So I use Olive Oil for my cooking...but I noticed in Salad dressings and even Garlic Salt that they use Canola oil. How bad is Canola and do you have any suggestions for salad dressings that contain olive oil?
Thanks...

There is nothing wrong with canola oil, you can use it as well. :)

Canola oil is not a trans fat. It's a natural oil found in rapeseed. It's a great flavorless oil when you want to taste your food & not what it was cooked in.

You can also just easily make your own salad dressing if you want to use different oils. I sometimes use walnut or sesame oils depending on the flavor I am making.

I use canola all the time, sometimes safflower, sometimes olive - canola really isn't that bad for you, despite the minor amount of transfats it usually has in it. However, olive oil and balsamic vinegar go together well for salad dressing, add a little oregano and it's as delicious as any purchased dressing.

For a tbsp of canola oil, that's 14g, you get 1g of transfat. The same amount of olive oil has no transfats. 1g transfats isn't something to be that worried about though.

Edit: little reference on the trans fats that appear in Canola and rapeseed oil because of the processing http://www.tfx.org.uk/page13.html#CAN
