My motivation is shaky I think because of the unstable reasons that I want to work out. To cut a long story short, my main motivation is to get girls. And I feel like my main source of motivation should be to improve myself, just because I want to better my life. However, it is really difficult for me to sway that view that I'm working out just to get girls. I feel like I'm doing it just for others, and not for myself and I want to change that.
How about you? is your main source of motivation internal, meaning personal or external, like girls, and better looks?

What's wrong with getting girls?

there's nothing wrong if that's your motivation, but in the long run u gotta do this for yourself first.

That's exactly my point. In the end, I'm not doing this for myself, I'm doing it to get others. It just seems like that outweighs working out for myself

To be honest the main reason I work out is I love the feeling of pushing the metal. The rush, the great mood it puts me in and the fact that every gym session brings me closer to the person I want to be and all the great benefits that come along with that like:
More respected
Better sex life
Healthier
Can defend myself better
Look better = treated better

That's great to hear. I'd love to have a great reason like that. Good Luck on your training mate.
I picked this up from a blog and its true in my opinion.
Do it for you. Whatever your motivation may be... it should all come down to just doing it for yourself. Not to get women. Looks will get you there but personality keeps you there. So if you're aiming just for looks you're seriously going to attract the wrong type of females. Anyways, you're doing it because you want to improve yourself.
Anybody else? What is your main reason you work out?

Free your mind from the notion that working out to get girls is wrong. Its NOT wrong. Dig deep enough and you'll find that your reason for lifting is one of the primordial instincts that build a man. Therefore, you are essentially lifting for yourself, my friend.

Definitely right about attracting the wrong ones, looks don't keep a relationship functioning. Though I do admit turning heads does give me a good laugh. I work out because it makes me feel great, setting new goals and demolishing them brings me to a whole new level of confidence. If you don't have the confidence then you won't achieve greatness. Its not a competition against every other weight lifter, you can however draw motivation from it. Working out gives me the energy to get through the day and relieves my stress, its like a drug to me without the side effects. You have to love yourself before you can love anyone else.

I train because it's fun, because I want to be strong, because I want to live a long time, and because I want to get better for sports. Seeking mates falls several pegs below that.
There's no need to hide it, though. If that's your motivation, then you might as well stick with it. One less person in the gym when spring break/summer passes, I say.
