I have been training since October of 2009 and have not gotten far, thus being an angry and black metal kid.
Stats as of today:
5'11" 151lbs
Might be 6'0 now, either way I'm still really small.
Current PR's:
Squat: 260x5
Bench: 160x5
Deadlift: 275x8
Overhead Press: 95x6
I have been on the same madcows routine since I started well over a year ago, but I don't row on Mondays and Fridays anymore.
I have been trying harder to gain weight lately, and it drives me insane. Just gotta keep working on it.
To keep this log interesting, I will post stories of my day and the insignificant, yet brain killing stress I always endure.

Rants from today: (background story first) I have been trying to get better grades lately so that I can get into college and move away. Well there has been this huge semester long project that the teacher grades our progress on every two weeks or so and has been killing my grade. Today was one of those checks and I am way behind. Needless to say it has been pissing me off.
I have also been recovering from a cold, and during squats tonight I kept coughing up mucus right as I would do my first rep of whatever set I was on. I was also wearing thick sweat pants, making it uncomfortably warm.
I also forgot to charge my damn iPod so I had to listen to whatever pop songs they were playing tonight.
I wanted to go for 265x5 for squats tonight, but because of all of the above I just kept it at 245, which felt a lot heavier than it usually does.
Hoping to set a deadlift PR on Wednesday...

So school is driving me fully insane now. I have to turn in part of that project tomorrow and I'm about a quarter of the way done... not sure how this is going to pan out. I also have 2 big exams tomorrow in different subjects that I'm not feeling confident at all with.
Not gonna be sleeping much tonight.

you should always have some form of protein and carb in ur locker son. my boss is a small fry and sometimes wants to work right thru lunch, so i have protein bars and oatmeal bars on hand

Weighed in this morning the same as last week. I'm actually kind of surprised I didn't lose weight. Can't complain in that aspect I suppose.

When I went to the doctor last July I was 5'11, so it's possible that I am 6' now.

Another log update: It's spring break now, so I'm gonna be working this week with my dad. It's a warehouse so it's a lot of manual labor from 7-4 each day. Despite this, I'm still gonna try to get a squat pr of 265x5 tomorrow.
...and yes this is how I'm going to spend my whole spring break.

Where do I even begin...
First off, I had really bad gas from the insane amount of chili that I ate yesterday. That made work interesting. Then on my lunch break, I stopped autozone to get my alternator/battery checked. Right I pull into the lot, this dude almost backs straight into my car, no idea how I managed to get away quickly enough from that... but I did. Well anyway, it turns out my battery is good but I need a new alternator. Not a huge deal though. Car has still been idling high, and sometimes when I drive it kicks up and starts accelerating when I'm not even touching the pedal at all. Gets pretty scary when sitting at intersections.
So works over, legs and lower back were sore from a long and busy day. Foam rolled and felt a lot better.
I get in the gym and head over to the power rack, of course someone had to leave random weights on the bar, so I stood there for a while waiting to see if anyone was using it... waste of time. Then RIGHT before I start my first set this older guy that is way too loud comes up to me and says something like "HEY ARE YOU JUST STRETCHING OR ARE YOU USING THE POST?"...a post, really? Anyway, I told him I have about 6 sets, he then curses really loudly under his breath and walks away. Towards my second set he comes over and takes random weights off the side of the rack and takes them all the way over to the smith machine... he then does this after every single set I do... I'm getting really annoyed at this point. Then when I'm done he comes over and practically yells, while swinging his arms towards me, "JUST LEAVE THE WEIGHTS ON THE BAR... JUST LEAVE THEM ON" So whatever. I then go on to do dumbbell bench (I would do barbell bench, but I do them in the power rack because no one knows how to spot... and obviously I can't use the rack now.) While I'm benching I look over and see that he's doing POWER CLEANS INTO A MILITARY PRESS... I don't know if his IQ is single digits or what but... mother of god. Not only that but once he had the bar at lockout he was literally bringing it down about 5 inches then pressing it up again... With 135... and was wearing gloves and a belt. Of course he has to scream on every rep and literally slam the hell out of the bar into the ground when he finishes.
What is this I don't even...
Although, at one point during the time that I was there, this one cute girl kind of smiled at me... Not sure if she actually meant to smile towards me though. I'm going to assume she was laughing at me so that I don't develop feelings for a female.

lol... at my old gym there was an old guy who used to do "bench presses" in the smith machine. he'd lie down on the bench, then shrug his shoulders forward and claim it as a bench. never at any point in the movement, does he actually use his pecs. Funny thing about this guy, it seemed that he believed that the smith machine was his territory. He'd flip shiit if anyone took weight from the weight holders on the smith machine.

