I was just wondering about some people's perception of a "4 day on one day off and then repeat" split. I've been using this routine for 6 months or so (with changing set/rep schemes every couple of months) and have been getting decent gains but nothing extrodianary.

I get a solid 8-9 hours sleep/night and eat well so I haven't been particulary concerned about overtraining, BUT...I know many people are pretty adament about hitting a muscle group just once per week so I was looking for a bit of discussion.

With my 4 on, 1 off scheme I am still getting 4 full days away from a particular bodypart (120 hours). Shouldn't that be enough time for recovery or would one still consider it overtraining?

Any response would be appreciated.

I like the 4 on 1 off. I think mine is working really well for me.

4 on and one off is enough rest. You can make gains just fine with that split. your body will have time to rest and utilize the protein to help your muscles recover.

I have a good amount of training under my belt and I found that working out 4 days on 1 day off is just the right amount of recovery for me. A five or six day split is too long and I was not seeing any major improvements in my phsique, or at least it was taking too long.
