has she recently begun taking birth control pills?

Something is off with her hormones - she should definitely see her doctor.

Back in 2007 I spent 3 weeks out of that July on my period...I never learned why because I didn't see my doctor about it. Thankfully, it didn't appear to be anything major, but please encourage her to make an appointment with her dr. It could be something as simple (if that's possible) as her hormones, or it could be something more serious. And if it's not too personal, maybe let us know if she finds out what it is? I'm kinda curious :)