Same crap, different day.
Log update: I couldn't fall asleep until around 2-3 AM yesterday even though I only got 6 hours of sleep the night before, woke up at 6 AM, worked for 9 hours and then trained hard... Needless to say my sleep schedule got skewed. Also, I didn't work today because the bosses kid came in. My diet was also crappy today because my parents always have to be difficult.
End rant.
I am working tomorrow and plan on deadlifting after. Going for 290x5.

Work wasn't bad today. Got my new stereo shipped in to work today, so that was cool. Found out my car has really bad gas mileage. 16 gallons of gas gave me 190 miles... just under 12 mpg. This isn't a huge deal considering I don't really drive anywhere except gym/work.
Training also wasn't bad either today. I wanted to pull 290x5 but the 2.5lb plates weren't near me so I just loaded on 295. I got 3 reps, didn't try for more than that because my lower back has been kind of sore from work. Then I did deficit deadlifts for the first time ever. Those really suck. First of all it uses a lot more lower back than regular deadlifts (or at least it felt like it because of how sore I was after the heavy 3 rep pull) and second because my knees and inside of my elbows create a ton of friction at the bottom of the movement, which burns really bad.
Next I tried sumo. These felt better and worse. A big thing was that they don't hurt my lower back at all, and it feels that I should be able to use a significant amount of more weight than conventional because I have a really strong lock out and I can get my arms perfectly straight down, as opposed to conventional where I have to put my arms out at an angle no matter how close my feet are together. This is also why there is friction between the inside of my elbow and the outside of my knee at the bottom of the lift. They felt worse because it feels kind of awkward keeping my stance out that wide, though I could try just bringing it in a couple of inches and see how that goes. Another thing was that at lockout, there is an incredible amount of friction between my hands and legs.
But for now, I'm just going to focus on a 315 conventional deadlift first (this has been a goal of mine for a long time now), then start working on my sumo form and hopefully set some huge PR's once I get the hang of it.
Might try for a 305 Parallel box squat on Friday night depending on how I feel.

I started doing a set, but I had not consumed anything in the past 5 hours except for about 1/3 gallon of mountain dew and powerade... my stomache started feeling weird, so I stopped.
Well I finally squatted 2x body weight. Not only that, but it was from a box and below parallel. I think I am going to try for 315 next Friday, so I'm excited for that.
I got about 5,500 calories in today. Food prices are getting ridiculous now. I went to subway on my lunch break today at work, and it costs 9 dollars for a foot long chicken sub with a drink and this small bag of chips. Whatever, just gonna stick to taco bell and wendy's.
Now for the real anger to start stepping in. I made a bad move in saving all my work over spring break for these next two days until school starts on April 4th. It's still that project that I've been working on for what feels like 8 years... Don't even want to think about how much I have to do tomorrow and Sunday. But seriously, who assigns a huge part of a project over spring break?
But on a positive note, I got my stereo installed in my car, and I ordered new speakers for it that should arrive next week. I also found out why it sits at high idle, so my gas mileage should get a lot better.

Forgot to mention that when I weighed in yesterday morning I was 3lbs heavier than I was the week before.
So I actually squatted 4lbs under 2x body weight...

School started back up again today...
Got two of my Math tests handed back from being graded, averaged a 60% on both of them...
I still don't know what the hell I'm doing with this project. I thought I was going insane before, now it's even worse.
And to top it all off I fell asleep after school, making it too late to go to the gym... And I'm not sure what is going to happen now because I have this thing for school that I have to go to tomorrow night, and the dentist Wednesday night...
Isn't life great.

