So I'm possibly getting my wisdom tooth removed. I'm guessing I can't lift for a few weeks after that? Does anyone know how many weeks exactly? And what do I do? Do I just rest and eat a high protein diet still? Or can I do some light cardio... Argh!

Everyone recovers at different speeds. If you have all four removed its possible you will need to sit out seven or eight days.

Again.. Question is just one or all 4? Are they gonna put u out or no?

It's just 1 but my dentist said she's going to consult a surgeon... so I'm guessing it's somewhat kind of a big deal..maybe.

So it just takes 7-8 days? Whew. I thought I was going to have to skip my workouts for 3 weeks or more

Normally it doesn't take long for 1 tooth.

When I had all four done, I was outta the gym maybe a couple days. I SHOULDA waited longer, but what can I say lol...I'm an addict ;)

Just take GOOD care of it so you don't get dry socket in it

I went to a surgeon also, but no it's really not a big deal at all. I had all four out at once and was back to everything including lifting in two days. It's a simple thing really, and involves very little pain IMO, but a couple people I know had a harder time with it. Oh and I was able to eat normal solid foods within 15 min of getting home from the surgery lol, there is no need to do the liquid diet thing.

Oh so it's really not that big a deal then. I was worried for nothing :)

Anyway, thanks for all your replies guys!

Is the tooth visible? Or is it under ur gums? If you can see it then everything is much easier. Recovery time also depends on the roots of the tooth. Some go straight down so ur dentist will be able to remove it easily but some are joined at the end, and may require surgery. Mine was visible, straight root. I got it removed in the morning, went home, slept for a couple of hours had a shake, and went to the gym:p

I will say it depends on the person, the tooth, etc. I had all 4 surgically removed, I couldn't eat solids for almost 2 weeks. I had to take 3 weeks off of training, because I was just too sore and wasn't eating enough to maintain my activity level without serious losses.

The surgeon sucked though, I was bruised and swollen for almost 2 months post surgery.

Play it by ear, don't try and plan until you know how the surgery went for you.

My husband was out of it for maybe two days. I got lock-jaw and couldn't eat after my procedure and by the time I got sorted out I was too weak to do much of anything.

It varies I guess, is my point...

It's under the gum. I can't see it.. and it doesn't hurt but it's making my other teeth move so I guess I have to take it out.

Thanks for all your replies. I guess I'll just have to see what happens

This was my experience. All 4 of mine were impacted and one had to be sectioned. They said I had very hard wisdom to get out. I was in pain and on narcotics for almost two weeks and it took about that long to be able to eat solid food, and even then it had to be soft foods. I couldn't lift for at least 2 weeks and when I went back, I was SUPER weak. Narcotics = strength loss.

I had all four removed at the same time, mouth swollen, looked like a hamster, bruised to hell and back but decided no matter how much pain I was in I was hungry and I was going to eat proper food no matter what. Took me two weeks to heal up.

that being said a friend of mine, she was in a right state and she couldn't eat solid for ages.

Oh btw I wasn't lifting at the time but I would imagine if had been I'd have taken a good few weeks off that's for sure, even if I did heal up pretty fast.

It varies. I had all four of mine at the same time but was eating the same day regular foods. No problems. Just go off of how it feels and ask the dr who is doing the procedure. They will give you advice if you tell them your specific situation. Normally they go over any questions before you get it done since you may be a bit out of it afterwards :). Good luck and don't worry. Stressing out will not allow your body to heal like it needs to!

I was back on my feet pretty fast after having mine out (all 4, general anesthetic). Course I was only doing biking at the time, no lifting.

I got all four taken at once.

I only took that day off of work, and the day after. I did not miss a scheduled training session, I don't believe (it was 12 years ago.) But I think I deal with pain and discomfort much better than the average person.

Narcotics = strength loss.

This may be true in your case, but not across the board. In mine, opioid-based pain medication gives increased energy and markedly improved strength.

I can conquer the world on opiates..........and even deal with my ex husband :D.
