View Full Version : Serious question for the ladies. Why...

I hope I'm not intruding in the ladies' forum ;) but I have a serious question for/about women and I'd like to hear their honest answers without putting up with the macho BS I'd get in the other forums.
Anyway, my question is, why do (some) women wear, ummm, revealing? form-hugging? outfits while working out at the gym?
I'm sure they realize that they will likely be drawing extra attention to themselves (above and beyond what would normally occur when the testosterone is pumping). Is this the intended effect?
And by "extra attention" I mean attention from men, in the form of glancing/ staring/ advances, etc.
Is it because such clothing is more comfortable than say, a pair of jogging shorts and a simple t-shirt (and they put up with the extra attn. as a trade-off), or is such clothing really worn to attract attention from men ("advertising" you might say??).
I trust I have not offended anyone with my question, I am just trying to understand gym culture a little more, from a woman's perspective. I don't want to make a faux pas.
Thank you for your time :)

I don't know why some are there to show-off. I'm in the gym to train, and show-off on stage. :D
Don't know how those tight outfits are comfortable to workout in.

i think this answers the general question of why some women wear revealing clothes in any situation.

So do you think it's really done to show off/ get attention?
I ask, because, the ones worn by women at my gym don't look UN-comfortable (I wouldn't know, since I haven't tried cross-dressing :D ), but like I said, they ARE more revealing than a simple tee and shorts, and seem more likely to get you noticed... ??
I mean, if you wouldn't want the men to stare at you , wouldn't a women then choose something more... "conservative?" and not something that would encourage attention?
That's just my impression, I very well could be wrong :dunno:

Some of the more serious girls I know wouldn't be caught dead trying to do stiff deads, etc. in super tight short-shorts. MsFit is right the best time to show is on stage! :)
I believe it is more of an attention-getter than anything else. Plus it is intimidating to other gym members.
Same goes for men in the same type of clothing (and there are actually a few who dare).
My opinion, for what it's worth.

Well, guys who go without shirts, there is no reason for it. The gym is usually cool enough. But they are showing off, probubuly more to the men then the women and I would guess that the women wear those retarded outfits more for other womens benefit aswell. Women are more likely to get comments from other women (I would think) about their body in a gym then they are from men. I have never seen a man go up to a woman in a gym and comment on her "work" but I have seen many women apporach other women. So maybe its just a self esteem thing.

I wear either black or grey jazz pants with a hip length t-shirt over them. I sometimes see women in spandexy bras or halter tops and matching pants or shorts. I have also wondered why lol. Most of them, at least in my gym, seem to be in their own world, like me, and are not looking around to see who's looking at them. Maybe it is more comfortable or cooler. Maybe for some it's motivating to catch a glimpse in a mirror and see your abs and bare arms. I think maybe some wear that stuff because once they get to a certain point in fitness, they might feel they worked hard to get that body and why not wear something more revealing... without it being a sexual thing.
I have also seen one woman who wore something just to get stared at. She and her husband go to the gym about once a week, and she wears semi-see through white pants, with a black thong underneath. Once she sweats, of course you can see right through the pants. She stands at the center desk for a while looking over her chart and exchanges looks with her husband. The whole vibe is icky so I don't think it's an innocent thing.
So I guess when you see a woman dressed in something tight or belly revealing, check out what her attitude is like. Is she just doing her own thing or is she walking past all the treadmills checking to see who's checking her out?

Myself, under my normal jogging shorts, I usually wear an additional pair of bike shorts, but only for support so I don't have to "adjust" myself in public ;) or give an unintentional peep show when doing certain exercises.
But I have NEVER found a pair to be comfortable, because they always seem to creep. So I personally don't understand why some people make spandex outfits their only clothing :dunno:

Mine aren`t revealing, but tighter than they used to be. I`m 65lbs smaller, so I kinda like to show that off. But 9 out of 10 times, my clothes are baggy...

Are you all for real? What people choose to wear to the gym concerns you all that much??? LOL! WOW!
I go to the gym to workout...not attend a fashion show...and could care less what the person next to me is wearing...or NOT wearing.
If you're distracted by something as simple as clothing...or lack there of...well then...you're just not concentrating on your routine hard enough! ;)

What gets me is a lot of the women who are trying to "show off" are at least 50lbs overweight. What the hell are they thinking? Do they really think wearing spandex suddenly makes them HOT? I feel sorry for the poor anorexic people that are in there, 'cause it makes ME want to barf. I can imagine what THEY'RE going through......