I was abnormally sore/beat up today from squats last night... which is weird because I only did one heavy double. Ran half a mile in gym class. Main things that hurt were back and hips.
Pre workout I had ding dongs and mountain dew because I am awesome. By time I had 185 on the bar for deads, it started to feel heavy. I was somehow able to flip the switch and pull a 10lb PR which felt good... mentally. Physically it took almost everything out of me. I probably took 10 minutes after that set to relax. I was going for 235x8 conventional, but after the second rep I was just too drained. I then went and tried out my sumo form again. I brought my stance in closer a pretty decent amount, and only pulled 235x3 but it REALLY hurt pretty much everything in my groin region.
Then later in the evening I went to this college informative assembly at my high school tonight with my mom. That was painful not only mentally, but also physically because I had to sit there for 2 hours after all the stuff I talked about above occurred.
And yes, school is still not fun.

Squatting 315 wasn't too bad on the first single, but then on the second one, my form was horrible and I barely got it up. Still felt great to hit 3 plates below parallel.
My shoulder/bicep on my right arm got really sore from playing dodge ball today, so it kept shaking during all of my lifts. Got really annoying.
I also had horrible bowel issues today. I was on the toilet for so long today before school that I couldn't make a full lunch for school, or else I would have been late. Also didn't really have an appetite anyway because of how bad my stomach hurt all day. Still got in a little under 4k cals, so that's not bad.
Another rant about school... full draft of the project I've been working on is due on Wednesday. Not cool. Also for math, I studied for a while and felt confident that I would get a really good score, possibly a 100%... of course I didn't know how do a solid 1/4 of the quiz and am not feeling to good about a couple of the other answers I had...

Only had 40 minutes to lift tonight so I had to move quick. Could make a whole list of the annoying people that were there tonight but it pisses me off writing about it.
I'm starting to squat a little bit higher now, but still slightly below parallel, so that I can use more of my hamstrings. I have noticed that whenever I fail a squat, it is because I lean forward... so... critical thinking to the test.
Whats your reason for not liking mixed grip?
You can easily get 325 if you just did mixed.
Less risk of bicep injury when using double overhand, strengthen grip better... just feels more natural in general than mixed grip.

I decided that I wouldn't go to the gym tonight because I had to do my project for school, it took me the entire day, but I actually got it done... 5 page essay in one night...
I lifted at home, which saves a ton of time, but I have horrible equipment. I only have a 15 pound barbell, and limited weight... no rack/bench or anything. I was going to do banded deadlifts but decided that I would do cleans instead since I haven't done them in a very long time. Cleans were pretty much max effort, might be able to do 150 for a 1 rep max.
The overhead press was pretty low... but I didn't really have a pre workout meal or anything so I was really hungry.
But it's no big deal. Going for a box squat PR on Friday.

My grip never fails, even on max attempts, so I just stick with double overhand. Once I starting getting stronger and using heavier weights I might have to used a mixed grip... but we'll see.

Hit PR's on squat and on bench... which is weird because I didn't eat much this week from focusing a lot on school more.
Besides for a lot of stress again today, something pretty cool happened. Well, first background info, I stay in the Chemistry room at school during lunch because I don't like going to the cafeteria with all the overcrowding... so I talk to my Chemistry a lot. We've been talking about colleges these past few days, and it just so happens that he went to the college that I want to go to... and said that he would write me a letter of recommendation to that college if I wanted him to...
That was a good break from the crap storm of life.

I was going to do rows but the people at my gym piss me off so much that I just left.
Of course, as always, there were no open benches to bring over to the rack, so I had to do dumbbell bench... again.
Squat form was really bad tonight, and I'm not sure why. 255 felt extremely heavy, and I was just gonna do 245x5 because of that... but instead I went for a PR and I got 275x4, one rep more than my previous best.
School is starting to get better. I got the highest grade on the chemistry test between all 3 classes in total, so that was pretty cool.
I'm planning on deadlifting 315 on Wednesday, however I might have to run a mile in gym class that day... which always makes my hips feel like garbage... so I'll see how it pans out.

