ive been wanting to compete for some time now and have been forcing myself to wait it out a little longer to be sure im ready physically and mentally. ive got my eye on a show in november and have decided that Ill start prep sometime in July,as soon as i get back from vacation on the 5th. this will give me about 16 weeks of prep. anyway, Im curious what to expect for the cost of a coach. im planning on getting a well experienced coach, there are several in my area that are well known and knowlegdable. i know they will all vary a bit but im curious what to plan for *ballpark*. if it helps i mostly need help with diet/posing/ other tips...not much as far as training. anyone care to share?

costs vary. some do $100/wk. some do a flat rate $500-$1600 for diet/training. all depends on their demand (due to the results they achieve.)

it varies. You should ask each coach for a rough estimate.

Photos is what most prep Coaches look at to see were you are at. If you want someone to be like Charles Glass then I hope you have deep pockets that kind of hands on is big money and most would not even work with you. Sorry blunt, I like Alex's approach honest and to the point. Diet spot on corrects were it is needed and replay's fast I don't know about the others Even though I'm in Los Angeles as is Alex. I will most likely only see him at the show.
But your young if you get a good diet program and training partner you will grow like a weed. most prep coaches have off Season deals this will start the process so when you want to hit a show they have already tuned you up. That can cost from 400 and up worth it. If you don't have to think about what to eat but when make a huge inpact. Best of Luck the one last think is you need to have a good Vibe with the person or you will hate life.
Best of Luck

I'll 2nd this. A couple of guys around my way work with Alex and have amazing results. I've spoken with him a few times via e-mail, I'll be using him for my contest prep next year. As far as pricing goes, he's very very affordable for the quality you'll get in return.

x10000 on Alex.
First and only coach I'll ever work with. The results I've achieved from being with him over the past 5 months exceed everything I've attained in my 3 years of lifting.

I did 500, but i must say, after doing my cutting without a coach last season, that it was one of the best 500 ive spent.. the motivation, and thought of having someone there with an honest opinion doing the smarts for you is such a comforting feeling... Even rodney roller admitted in one of the latest MD vids that he never felt better for a comp than he did going into one with Oscar as his coach instead of alone..
Obvious advice, research the coach and find one with the most experience and/or success.. mine placed top 10 in the mens heavyweight class at nats like 2yrs ago and has prepped other national level competitors to their victories.

thanks :) i dont live too far from cathy savage studios, she trains a lot of the popular oxygen models. i was thining of going with her. theres few other people nearby that i thought id check out also. ive gotten myself pretty far on my own but know that having someone really nitpick my diet and training and help me with the actual peak week diet/techniques will be good. as far as cutting cals goes, i think i need someone to sterenly keep me accountable and lay out a strict plan for me, otherwise i veer right into maintenance eating.