Part of it may depend on the culture of the particular gym. Where I go, virtually all the women under 30 (and close to the right weight) wear the halter tops, jogbras, or tank tops with matching shorts, etc. I never thought anything of it because that is what I was used to. My wife even started dressing like that to fit in. The guys also "dress up." I guess the best way to describe it is the way they present workouts in a magazine like Muscle & Fitness. Incidentally, none of the stuff is overtly sexy, but it is not like the picture posted by Gracious either.

I do believe some "over 50" pounds types wear tighter clothing as an incentive.
When I started out, I wore baggy sweats and a XL teeshirt that hid everything as I was one of those "over 50" pounder "pears". But afterwhile, I wanted to see the changes. So I started wearing walking shorts and sleeveless "tees". As soon as I found I could wear Large Tees without looking overly tight, I started wearing That size. I never had broad hips nor a big butt and always had good legs, so was never worried about that. But my back, shoulders, upper arms and, especially, my stomach were the worse parts.
My shorts waist size was getting smaller and even my stomach was finally flattening down so I did not look "pregnant". Had two ceasareans, really messed up the muscles there...so I know that will take some time before all the fat will go.....but its' getting there. (Been losing fast enough to produce some loose skin too and that will take time to draw back.) Could even wear a Sports bra and have some shape up there....and that has not happened in quite a while.
True, this is self image and there is nothing like pushing yourself further than to see that image getting better.
In my women's strength class gym, we have all types and the wearing of spandex by some and looser clothing by others. But no one is trying to "show off" or "put down" anyone else because of body shape. Out here in the Arizona SW, it is Summer.......just trying to stay cool while working out.
The only time I see "spandex" being worn to "show off" is when the weekenders from LA come to the Colorado River to get "broasted to a turn". We locals....know better.

I wear tight athletic tank tops for support and they are cooler than a cotton t-shirt. I also wear tight pants as well. I feel comfortable in it. I am not there to have everyone stare at me. I like seeing my muscles contract properly (keeps me motivated).

Personally I prefer to wear as little as possible (with taste I have a man and I'm not out looking for some otherwoman's man like so many of those "other" gym girls) to work out. Part of it is because I am very proud of the way i look especially after weighing 165 pound (at 5'1") when I had my son. So I llike to get looks it makes me feel good. But the biggest reason I wear what I wear is beacause i like the way my body is finally starting to look. All the hard work is paying off and I enjoy looking in a mirror and seeing the definition I have.

I am very comfortable wearing a jog style bra top and tight shorts in the gym. I sweat and I really prefer wearing as little as possible without offending. It truly has nothing to do with getting or wanting attention. When I am lifting, I pay no attention to others and I expect the same. Baggy clothes tend to bind me during cardio and the sweaty shorts start to cling to my legs. Make fun of those wearing little clothes but trust me it's a comfort thing. Like wearing a bikini in 90 degree heat on the beach. A little style and a lot of comfort.
Be careful with "jogging shorts". They can reveal much more than tight spandex. Men and women apply.

I do not mind to see ladies wearing thong or whatever to the gym cause it makes my testosterone higher. It makes me do more reps or set. They workout very hard then they have to show what they got except those FAT ASS that want to wear tight tops or spandex. Honestly they should be given warning for wearing clothes that makes my testosterone lower.

Aaaaamen. Bra tops are perfect for cardio workouts because I get very sweaty, sometimes to a point at which I drip on the machine. When I lift, I like to wear athletic tank tops with shorts or slinky jazz pants. This sort of clothing fits comfortably, and there's no baggy extra fabric to get in the way.
I also agree with the people who like to dress fashionably because they're proud of how they look. Cartman says it best: "I have a nice body, and I want to show it off. Beefcake...beefCAAAAAAKE!" :D

