Holy arms batman!! And everything else obviously, but I didn't realise how well developed his arms are.
Hopefully this will give hope to people who want to stay natural, without having to think they must resort to drugs to achieve an incredible physique. Though 'incredible' is a matter of perspective, I guess

i don't think he's doing himself any favors on the front relaxed. he goes maybe a bit too far on the greek god side there but could look a lot bigger/more menacing hitting it more normally.

Good call Phil!
J-Rod took second in the middleweights to Kingsley Deslorieux.
IFPA pro Panexce Pierre won the light heavies and the overall earning him an IFBB pro card!
Curious to see how this will play out....will he be forced to choose between the organizations now? I'm guessing he will.

I said this to maybe 5 people last night after watching the pre judging video LOL. Dudes transitions and most of the poses he hits are overly awkward.

Grats to Panex...that's nuts. If I remember correctly he left the WNBF due to a loss to Cordova which turned into a few IFPA Pro wins.....then an IFBB pro card, dayum, props glore. That is nuts.

one of his stronger poses but only thing i really see he got beat in was crab MM and that is pretty much due to how he displayed it. his front relaxed he got beat in because he didnt really bring his arms up or flare that hard. didnt lean back enough/roll shoulders forward on his RLS so got out-posed but not outmassed in his RLS IMO, just basing that off of how awesome his front latspread looked

j rod: http://pics.musculardevelopment.com/index.php?mode=browse&id=8798&eventcode=1462
not a fan of his posing either, needs some work and it looks too much like a routine rather than holding mandatories
his crab MM looks pretty awkward in this pic
http://pics.musculardevelopment.com/photos/transferred/PWR_5821wtmk.JPG
was reading this thread: http://forums.rxmuscle.com/showthread.php?t=396
dude has some really awkward prep protocol, cuts water from like 5gallons a day to something like 3gallons the day before a show and drops a bunch of water weight
not sure if its still like that since the thread is old and he didnt really update his blog too much this year
regardless, one of my favorite physiques/bbers, would be cool to see him in the ifpa or wnbf though

Does anyone agree that he seems to lose a lot of mass during contest prep? Judging by those offseason pics he should look a lot bigger and fuller.

I think it has to do with how he preps and the fact he does the whole water cutting deal Should hire Berto or Layne and then he could take 1st

He used Laynes peak week methods this year...no crazy water manipulation.
His offseason pictures are taken with very favorable lighting...stage shots are always pretty humbling. I don't believe he's losing any substantial mass.
IMO as great as Jeff looked, Deslorieux was better. His conditioning was nearly as good as JRods and he was significantly thicker. Close call but I definitely agree with the decision.

I can't be the only one who hates how he hits the front double bi....I mean, we get it J-rod, you have great shape. You don't have to stretch out like stretch armstrong to show it off, I think it just makes him look small.

Off course it's hard to compare with two different lightings (btw the lighting at this show was TERRIBLE IMO), but I think he just needs to diet longer and slower...this isn't the first year I noticed this..it seems to be a reoccurring thing. Agree that Deslorieux deserved the win.

omg don't get me started lol. It's almost every pose too...his ab and thigh is pretty much trash because of it. He doesn't even hold his poses correctly at all, he's constantly readjusting himself and is all over the place. It definitely thins him out..

JRod's side poses are very good. Front and back poses IMO need work, but even if his posing was close to perfection he still would have ended up in 2nd.

Seems like year after year, he comes in at the close-off mark of middle/heavyweight... In the off season, he gets bigger and bigger though. Something wrong with the contest prep then eh?

Not to sure what he does with his prep so I cant really comment on that, but the guy that won was just better than him on that day IMO. Lets not forget that JRod is one of the best on the planet and here we are saying what he should of or shouldnt have been doing. To me, he still looked incredible and his physique is what a lot of natural bodybuilders look up to including myself.

Most definitely. I've met him in person in the off season and he was huge! I was just confused on how he gets bigger in the off season yet still makes the 176 mark for the past 4 years.
But that aside, he's pretty cool and is an inspiration. Very strong too!

Yep that's what I was thinking. Then again I believe on his side chest he could drop it down more, but thats being nit picky.
Dudes physique is unreal though and Id give my left nut (and probably right....ah fuk it) to look like him.

To take nearly 2 years off stage and still come in at 176.25 lbs. is not a lot of progress for someone at his level--he needs to compete fuller as a LHW..... Jeff has one of the best physiques out there and there are very few who should be able to stand next to him, but something gets lost in the weeks leading up to the show and he manages to let someone slip past him.

Or it could be the massive amount of water intake or dehydration to make weigh in, which actually he probably weighs in the 190's IMO. If he "weighs in" less than what he is, fills out...he will own everybody else who may actually weigh 176, but once he steps on stage and fills out, he is actually more muscular than a 176lb frame that he weighed in at...understand?

J-Rod on his contest weight/conditioning....posted Sunday 7/10:
"Its a long story, but in short, I did a show at around 5 weeks out to "test" what I would look like a little more out of shape/heavier. I weighed in at 187 at this show (Nevada State Bodybuilding Show). Though to me my placing was irrelevant at the show (because I did it simply to test out something new), I took my usual 2nd place, which is not bad, but I really did not like the way I looked. I thought that despite BEING bigger (as in weighing more) I did not LOOK bigger. So with a little less than 5 weeks to go, I decided I would just try to catch up and get as conditioned as possible till Team Universe. I did not use the scale as a guide, but I realized that I was getting closer to the low 180s and would actually be able to make the middleweight class.
Its always hard to asses what happened right after a show. Lots of ideas come to mind, I think this, then that, etc. It takes time, marinating over different ideas, to really figure out where I stand and what went good/bad. So right now I cannot say. I initial hunch is that I did not put on enough muscle this past offseason (that would be a simple solution to why I'm not bigger/weigh more in shape). I will take some time to think about it for now, and come up with a gameplan for the next offseason.
The guy who placed ahead of me, Kingsley, was a real nice guy, and we spent a lot of time chatting back stage. You said you go on the boards, so if you happen to read this, Kingsley, congratulations!
I am going out of town for a few days and will be back next week--I am still in New Jersey. I think I will not have internet access, or even if I do it will be very brief/seldom. So I will post about this on my blog, post my diet for this prep, and my thoughts on the show next week when I get back."
