Apparently, the phrase "You mad Bro?" is now racist...

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/trending-now/football-game-sign-ignites-racial-tension-police-hunt-154908308.html

As a white male (from Oklahoma) I've seen a lot and I mean A LOT of racism. People in my family are racist. I've lost friends because of racism but this may be taking it too far..

I still don't understand why the term "bro" is falsely associated with African Americans? I use the term "bro" with all my friends (some of which are African American). It's just a term...like "man", "bitch", "dog".... I agree with you, PhiSig...some folks take **** WAY too far!

Why is it that those who lack the capacity to think end up being the most vocal?

The people claiming it is racist are actually the racists as they are the ones who associate the term Bro with African Americans...how ironic.

i associate the term bro with everyone i know lol. even my mum. especially when shes ranting about something it gives me the perfect "cool story bro" opportunity.

but srs i dont even see how it could be associated with just being black. to be honest i still feel awkward calling people black, even though im sure it's preferable over being called "coloured" etc.

cant we all just get along?

Racism exists in many forms, but this is certainly not a case of it. All too often people are ready to point the finger at others and claim something is "racist" when in reality it has nothing to do with race whatsoever. People in general need to stop interpreting everything they see as a personal assault.

Though it is all part of the double edged sword that is freedom of speech, we are free to say what we want, but then anyone is allowed to object to what we say, and if they are deemed correct we are penalized. Isn't "democracy" fun.

completely unaware that "bro" could be "racist".....

I call almost everyone I know "bro".....even black people I know and they've never said anything.....

That is stupid....I hate when people play that card....idiots.

So I asked around a little and apparently bro = brother, and brothers are in fact black. The following movie print confirms this:

Well I do love mayonnaise and I dig dat movie.

Saying bro is not racist. You may get weird looks if you say brotha or sista, if you say it wrong or to the wrong stranger. People are way to sensitive IMO. Plus your going to get this backlash when some political leaders get involved whose sole purpose in life is to point this stuff out no matter what the subject or the group they are representing. If they didn't have something to cry about then they'd be out of a job. In southern Cali we usually don't sweat the small stuff. I guess I can understand though. I remember talking to one of my relatives who has since passed on and when he came to visit us he got so freaked out or rather stunned when he saw a black guy for the first time at the age of 50+, LOL (he grew up in a small town in northern Cali and had only seen American Indians and a few Hispanics). I really can't relate to racist people since I've always had such a diverse group of friends. Just the way it was since I was too young to know the difference.

Born and raised in Hawaii, impossible to be racist here, everyone is so mixed up. If anything, the "Haole" (caucasion) is the one who gets it the worst, overthrow of Hawaiian gov't. Etc.etc.

Didn't the "you mad" meme stem from a black guy?
