Yeah, three competing bodybuilders are in this already LOL.

If anything it gives the less developed/experienced people an advantage. A more advanced athlete wont make the improvements that newer people to the sport will. If I were overweight and dieting down that might be a different story.

yea dude all that experience and years of training is going to help me pack it on big in 18 weeks lol notserious.jpg

Hey Steve, where did your macros bottom out towards the end of your prep?

The lowest I got was 20f/145c/180p and I believe at that point my metab took a big hit. Starting adding 10cho back in EVERY DAY and watched the scale. Got back up to 250ish and started making progress again. if I could do it all over I would have probably started even higher in cho or taken a diet break. What are you at currently?

i'm at 50f/120c/225p and 40f/300c/225p (every 5th day). considering dropping carbs on low days and upping protein a bit next time i make a move...see what happens...

I feel about as good as can be expected I suppose. I'm too scared all my muskels will fall off if I drop protein lol...in fact, I'm trying to convince myself not to raise it! I guess I'm just subconsciously under the illusion that more protein = less risk of muscle wasting...which is completely untrue, especially considering I'm already at nearly 1.4g/lb.

I think I just need to come to terms w/ the fact that my calories may have to get REALLY low in order to reach my goals by comp time. Not ideal obviously, but I'll have plenty of time for repair once the shows are finally over with...

sorry to clutter up your new log on the first page brah!

I'm so jealous of all the carbs you get now-a-days! The pancakes a couple posts up and now the oats w/ ice cream are just killing me.

What are your macros currently? How have you gone about adjusting them post-contest so far, and how do plan to continue adjusting as the weeks go on?

Legs looking siiiiick, strong mirin'.

Also regarding sludge, tuna and/or herring (smoked sardines) are great add-in's to cottage cheese/ff gy. Also peppers , diced green onions, Smoked paprika, and cumin (light hand on these last two) add nice flavors.

Do you pick up arctic zero locally? I can't find it anywhere but I'm tempted to order some online.... wonder how one orders ice cream online, does it come in a refrigerated package? hmmmmmm

Looks can be deceiving. That day was a refeed of 400cho. During the week Im at 275 which seems like a lot when youve been down below 150 but at the same time its never enough. Im still doing whatever I can to ^ volume. Im currently at 50/280/200 but am thinking about bumping it slightly depending on how this week goes. My weight fluctuates but hangs in the high 168s. The increase in veggies have definately helped but at the same time Id rather have a massive stack of pancakes. Eating those are good but its almost a tease.

Ive also been tapering cardio down as well. Im sticking to it the best I can and its not easy because mentally ur thinking that slipping wont matter as you dont have a contest coming up. Im afraid if I get too lax Ill get slip completely so Im sticking to everything the best I can.

Its actually my phone cam. Usually the pics turn out pretty sh*tty. I get the AZ at whole foods or sprouts. Not sure if you have those in your area. Ordering it can get expensive because they ship it in ice packs I believe.

You know Im still doing a fairly traditional bb split. I definately need to have a more contructed routine but my lack of energy lately has affected my ability to be more motivated. Im still trying to lift as heavy as possible and usually stick to more of a PHAT regime. Strength is pretty decent but that drive/pump is still not quite back yet. I went through quite a bit during my prep and also the gym Im currently at I just dont "feel it." Their equipment is always broken and its always too packed with "bros." I usually leave there pissed off. Hoping to get back in the groove soon though.

Not much of an omelette as Im saving a lot of macros for later but its the first time I tried an Almond Butter omelette. A lot better than I thought. I think it would be better with more egg whites instead of whole eggs and more AB.

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/540/20110420064944834.jpg (http://img43.imageshack.us/i/20110420064944834.jpg/)

First time in a looooooooong time I had just a plain ol bowl of cereal. Defininetly left me wanting refills.

Side note, weight is up a couple pounds. I did bring cho up some but I think a lot of it has to do with the big increase of veggies and those noodles Ive been eating. Sits in my stomach a lot longer.

I'll just hop in here and say it's as easy as it looks:

Cook omelette as you normally would
Just before you fold in half spread on nut butter of choice on one side
Fold and profit ;)

Its not that I cant but Ive stepped away from it for a little as I dont feel quite comfortable yet strength wise. Ill be jumping back into it next week but still having that weakness feeling in my legs makes me feel a little more catious about being UNDER a lot of weight.

Make a chicken burger and you essentially have an American variation on "satay chicken." If you do this let me know how it goes within the next 7 days I will be doing some sort of JL. I was thinking mozzarella and jalapeno.

