Well bad day today at the gym. Ive been very dedicated these past few weeks since i started but i dont know why, i just dont like this gym to be honest. Its not a fitness gym but its not a bodybuilding gym either. Its a mix. A lot of the big guys go there, and they're obviously into building muscle. Anyways earlier today i was in there 3rd week this is, and i left after about 30mins. I did a warm up on the bikes, and then some stretching and then went to the benches (room.) Anyways i dont know but it was like 10kg and the bar was heavy in itself, and i tried lifting 20kg after lol, and i couldnt get the bar back in the ****ing pegs. Gym idiot <. Anyways after almost injurying myself for being a moron i put it back on. Did about 3 lighter sets, went straight on the fly machine and then left. Luckily no one saw me do that but that really got to me.

I need a spotter for this and i think squats cause i know i can lift quiet heavy besides being skinny. My question is can i leave the bench press and the squats at home and just do the machines at the gym, and maybe some shoulder presses with the barbell? I know how important squats are and was just wondering if i can leave these exercises for home as i have a decent bench and lots of weights. Would i still get big doing this? What would you do if you was in my position. Im not giving up on being big at all but man that was a bad feeling leaving that gym today...

You CAN build muscle by using machines. I suggest you start building some muscle using machines and when you feel comfortable enough (and get stronger) give the benchpress/squat another try.

Trial and error!

Good advice cheers. It just kind of ****s up the whole plan thing..Doesn't it? Most of the routines like starting strength include benches squats as the main exercises am i correct? Shall i just keep doing all muscles in one workout like a noob for a few weeks? Its hard to do a split or anything right now. I am kind of lost. I'm going back tomorrow as i ****ed up completely today so any more advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

everyone's tried to lift too heavy before... don't worry about it
working out is for you, not anyone else at the gym and everyone walked in there for the first time before. i stayed away from the bench at school and at dryland until i could keep up with all the older dudes there

It IS kind of embarrassing failing with weights that light but we all start somewhere. I pretty much started benching 65-75 lbs (bar +10's or 10's and 5's)....can't remember. Benching 95 lbs was like a DREAM to me when I started lol. Now I can bench over 350 lbs. I would say keep benching with just the bar if you have to. BUt if you're REALLY uncomfortable than you CAN stick with the machines for now as was suggested.

Easy for me to say, but, leave ego at the door when entering the gym.

Bar x 50 on the bench press and don't care if the biggest alpha male is waiting for my station with an ugly I want to rip you to shreds grin.

If you're into weight lifting, you want confidence anyways - so forget all about this thing you call embarrassment. It's of no use to you.

Do everything at the gym, take the room and time you need to do a good job at it. You paid for it.

OP I went to dumbbell bench 110s a year or so ago.. and as I laid back I couldn't get them up off my chest and had to awkwardly drop them... I felt like everyone was looking at me.

But I dusted myself off and lowered the weight a bit and went about my workout, staying focused.

Last week I grabbed the 120s and repped them out for sets three times.

People were looking at me again -- but for a different reason. Beast mode was activated, lol.

Stay with it man.

To me, I don't care about how much someone can lift. I don't care if they fail. But if you try your hardest, and mean every set... I respect you. I especially respect people who are either really skinny or overweight who are working like a SOB. On the contrary, if you beat around the bush (even if you're 250 pounds lean) and waste time in the gym, you look like a damn idiot.

Just give it everything you got, I think people will eventually respect you for it.
