View Full Version : Is adding say 2.5KG to my bar every 2 weeks "much" ?

I started out lifting a 20KG bar in the beginning (2001), but never got into BB'ing fully, it simply wasn't a priority back then.

Over a long time (8 years) I only did like 10 workouts tops but even so, I got the bar to 22.5KG (2009).

Now its 2011 and I have started lifting a lot more seriously now, every single day I do something and keep switching it around trying to shock my muscles groups etc, and its only taken 2 weeks (less in fact) to add 2.5KG and now the bar is 25KG! Thats because I am lifting it every other day and eating TWICE as much food, yep, pretty much double what I was! Everything is in place, I love doing this now I am getting into it, its as if the more you lift the more you wanna eat and the more you eat the more you wanna lift, the simple fact is I AM NOT STOPPING THIS TIME AROUND.

What I did was, found myself being able to lift the 22.5KG bar for 11 reps the other day - so I added 2.5KG and now I can lift that 25.0KG bar 6 times which is about the exact weight increase I wanted.

As soon as I lift this bar 10 times or more, I will again bump it up by 2.5KG to 27.5KG.

All I want to ask is... does adding 2.5KG to a bar every 2 weeks sound like "much" or is it nowhere near enough? Maybe its more than most, maybe less, maybe its average, I need to know because I don't have a clue what I should be adding, I am just making it as tough as I possibly can, working out every single day (I mean a muscle group every 48h but I literally don't have any rest days, haven't needed to rest yet in 2 weeks of doing it, so I will just rest when I feel like I should be resting.

Its at 25KG right now. This would mean in 52 weeks adding at a rate of 1.25KG per week, the bar would go from 25KG to 90KG!!!!

I am sorry but something just doesn't add up here - if I keep on adding 1.25KG per week... look at the difference there the weight is more than TRIPLING in 52 weeks!

From current gains this is exactly what I aim to do. There will be a plateau I guess.

Im not on steroids either BTW (honest) but I still have some left from years ago I might start on those when I get some good foundation muscle. Its already starting, I look different now to what I did just TWO WEEKS AGO. I know its probably n00b gains but I dunno.

What do YOU manage to add onto your bar (curls) or dumbbells (same thing just half it) or your bench press each week?

Over 1KG of weight added each week sounds just bloody amazing to me, LONG MAY IT CONTINUE.

If you can continually add weight and get the same number of reps or more with the higher weight, then keep doing that until you no longer progress.

Thanks... its just a case of when that might happen, I guess.

I think I might be getting the Methandrostenolone tablets out again when it does.

You're 19.... all I can say is - holy crap I have got a long way to go! I was 19 once.... 15 years ago.
