It doesn't matter if you are Male, Female, Homo, Hetro, Metro, Tran, Bro or a mix, Alan is appreciated by all kinds, maybe even loved and/or stalked! (pretty sure I've got a man crush on him) (no homo) (notsureifsrs) There is no disputing that HE IS the BB.COM Nutrition Section and if it was not for him there would be no Nutrition Misc Section.

We salute you!

Yo AA, any updates on the big book you and Alan have planned. I think that's what you said, and perhaps you mentioned Martin as well IIRC.We killed the idea a while ago. Basically, Lyle & I agreed that there would be too much overlap in our material (his & mine in particular), so it would end up being super-redundant for me & him to be in the same collab. I plan on having a GC update done sometime mid next year. Fingers crossed.

AA has been a great resource that has kept me close to the current review of research in sports nutrition so I have more time to focus on my business and the creative implementation of the science and less time on the research and interpretation. Seriously, thank God for the people that review the research to such a comprehensive level!

Alan, you said when you started out in the industry you did a lot of "pavement pounding" for your biz. Would you say that now your credibility/reputation take care of most your marketing concerns? Or do you still spend a lot of time marketing yourself?Your assumption is correct. I've reached a point where I literally don't do anything special to market myself at all. The main things that serve as my marketing tools are the articles I've written for the public, and I probably write a maximum of 2 of these a year - the latest one being the clean eating article for wannabebig.com. My modship here at bodybuilding.com can function as a marketing tool because it increases my visibility, especially when good debates happen, but it's really no different from what I did when I was a regular member. Hanging out at the forums here is something I enjoy as a hobby. In fact, it's one of the ways I take breaks from work.

In addition, my ongoing work for Men's Health magazine ends up functioning as a marketing tool. It's all win-win, I get paid to write the articles, and the articles do all the marketing for me. On rare occasion I'll write a guest article for another blog or do an interview for another website, and these things end up perpetuating my presence in the industry. My own personal blogging frequency is kind of a joke & can hardly be considered marketing, but some of my blog content (ie, the fructose debate stuff) gets a ton of traffic & nets me lots of residual exposure.

The cool thing is that I'm at a point where companies are waiting for articles from me, and I don't have to knock on doors to write for anyone. They end up waiting months at a time for my articles because I'm too busy with AARR & clients. I turn down prospective clients almost daily, and I've gotten good at telling people how patient they are for waiting for my articles. I'm extremely happy with where my career is at, but it's also important to realize that it was a journey that took almost 20 years of taking risks & grinding through the learning curves.

initially i was like,
who is this gun wielding interwebs hero and why is everyone on his dicck.

then I saw an article of Alan's Lyle put up and revelation did occur

(discovered in comments of said article)
"If my article is so full of holes, then they must be tiny perforations compared to the new ******* I just ripped you & your love for the propagation of bull****. As for TC rejecting my articles, I was invited by their editorial director to write for them. I got an article published (which I’m sure you read), and never even bothered to submit anything after that… So, go & ahead keep up, my ‘credibility’ is depending on dudes like you."

^Hah, those were good times. The feistiness of bros comes in waves. It seems like the forces of Brodom have weakened considerably as of late. We should always be prepared for the next volley of brain cell-killing poison arrows.

Don't worry, T-Nation will continue to mis-educate the masses. T-Nation's most recent nutrition-related article is dated 8/30/11 and is called "Eat to Get Big Without Getting Fat" by Matt Kroczaleski. http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/eat_to_get_big_without_getting_fat

Replete with typical and even a-typical broscience advice. Yolks are banned, but oddly enough, white rice is permitted... That must be limited for the post-workout air-vent to take "advantage of the powerful hormone insulin by timing carbohydrate intake for when nutrients will be preferentially forced into muscle cells and not body fat cells..." yada yada yada.

the following list of food selections will lead to the best results:

blah blah blah

Seems like the current bandwagon is tinkering with insulin.

This is where people need to sit down and realize that certain people should only be listened to for training advice. I'd take Kroc's training advice any day of the week but I'd never listen to his nutrition advice.
