Bodyfat estimates are almost always underrated so I'd like to see what you guys look like before you start cutting for a show. I personally will start mini-cutting if I cant see veins and striations in upper arms and legs. ( I hold most of my fat in my abs) Post up your offseason pics and your opinions on why you are either staying lean <10 , relatively lean 10-15 or just bulking 15-20% in the offseason. This should give some insight on what pros do vs amateurs and maybe some motivation for staying leaner in the offseason....if there really is an offseason!

I'm trying to use the scale and the mirror equally this year. My BF% estimates aren't too far off most of the time, so that's one indicator that a mini-cut might be needed (trying to stay at or under 12%). I'm watching the mirror a lot more, though. I carry a pretty decent amount of my fat around the mid section, so once the abs disappear, it's time to cut down a little.

Personally, I want to stay leaner this off-season because cutting down from such a high BF% was quite a task and I didn't come in as lean as I wanted to. If I'm going to diet for 16-20 weeks, I want to be shredded to the bone next time. I was also a bit uncomfortable being at/over 15%...clothes fit differently, I felt like I actually was a little overweight.

This was a couple of weeks ago.

im kept increasing the cals slowly. i eat like a horse, and im sitting my @ss all day doing computer work (design/web/video). my trainer/coach have me training 4-5days a week with weight, and a few cardio sessions. this is my first REAL offseason, and the most ive ever eaten. guess my body likes higher cals. i dont think i can eat anymore. LOL

I don't plan to get any heavier than I am currently before I begin contest prep next year. I am able to consistently make gains at this weight(230) while still seeing my abs and plenty of separation. I will actually get a bit leaner before the end of the year and see how my strength progression holds with my weight at 225 and even 220. For the top natural pro's there is no off season, its a year round mind set to make quality gains and that is what I have been going for.

What i meant was its the top Pro's that have really figured out how to do this consistently. All of the guys who I aspire to compete with are dedicated on what seems like another level.

I do agree any competitive bodybuilder will benefit from a productive and tracked off season...

Paul you always have that deep cut in your quad on the side poses but I didn't realize it was so visible in the offseason too lol damn.

Its actually a new things this season...all the heavy hack squats and squats have really etched it deeper. I am really trying to add sweep and I guess that is just part of the results. Funny how we all have genetic differences that come out the more development we get...right Mr. Striated Triceps!

Going to stay within 20 pounds of my stage weight this time for sure. Still more than a lot of the guys on here but last time I had to lose 40+ pounds in 16 weeks and it was god awful. Looking forward to being bigger and leaner and taking my time :)

Damn! Your shape in the offseason is better than most stage competitors at locals shows. This is exactly why I started this thread to show many people how lean guys start in the offseason and to show that stage lean is SO MUCH leaner than most people know.

Most of you guys that have posted are in excellent shape!

I would like to see some PROs post up there shots.

Weight 186 kicking around the idea of some Spring shows, since my last go was an epic fail, stayed 35lbs lighter than the last time. Hoping to only need to lose 20lbs or so.
