Murray, Jason Snelling/Jacquizz Rodgers (Turner injury), Deji Karim, Kendall Hunter.... and I really like Philip Tanner, but he's #4 on the Cowboys depth chart.
WR: Dexter McCluster is a guy you could consider over Grant. Charles is there, but Haley wants McCluster on the field more, and has been splitting him out wide, as well as using him in the backfield. Jabar Gaffney is in a position to rebound his career, but it will take a couple of weeks to see what the Skins can do in their passing game. I also like Arrelious Benn TB, Jacoby Ford OAK, Greg Little CLE, Jordy Nelson GB and Johnny Knox CHI.
Cliffs: I would drop Young and pick up Burleson, then McCluster would be next in line... Sunday will show how he will be used, so no rush on him.
