STRETCHING

Stressing the importance of stretching had been either neglected, ignored or put aside.

The flexibility the stretch offers creates a dense lean body which is able to take the hardships of day to day exercise, while also protecting and defending the body from injury. Simply performing the stretch does not necessarily generate the right preparation for performance, thus emphasizing the importance of the right stretching techniques.

There are two types of flexibility receptors, a static receptor, which measures magnitude and a dynamic receptor, which measure speed and magnitude. Activities such as running , jumping, or kicking use the dynamic receptor. The dynamic receptor is more beneficial when preparing for a warm-up when performing a dynamic activity.

Dynamic stretching is the pre workout warm up. Dynamic stretching also includes constant motion throughout the warm-up, which maintains the core body temperature.

Static stretching is used to stretch the muscles while the body is at rest. Static is the post workout cool down building strength in joints and increasing the range of motion.

Ballistic stretching is a bouncing and/or aggressive stretch which is practiced but, not advised unless under the care of a professional.

DYNAMIC – Movement stretching ie high knees, butt kicks, standing lunge, twist etc

STATIC – No movement or bouncing of the body and held to increase density and strength

BALLISTIC – Bouncing or forcing the limb past its desired point casing injury and damage
