Thought I would start a log on my journey to become a career firefighter for the state of Wisconsin's capital; Madison.
Everything started January 24th of this year with the written exam. There were 1600 applicants and 1400 took the exam. It was an excruciating month waiting for the results. I started hearing of a bunch of people getting rejection letters on a Saturday and waited for my letter but it never came. The next Monday, it came. My large manilla envelope...I had made it to the next step.
The written exam knocked down the applicant pool from 1400 to 488.
After some recent motivation, I want to be #1. My training regimen started today with my normal 5x5 program light day.
Squat:
135x5
170x5
215x5
215x5
OH Press (by far my worst lift):
60x5
70x5
80x5
95x5
Deadlift:
160x5
215x5
250x5
290x5
Proceeded to the apparatus bay of my current volunteer dept and donned a SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) and my mask with the goal of bleeding down a 45 minute bottle(4500 psi) as fast as possible.
I went back and fourth between a hammer sled and dummy drags till my low alarm air sounded at 1100 psi and i was panting like a dog.
With my alarm ringing on full blast I grabbed a length of hose and headed up the training tower once and back down. Then it was to the maze: Through the confined space, under downed wires, through a 16in on center stud wall with a 12in vertical clearance, through a 12in on center stud wall and then a sprint to the doors as my air was depleted and I began to suffocate inside my mask.
This is the test I will be taking part in on May 24th:

Made this log really just to keep myself motivated, check in every once in awhile if your interested!