LOL. I seriously get distracted by fat people though. Not when Im doing my stuff, when Im resting in between sets, I will casually look around and you do notice this stuff. The whole "Scene". How some women cant stop looking at other people when they do their reps, how some people dress....men or women. Freaky guy in the corner who keeps staring at me. Im human, Ill admit.
I have to dissagree with the idea that tightys are in any way fashionable though. Im speaking more from a spandex perspective, I wear tanks and sports bras from time to time if its too warm, but not very often. Because this thread gives me visions of this one girl that goes to one of the gyms I do, she wears this 80's like workout suit. With the leggings and the bathing suit like top. Absolutley hysterical. You cant NOT stare, and I think thats what she is going for.

regardless of what an attractive, fit female may be wearing, men will notice. wearing less at the gym is not an invitation to gawk, talk or stare. Wearing revealing workout wear is simply a personal choice and no one should make any judgments on why that person made that choice. Big,small, fat and skinny we all, thank God, have the freedom to wear whatever we choose. Personally, I could care less about what someone is wearing. Even if they are large, I commend them for feeling comfortable in there body.
If men think women wear cute, hot workout wear for them they are fooling themselves.

When I"m at the gym I'll ,mostly wear 'little tops' .. because for me, yes they are more comfortable, especially when doing arms. But I don't wear shorts .. I'll wear the biggest, baggiest pants you've ever seen, (well maybe not the biggest) and be very comfortable. I need the mobility when I'm doing my workouts.
However there are some women there that just don't think like I do .. scary!

Hmm I am torn. While I myself at times wear less to "watch" my muscles work especially on bakc/chin days an dwork on psoing in mirrors. unfortunately with a tshirt and sweats on I cannot see the muscles contracting correctly.
Where I live I do not have any good mirrors so I rely on the gym ones BUT I prefer an empty gym. Just mostly due to I do nto want to seem like I am showing off. Other times I am WAY too busy focusing on my workout to worry about the attention I may or may not be drawiing to other members.
I can say over here in Iraq it is DAMN hot in the gym!! Back home usually much cooler. I will admit when I do SLDL I do try to wear loose shorts or sweats and Turn my ..um.. rear..away from the most in the gym just so I do not seem like I AM advertising or something..

I dress pretty skimpy in the gym for three reasons:
1. I get hot easily and I don't want to be dripping sweat
2. I like to see the muscles I am working - it motivates me
3. I've worked very hard to get where I am and I'm proud of my shape
I'm not doing the thong thing, but I'll wear as little as I think I can get away with - bra top and shorts that hug the curves. I don't see why that should bother anyone else, though. Shrug!

I think it's a personal choice. I like to wear little stretchy shorts, and a tee or tank top. When I have more definition in my stomach, I will definitly be wearing a sports bra. It's cooler, and I like to also "watch" my muscles while working out. And if I'm feeling proud and confident of my body, why is it wrong to want to "showcase" it?
I don't dress that way to get attention from guys. I go to the gym to train, not attract men. That's what clubs and nights out on the town are for.

I always wear tracksuit pants and a singlet top when im doing weight training, as some of the positions you get into are not the most flattering to be in if you are wearing shorts.
However If I am doing cardio id rather wear bike shorts and a singlet top.
This ensemble I find is the most comfortable thing I can wear. I dont give a crap if someone stares at me, Im adult enough to deal with it. Plus if they are good looking it makes me happy and gives me even more of an incentive to work harder.
As for other women dressed in skimpy clothes I think many would do it as a comfort factor. It is not comfy wearing sleeves in the gym or tracksuit pants, nof for me anyway. I like freedom of movement and I hate feeling overheated.
Amifit
11-26-2004, 11:11 AM
I probably dress closer to the skimpy side of the spectrum. I wear a tank top with fitted and fairly short shorts, or yoga pants in the winter. I go with lycra or cotton, depending on the training day. I would never go to the gym in just my bra.
I find loose clothes just ride up in the wrong places and get all twisted. I like knowing that my clothes are going to stay where they should and won't disctract me flopping around.
Of course, these outfits show off my body, but I have worked hard at it and am proud of what I look like. To be 100 % honest, I do get a bit smug looking at the once-a-month-tradmillers in their baggy (if we're lucky) outfits. Most of these women look at me with disbelief, but I hope maybe one or two will be more motivated.
I think I may have an opposite effect on most of the male gawkers: They see my muscles and know that I am serious about my workouts, so they tend to leave me alone. Only the occasional man (usually older) will come up and make a comment, but it's usually about my training intensity, not my ass. Of course, what they're actually thinking, I can't say. :)

i also really can't stand an elastic waist gotta be below belly button (all my clothes not just for the gym)
i only wear a men's y'back tank over if i am using my belt and i find the baggy material very annoying when i work out
it has nothing to do with showing off i have worn short to the gym since th day i started when i was 70 lbs overweight

