I live in east PDX(Gresham) and have memberships to 24-Hour Fitness and LA Fitness.
What parts of PDX are you moving to? The 24-Hour Ftinesses range from crappy to amazing. The 24 at Mall 205 on the Eastside blows but the SE McGloughlin 24 is great as is the Lance Armstrong one in Tualatin and the SE 42nd St in Hollywood. LA Fitnesses are good and I like their equipment selection best. There's a Crunch in Gresham and Beaverton. They are the cheapest at $10/month if you pay for a full year but their Startrack equipment (in my opinion) is more gadget based and not as ergonomic as the Hoist/Cybex/Nautalus at other gyms....this is a preference issue. I've worked out at the Gresham Crunch and the clientel there is ANNOYING. No gym manners, working out in street clothes, lingering on machines.
There are some great old school gyms. Laprinzi's in southeast is rated one of the best old-schools in the country! When I say old-school I mean OLD SCHOOL. Well maintained but ancient equipment....but it's pretty awesome. Jungle Gym on SE Foster is cheap and pretty old school too.
Avoid the 24-hour Fitness on 4th street downtown and ESPECIALLY in the Pearl District unless getting ogled by and hit on by dudes is your thing. No judgements, but the clientel there is like that.
Lloyd Athletic Club is extremely nice but spendy. If you are rich, look into Multnomah Athletic Club...but that costs $5000 to join and the monthly dues are outrageous. Of course, the place is an absolute palace....but is it really worth that?
Personally, I do most of my working out at LA Fitness. They are relatively new to PDX so their facilities are newer and there Cybex/Nautalus/Free Weight equipment is well-chosen and laid out.
Holler at my with a PM if you have any questions....I've worked out at most of the gyms on the eastside and downtown.
Peace.

Its gonna be pretty much like everywhere else. Deciding factors will be your area and time of day. PDX can get kinda crowded, but I've always liked 24hr fitness. If you are moving into downtown you'll have a lot of options since everything seems to be crunched together there. Good luck, bro.
