Any insulin-sensitive bodybuilders here? Post the diet you used to get you in contest shape. Pics would be awesome too!

If you are refering to haing trouble cutting while eating frequent carb meals, try working your carbs in around your workouts and eat them at no other times. Have a 24 hour carb load once a week. Or consider a cyclical ketogenic diet.

I don't think you know what insulin sensitivity is.

If someone is insulin sensitive then they can eat a relatively large amount of carbs and respond favorably.

i don't think you are using the correct terminology. insulin sensitive means your insulin works very well and you tolerate carbohydrates very well.

Agreed. Insulin sensitivity is what bodybuilders want when they eat carbohydrates. High insulin sensitivity usually means eating carbs will have an anabolic effect as nutrients will easily pass into the muscle. I knew what the OP was asking, so I just gave him an answer which would increase his chances of having higher insulin sensitivity when he eats carbs...and hopefully get the best results from eating them.

Hey layne, got a question. (no thread hijack intended)

Is insulin sensitiviy something one can control?

If I'm not mistaken, those who consistently consume excess high GI carbs on a daily basis can become insulin resistant, correct?

So if one were to limit carb intake and eat mostly low GI carbs, would you be able to increase your insulin sensitivity?

You can improve insulin sensitivity by exercising, eating less (especially carbs), and losing fat (insulin sensitivity is improved as bodyfat decreases). Certain supplements also improve insulin sensitivity.

Most bodybuilders have good to excellent insulin sensitivity because they are active and lean.

GI is irrelevant.

more or less, i wouldn't say GI is irrelevent, but I would say it's overrated in most cases, not meaningless, but often very very overstated.

simple ways to increase insulin sensitivity
-workout hard
-high intensity cardio
-high protein intake (within reason)
-increase fiber intake (within reason)
-supplements like lipoic acid, other partitioning agents

LOL the GI is its own debate but I imagine we can agree it's largely irrelevant for healthy, active trainees

if you aren't eating the carbohydrate source alone and having it with protein and you are eating enough total fiber per day, then it not something that needs to be worried about too much really