Most of the time I wear a bra top with a loose tank over it with tight short-Not to show off but doing certain exercises loose shorts reveal way more than anyone is suppposed to see. If its cold-sweats and teshirt work great. Has nothing to do with showing off or being revealing for me. I am there to workout thats it.

<"I've seen a couple of posts against spandex, etc. in the gym and I kind of hate to admit, but I wear spandex pants and an athletic top almost every day.
I'm getting pretty muscular & preparing for competition trying to build more and I hate working out in a baggy t-shirt & baggy shorts for the simple reason that I want to see what I'm working. I like to get my muscles pumped up and practice poses in between sets to see what they look like. I can't see much if I'm all covered up in fabric. I want to see the definition, shape, size, what I'm going to look like onstage, etc. Do people really have a problem with that?
I see men and women both in different types of dress at the gym. Guys wear spandex & ripped muscle shirts while some wear baggy clothes. There are some obese women wearing tight spandex while others wear baggy clothes. And then you'll see the occasional really buff chick in a catsuit or something. I mean, to me, it's just a matter of personal preference and what you're comfortable working out in.
In the gym I'm serious and in my own world doing my own thing and don't really pay attention to who is "looking". And to be honest, I don't really care if some guy across the room is thinking, "hey that chick looks pretty good." The only time I'm annoyed is when someone actually comes up to me and gets in my business making some dumbass remark. But, I hate to think that I'm offending someone if I'm wearing CoolMax shorts and a sports bra.">
I posted this on another thread because I had seen several posts about dress. I guess a lot of it also has to do with where you live. I live in FL, my gym is on the beach and it is pretty warm here. People go to the grocery store in swimsuits. So, I think it's a little less "out of place" to wear a sports bra or spandex in my gym. I also, quite often, see women wearing jogging shorts on the hamstring curl machine or doing ball crunches and I can see up their shorts (maybe they are trying to attract men). I guess that's another reason why I opt for spandex. It may be form fitting, but it doesn't show my bare ass when I bend over.

The thing about loose shorts is....when you're stretching or doing cardio....nice view? oopsie? I wear loose t-shirts, except sometimes when running or biking outside in the summer I prefer a tank top because I can't stand having that sweaty material hanging all over me. As for the bottoms.....if I'm wearing pants, I've also grown to detest the extra material around me when I'm hot. Since our whole culture is laced with tight and revealing really don't see the big deal of what people wear in the gym. Personally, I'd never wear just a sports bra. Especially because it's too damn cold until you've warmed up!
And this whole thread seems to be "much ado about nothing" :D

You obviously know nothing about women.....Having several sisters and female friends, it is true that some do that to get attention, but a lot are just self-conscience about how they look, which is why they goto the gym in the first place. Also, whats wrong with them wanting to look nice, even if they are just working out. If it makes them feel better about themselves then whats the big deal? Being a guy, i'm not one to complain. Also, calling them "attention whores" is an unfair generalization. And even if some do try to get a little attention, it doesn't mean that they are not there to still seriously work out.

you know, I have NEVER seen attention whores at the two Y's I go too. I have seen younger girls and middle-aged women dress in skimpy outfits and maybe get nowhere in 1 or 2 years time, or maybe get somewhere, but I have seen them all concentrate on THEIR workouts. Some obviously work harder than others but I have never seen any female there that I got the impression that she was there to show off.
Those who workout in the middle of the day or in the evening tend to have makeup on from their workday.
But, sorry, they aren't there to look good for you. If they look good, they already know it.

I tried to find an all male gym, but there isn't one in my area.
It's truly distracting. I go there to workout and want to do my routine...
Then I see a curvy beau femme pushing those lying leg curls to the max, sweating and pushing oh so hard those last few reps...
So the 19 year old monkey full of testosterone just goes to the drinking fountain hoping the hump is not too visible...
And most of the girls seem to go there to just workout. I hate it when someone interrupts my routine, I don't wanna to the same.