Also had a decent leg workout yesterday. Im REALLY starting to fall in love with the Cybex leg press. It just feels right. Managed to put some decent weight up athough that explosive energy isnt there.

I have this same machine at my gym and love it. I have noticed I am able to push a significant amount more weight on this machine than the normal "sled" type leg press. I was wondering if that happens with you, or if I am doing somthing wrong on one or the other.

I kind of cheated but it fit my macros perfectly. Here it is.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Cake

100g Pillsbury Pumpkin Bread Mix
20g SF applesauce
50g egg whites
1/2C almond milk

Icing

112g FF cream cheese
15g PB2
15g Almond Butter
1/4 packet SF jello cheesecake
cinnamon

Put it in a 9" round baking pan. It will be very thin. In oven for about 20 mins. Once cool I cut it in 1/4s and put icing in between each layer then stacked them. Used remainder of icing to cover the outside. I would have make it from scratch and used libbys pumpkin but I was all out and Im trying to use up some of the stuff in my pantry. The bread mix itself is very lowfat so it works good. You can also get the fat down by using all PB2 but I had to bring my fat up to hit my numbers. To be honest I kind of just threw it together. Ill do another one from scratch this weekend.

macros: 15f/110c/38p

I starved all day to have this lol.

Since im visiting the fam im doing about 4 meals. I usually eat small throughout the day in order to "reward" myself with meals like that. Had the frittata this morning which was very low in cho and only had 2 slices of that pizza for lunch and passed on cho during dinner. Sitting at 55/300/200.

Bodybuilders who do it and do not binge get my biggest respect and admiration. So many people binge post contest and gain like 20 pounds of fat in a month.

yea I admire anyone who can get that low in bodyfat. I have yet to get that low in bodyfat 12% being the lowest I ever got...followed by binging and following off track. But I do hope to achieve sub 10% sometime. But I do have a question...

Post contest if your goal is to implement reverse dieting does that mean getting straight back to dieting and or do those people usually just have a 1 or 2 day post contest binge followed by reverse dieting? I ask because as far as i know everyone has a post contest binge.

I am not an expert on this - never competed, but I remember Layne saying like 1-2 free meals and then back on a diet where you slowly ramp up calories every week.
I know that Layne is strongly against binges, says that they ruin metabolism.

I see it two ways....

Suffer equally all day and be left unsatisfied after each meal

Or

Suffer more throughout the day but sit down at night to a more filling/satiating meal.

It gives me something to look forward to during the day. Eating a majority of my allotted cho early gives me nothing to look forward to.

To me its harder than actual prep because there is no deadline or show to be ready for. I did 3 consecutive shows and waited till my last one before allowing a cheat. I went out for sushi after and put quite a bit away as well as enjoyed breakfast. I ate very light the next day (pretty much fasted) then got back on my diet. Weight did jump but I was back to show weight within a couple days. This past week I increased cho by 15 and my weight has jumped but im guessing it has to do with the large portions of veggies I've been eating, or I hope.

true but he said he is eating more veggies
He could have replaced an oz of bread with 10-15oz of veggies-->more bulk in system when weighing in.

'Reverse dieting' refers to slowly adding calories back into one's diet after a long cut to avoid excessive fat gain.

I totally agree with Steve on the deadline thing. I did 2 shows last year, had 1 "cheat" meal after my first one then got back on my diet for my second one the following week with no problem. After that, the first week afterwards was probably the hardest time to stick to a diet, and to be honest if I didn't have my offseason plan set out and set a goal to come back better the next year then I probably would've gone much crazier.

It really just comes down to how bad you want it, and what you're willing to risk. Sometimes it's hard to justify this to yourself without a set goal or deadline. I'd advise anyone whos dieting to actually plan how they are going come out of it after they get to the level they're satisfied with, otherwise it's really easy to lose focus.

Salmon was leftovers from the night before. I cook the onions/mushrooms in the pan till browned then added the egg/egg whites and let cook for a little. Then added the salmon and cooked a little more then finished it in the oven. Sprinkled cheese on a couple mins before removing from oven.

Right on dude. Yea Ive had the chocolate which is good. I dont understand how some people dont like it. I find it sweeter than reg PB. Ive been using PB2 lately but something about the BnPB I like more. Must be the consistancy. Im wondering how the macros compare between the 2. Its hard cuz PB2 is dry weight compared to BnPB wet. Unless 12g PB2 once reconstituted with water ends up being 32g.

ErickStevens

They are very good, for what they are at least. So far used plain ol soy sauce..was good.

