View Full Version : Another 'please help me calculate my macros/calories' thread.. please!
Can anyone help me calculating my daily macros and calories? I've read the sticky and attempted myself a few times, just wanted to check my accuacy.
Age: 21
Height: 157cm (5”2)
Weight: 53.5kg (118lbs)
Seated/Active job (uni student and p/t admin work)
Workout six days per week for roughly an hour
I’d like to lose body fat, I'm happy with the amount of muscle I have from weight training, so looking for my maintenance calories/macros, and how to adjust that to cutting.

Another 'see the sticky (link in my sig)' reply :D
I did read the sticky, that's where I got the different methods to do it myself, but I still don't think I have it right, my results seem way off.

I used to have a great quote from Rowyn in my sig that says "Real life supersedes formula".
Different formulas are going to give you different answers, but you can sort of see a general trend (ex: between 2000 and 2250), which would be enough to get you started. From there you can monitor how your weight is changing and how your body responds. Then adjust from there if you need to.

So you've visited the sticky... Yes, you will get a "range". This is not a "one size fits all" approach, you will have to figure out by trial and error exactly where you fall. Not to mention that 100% accuracy in calorie counting and exercise expenditure is impossible.
Start with the higher number recommended. Stay there for a few weeks. If you aren't losing, drop another 100 calories and wait a few weeks. Keep going until you reach desired result.

Hey oowl, I calculated out
your BMR using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation and got 1250. With an activity factor of 1.6 you get 2000 calories. From what I understand through these threads, you only want to go 10-20% lower so I'd say try out anywhere from 1800-1600 calories and see how that works for you (:

i didn't check what you did, but assume you know what you're doing, and it was very nice of you to do it for her. but sometimes it's better to teach a man to fish, you know?

Yeah I totally agree - but she did say she did it herself and just wanted to check calcs. Just giving her the benefit of the doubt (:
Thanks so much for the help everyone, I've upped my calories, and I'm actually finding it hard to eat more food. It's so foreign to what I've told myself for so long!
Just to clear things up, It was the actual math equations/formulae that were confusing me, and because I got a couple of different answers with the same formula, I just wanted to double check my math. Thanks again, and repped :)