I agree. The ladies who use them at my gym wear a leotard on top and that looks OK. We only have one guy who wears them at our gym, and I rather not talk about him. ;)
Usually I just wear a t-shirt/tank over a sports bra and bike shorts or a biketard. As a dancer, I still wear leotards for class/practice, so it feels natural (and comfortable) for me to wear leotards. When I wear one in the gym (usually because I'm coming from a dance class but not always) it's always underneath at least a t-shirt and leggings so I won't get ogled. The only exception to this rule is when I workout during girl-only hours (happens once a week, no guys allowed so ogling's not possible) Sometimes THEN I'll wear a leotard over a pair of bikeshorts and only so I can check my lifting form in the mirror.

I wear tight athletic tank tops for support and they are cooler than a cotton t-shirt. I also wear tight pants as well. I feel comfortable in it. I am not there to have everyone stare at me. I like seeing my muscles contract properly (keeps me motivated).
me too.

Is it because such clothing is more comfortable than say, a pair of jogging shorts and a simple t-shirt (and they put up with the extra attn. as a trade-off), or is such clothing really worn to attract attention from men ("advertising" you might say??).)
I think your question is fairly assuming, and a little sexist. I see plenty of men who wear tight sleeveless Ts and shorts that are higher than they might normally wear outside of the gym. The outline of their bodies and their muscle tone (or lack thereof) is very apparent. What are you saying here about women wearing "form-hugging" clothing?
If a woman doesn't want to go to the gym wearing a tent - to look at her muscles working in the mirror, because she finally feels comfortable in a tight shirt after losing 15lbs, to catch the eye of that cute guy she always sees there on Wednesday mornings at 7am, or whatever - then she must be looking for "it"?? WTF.
Why should I make myself intentionally look unattractive or wear something I'm uncomfortable in because some man doesn't know how to control himself? If I'm at the gym and I'm wearing a "form-hugging" shirt, it doesn't mean I'm turning over my rights not to be ogled, approached, or made to feel uncomfortable in any way. The way you phrase this question seems to imply a justification for this kind of behavior.
I mean, I get that someone who goes to an all male lifting gym in a string bikini could probably benefit from examining where she's acquiring a sense of self-esteem - and you don't need the go-ahead from us to stare at her a$$. But more importantly, WHO CARES? Are you there to work out, or are you there to watch the Dog and Pony Show? If you're there for the latter, then anyone who walks by and gets your blood pumping is going to appear to you to be "advertising," as you so sophisticatedly stated.
Let me flip the question on you, and ask why you think it's okay for men to gawk at and make advances on a woman at the gym because she's wearing tight clothing?

I hope I'm not intruding in the ladies' forum ;) but I have a serious question for/about women and I'd like to hear their honest answers without putting up with the macho BS I'd get in the other forums.

I trust I have not offended anyone with my question, I am just trying to understand gym culture a little more, from a woman's perspective. I don't want to make a faux pas.
Thank you for your time :)
interesting question - and valid - however, why is it that people seem to assume that if a woman dresses a certain way, she's doing it for men?
maybe she just felt good about herself that day. maybe she likes looking at herself in the mirror. maybe she does it for other girls.

I got the impression that the question was asked honestly. I see no problem with asking a question that you really just want to know the answer to, especially if it a subculture thing.
Anyway, before I started working out at home, I would wear form-fitting cotton-lycra shorts (whatever length wouldn't ride up), and a tank top, cut high enough that I wouldn't be embarassed to bend over. This was for comfort, for preventing chafing, and so that I wouldn't have to worry about loose clothes catching on equipment.

I have to agree with the posters that said who cares what others wear to the gym.
I wear whatever happens to be clean & in my gym bag - tshirt & loose shorts or tanktop & lycra shorts.
The more form fitting outfits do allow you to see your progress and observe that you are indeed working the muscles you intend to work. I've been lifting so long I can pretty well concentrate on what muscles I intend to do the work, but it's still good to "see" them work.
But I spent many years running around in a bikini playing doubles volleyball. I was comfortable in it and didn't wear it for "attention" seeking, it was what we wore to play in. There were the occasional "gawkers" but normally a quick look of disgust and/or a middle finger got rid of them, or mabybe it was my bulging muscles. (Yeah right!!!)