I was planning on deadlifting 315... but I decided it would be better to do higher reps, even though they're not that much higher, because singles and doubles have never really worked for me in terms of getting stronger.
I had a hard time focusing so... I decided to bite my hand to get angry... it worked, at the cost of feeling like an idiot. Then when I was done with the set I noticed my hand was bleeding from it.

Thanks though about the lifts, I've also been trying to make my form more solid which has been helping.

Ok well this was by far the most annoying training session in a very long time...
I always go to the gym at around 7pm, and without warning my mom makes me go to church tonight at that time... which completely messed everything up. I didn't have time to eat a pre workout meal... and messed up post workout nutrition also.
Obviously my strength suffered. Wanted 305x3 squat, but barely got one rep... My entire back was also killing me from Wednesday so I just decided to do a quick few reps with 225 after that.
Then benching... for some reason I can NEVER bench the way I want to and something always messes up. I'm 100% sure my bench would be stronger if it wasn't for this. For example, tonight I wanted to dumbbell bench 60x5 for a few sets... but of course this one dude had to use the 60's for 8 hours straight. Whatever...

Really bad day at school today... trying not to stress out though because I have the ACT test on Wednesday for college.
And of course I didn't eat much this weekend because there's never any food here. Even on Easter, my parents can make a ridiculous amount of things but it's like there's no real food...
Then today, I couldn't make sandwiches for school so all I ate during school was these 2 small granola bars I found in the kitchen.
Because of all this I planned to just squat 245x5... but I realized how lame that would be. I then put 275 on the bar and got a PR with it for five reps. Previous PR's were 265x5 and 275x4. This set felt pretty easy too.
Also my benching strength is right on track again.
How tall are you?
I think I'm 6 foot now, but I might still be 5'11"
Weight is in the lower 150 range.

FINALLY got a military press PR mother of god. Last time I got a pr was in February of 2010... over 50 weeks of training it consistently and it goes from 100x4 to 100x5...
I've did a lot of sumo pulls tonight and I'm seeming to like them more now. I also changed my conventional form just a little bit, by starting with my quads closer to perpendicular with the ground. It helped and also had less stress on my lower back... which... was weird.
Took the ACT test today. The science and math sections were harder than I hoped they would be, but I'm hoping that I got a 28 overall composite score.

It was my first time pulling sumo max effort, well almost max effort. I've pulled sumo before but only with like 225lbs. I think I'm going to do more sumo deads from now on though, they feel a lot better.

Awesome day today. First time driving to the gym with by myself, which let me leave right after school, instead waiting for my parents to come home from work and getting to a gym filled with idiots. There was like 5 people in the weights area when I was squatting, no distractions. I hit a squat and dumbbell bench PR. I also finished in almost half the time that it usually takes me to get everything done. Was maybe 50 minutes total including stretching and everything.
I have been using 275 for squats on Mondays, trying to increase it by one rep every week and it has been effective so far. Went from 275x3 to 275x6. Probably gonna keep doing this until I hit 275x8 and decide which weight to use from there.

And yeah, I like sumo deadlifts. I don't like the word alpha though, because all of the douche bags on this forum over use it. Also if you don't want hip pain, bring your stance in. I only brought my stance in about 3 inches and it helped significantly.

Story time. Before arriving to the gym it was really hot outside today. The air conditioning in my car doesn't work so I put down the windows to make it a little cooler. Well it started raining as I was driving to the gym... so I had to roll the windows up. It got really warm in there and I started getting frustrated, so I gunned it at a left turn and spun out hardcore.
Learned my lesson.
As far as lifting goes, it was my first time ever pulling 315, finally. Only took over a year and a half of training hard...

Set a squat PR tonight. Went from 315x1 to 315x2 in one month... eh, I'll take it.
Then when I was on my last set with 245, as I was coming up with the 8th rep, I hit the rack pins with the bar, causing the bar to bounce backwards, along with my arms. I came very close to getting my hand crushed by the bar onto the safety bars... would have probably gotten injured pretty badly.
So that was exciting.