I used the lowfat cream of mushroom as like a moch alfredo. Works very well. When u do it with sirracha what else do u add? Seems like it might be too spicy with sirracha alone.

I do realize Ive just been posting food p0rn and this is more than just a food log I just have been going through a lot of transitions lately. Switching gyms, work has been busy, etc. Ill try to be more detailed with other aspects such as training. Today I did occluded quads/hams/calves. First time doing calves and Id have to say it was the most painful by far.

So last night I thought some things over ie; priorities, future, etc and came to conclusion that a change is needed. It has been about 6 weeks since my first show. I have been reverse dieting this whole time, very strict I might add, and it has definitely got in the way of a lot of things that are what Id say is more important. My strength/energy is still suffering, lack of motivation in the gym, same with work. My family has pretty much labeled me as having an ED and are "worried about me." Im no longer prepping for a show yet Im still tracking what Im eating pretty strictly. My focus ever since my last show has been 99% on food. I really noticed it when looking over this log too as thats all Im posting about lol.

I feel that currently Im not leaning out nor getting stronger/putting on size. Talking with Berto he said Im probably due for a more significant bump when it comes to the diet as well as having "no count" or "eyeball" days. If I dont push myself back to having a more normal lifestyle Im afraid Ill become even more obsessive.

I feel Im one of those people that needs to put on some fat before I physically feel normal again. Yes it would be nice to stay lean but from what Ive been neglecting/sacrificing it is just not worth it. I dont want to come off like Im giving up on the whole reverse diet because Im not. I just feel Im still stuck in the pre contest mindset with no contest to compete in. Ive got so many other things I have to focus on right now that are way more important. I need to go from pre contest mode to offseason mode giving my training more attention. Theres no point me depriving myself if I have no motivation in the gym. I really noticed last night when walking with a few friends I almost had a hard time keeping up because I still feel weakness in my legs, not just from training either. Ive been told by my family/friends that Ive "changed" and my sister even said "I want my brother back" which broke my heart. I seriously feel like they might be planning an intervention or something. Ive been approached by a few people that were "concerned." My best friend which Ive known for over 17 years told me I have one of those personalities that when I want something I focus soley on that 110%.

So Im going to actually set up an offseason gameplan as I feel like Im just "coasting" per se and actually need to start putting more focus on getting stronger, putting on size, catching up with other priorities. Trying to maintain that balance. Bodybuilding is still just a hobby for me and these past 7 months it has severely interfered with my life. Heres a small list of goals I have....

*Have a more structured workout regime (Ive been doing a lot of reading and am still deciding on what I want to do)

*Mentally get back to my "normal self"

*Maintain a balance between bb and life. Family/friends first.

*Put more focus into my job.

*Bring cals up just enough to slowly put on size and get me "recovered"

*Enjoy life (important one)

Im still going to be tracking cals but will try to be more lax about it as well as have days where I just "wing it." If I eat too much one day, so what, Im consistant enough its not gonna affect me. I dont plan on competing for at least another 2 years. Im ok with some fat gain but will NOT let myself go. Between my 2nd season and this one I tracked cals the same way and started prep fairly lean. I keep forgetting about that and for some reason become obsessed with "oh no I went over my macros a little too much Im gonna get fat" attitude.

I havent really posted about it as I wanted to give it a week trial run first but I have been IFing and actually really like it. It has helped me as far as being more satiated after meals as well as keep my hunger at bay. Ive always been someone that likes large meals and small meals througout the day just dont cut it for me. This way I can enjoy larger meals and still stay within my macros.

Oh and dont think Im gonna be slacking on the food pr0n cuz Im always experimenting with cooking/baking to find out new little secrets to make dieting easier. Heres one for the road :)

Damn dude, that was a tough read. Most, if not all (dialed in ;)) competitors have been in that situation. It took me about 2 months post show to finally get back into the lax mindset where I'm not constantly thinking about food and obsessing over everything BB related where it distracted me from my family and personal life. I fully support the fact that if your gym performance is suffering, you should up the cals and get into a comfortable set-point. As I mentioned in my log, some people can stay lean and feel normal, others can't. The risk to benefit ratio just isn't worth it.

I'm not much of an eyeballing person however. Personally I would add more aggressive calorie bumps while still monitoring the calories so you can determine at which point things start to change, and use that as a future reference. However with that being said, there is no reason to eyeballing small things like 2 strawberries or a cup of broccoli if you find the need to.

Lastly, stay on track with the diet, but when you are going out with friends or you have a family event, cut back on calories from another meal, eat/order something that you can guesstimate or have a nutrition fact sheet, and enjoy. The quality time that you will have with your friends and family will far outweigh any fear or confusion regarding the slight mis-calculation of your macros for that meal.

Stay focused, stay strong, kill it in the gym, but at the same time focus on other priorities such as career, family, friends and community.

yea I have no problem sticking to a diet but when others are thinking Im prioritizing bb over them that becomes a problem to me. Little update: I havent mentioned it before but Ive been sick for the last couple weeks. Its not like Ive got a cold. I notice it most in the morning and evening. Throats a little sore as well as stuffy nose. Its just been lingering a while.

Also I made today my "no count" day, even though I still somewhat counted as its a habit Ive had. Tried not to but its still tough. Trying to get over that mental barrier. Worried about eating too much or in the wrong ratios. I guess if its only one day I cant really do too much damage right. Doing a slightly larger bump this week to see how it goes. I made a 15cho bump 2 weeks ago and for some reason my weight shot up but has been consistant since then. Not sure what thats all about. For some reason I feel like I looked a lot better at this weight previously then now. Berto mentioned it could have to do with hormones so maybe its just water retention. Either way Im looking forward to hopefully getting back to a more normal regime and getting more intense in the gym.

These 2 points are what stood out the most for me from all that. Its good that you have realised that you werent enjoying life as much and you felt becoming distant to your loved ones all because of the importance you were placing on your food choices.

The key to it all is balance. I felt a different person when I was counting everything down to a T. I was snappy, moody, so an*l about everything that I didnt like where it was going and realised it before it got too late. I think trying out keto did this to me. I felt great doing keto, but im not being funny, a diet where i have to limit vegetable choices etc is not a diet worth doing imo.

Good luck fella, keep your goals in mind and live life the way its meant to be lived!

Dam Slov,

Props and respect too you for recognizing that this way of life was starting to affect other aspects of your life. I respect the fact that you are willing to change some things around without totally disregarding eating/training and you understanding that bodybuilding is a hobby for you but something that you will not give up on also.

I have the same personality where once you get something in your head you focus on it 110 percent. I tend to be an all or nothing type of person where I can go 100mph in one direction one day..flip the next day and go in the complete different direction. I have worked on that found the balance..well somewhat haha, and it seems like you are getting ready to find that balance. Repped! FFUU once I spread some around. What can I say your meals be killing it!

Yea dude. I seem to put focus to one thing and that one thing only. When you diet for 6 months the deprivation and lifestyle almost becomes the "norm" so when you try to get out of that routine its difficult.

Wow dude, this was a tough read. Would rep but your on recharge. You seem to a very smart person and your taking the right steps to accomplish the things you want. Your completely right "balance"

Yea, I just need to get over the fact that I cant maintain a super lean physique all year round and feel good mentally/physically. Once I put on a little bit of fat I think things will start to come together.

Well, I woke up this morning feeling like absolute cr*p. Sore throat, stuffy nose, headache, stomach upseet. Not sure whats going on. Ive been slighly sick for a while so maybe its finally coming in full force. I did notice something interesting last night. I was leaning again the counter for a few minutes and when I stepped away I had a huge indention in the side of my leg that stayed there for a good 20 mins. I must be holding a ton of water for some reason. Even noticed indentions around my ankles from my socks. Wondering if it has to do with being sick or maybe hormones. Hopefully itll subside. Maybe thats where the weight gain is coming from.

You hit the nail on the head bro. Bodybuilding, at least for most of us, is just a hobby and its important to always keep that in mind. Just like everything else in life, you have to have a balance between your bodybuilding life and personal life. Most of us admire guys like Layne and Berto because of the physique they bring to the bodybuilding stage but what's equally if not more impressive is that, while bodybuilding is important to them, they are still able to maintain that balance.

Besides, its off season for you now bro, enjoy yourself. No need to stay in contest shape year round. We all know that you have no problem getting shredded when that time comes for you to step on stage again. Take care.

Which Pumpkin bread was 800 cals? Maybe the cake I made, cant remember, but even if it were 800 cals of lowfat food is different than 800 cals of high fat/cho food. Again, for me its all about da voluuuummmmmeeee.

Wow that Jucy Lucy in one of the most beautiful things I have seen to date. I literally shed a tear for how insanely great that looks. I'm still yet to cook up a Jucy Lucy, my wife is not a fan of medium cooked meat, so it looks like I will be cooking my own Lucy's and making her a regular hamburger..her loss man!