Some women like to look their best and wear what THEY like and think they look/feel good in. That men look isn't necessarily the woman's concern or thought. (Although for some women they enjoy the attention, even though they may not be looking for male interaction by wearing such things...)
Form fitting clothes *are* more comfortable for many women to work out in simply because the extra fabric doesn't get in the way.
What do you consider 'revealing'? "form fitting" IMO does not equal 'revealing'. Now if she's oozing out of it like it's painted on- or if it's cut so low that her nipples are about to pop out, OK- that's a little weird and inappropriate (What Not To Wear- episode 1509.. ;) Otherwise- methinks the testosterone may be just getting the better of ya and don't be so concerned with what the ladies are wearing. Unless women in your neck of the woods are wearing ALOT less than any of 'em around here LOL! ;)

Yeah, bump... I don't wear what people would consider "revealing clothes" in a sense that they're not "girly", but they ARE tight and DO show a lot. I specifically do it for 2 reasons:
1) When I stand in front of a mirror to do my bb rows, for instance, a baggy shirt and pants wouldn't reveal much about the curve of my back and general form. I like to check that out from time to time and if what I see is a huge blob of a shirt, I won't see anything useful.
2) Tight clothing are... tight. Meaning, there's no flailing cotton T-shirt that I'll tangle my barbell into while rowing, or hook the bar while cable/barbell curling, and nothing will get in the way of the V-gripper while cable rowing.
And my pet hate: tangle up in the T-shirt while dead lifting or upright rowing.
If you look at professional athletes of any sport (minus some forms of snowboarding, skateboarding etc), they all took up to wearing tight clothes because of this (and aerodynamics, but that's another story).
3) I started out my healthy lifestyle at 85+ kg, and hardly any muscle mass. The clothing I wear now, wouldn't have fit over my head, let alone anything else, at that time. I've worked hard and heavy for what I have now, and when in the gym, I like to see my muscles move while I work out, and take pride in the results I have. I don't flex in front of the mirror like teeny boys do, but I like to enjoy the sight of what I have achieved through all the effort and sweat. I paid for the membership, it's my right, even if it might look stupid at times! ;)
I also agree with breathingsky. What, do you think the sight of male muscle in those tight shirts you guys wear to the gym doesn't make ME lose my concentration sometimes? But that doesn't mean I'll act like an idiot and go bother the guys.

I think we also have to look at what is being marketed. Look at your local department in the athletic clothing section and you'll see a big reason for what women are wearing or open any one of the many fitness magazines on the rack. Again, you'll see what the latest fashion is at the gym. This is just like looking in any glamour magazine for the latest fashion trends. Twenty years ago I can remember what that trend was at the gym and I really hope that trend never comes back!!! Perhaps, some of you may remember the spandex thong bottoms over tights and matching sport bras...yikes!

This is actually a really good point. I hadn't considered it from this perspective, but I think this is also true.

("you" in a general sense, no-one specifically)
Maybe they just like to see there muscles they are working hard for , if they are.. Same reason I guess men wear wife beaters...

What i can't believe is that some people on this forum said bigger girls should cover up, damn!!!
isn't it good enough that someone is trying to get healthy without telling them they shouldn't show any part of their body for fear of offending other people at the gym.
Personally when i go to the gym i get hot and i sweat and i want to wear as little as possible, if people want to look then so be it as long as i am comfortable.
I find loose shorts ride up my butt when i am jogging so i prefer something more form fitting, looking good has zip to do with it, its all about comfort

Bump to that!
Are you all for real? What people choose to wear to the gym concerns you all that much??? LOL! WOW!
I go to the gym to workout...not attend a fashion show...and could care less what the person next to me is wearing...or NOT wearing.
If you're distracted by something as simple as clothing...or lack there of...well then...you're just not concentrating on your routine hard enough! ;)
Bump to that too!
LMAO!
Bring on the lesbians! ;)
(Terribly sorry, just couldn't resist.) :D

Indeed!! *oops...did I just say that out loud?!!!* ;) :D
I personally wear what is most practical for me which is usually a pair of shorts and a tight crop top. There is nothing more annoying than loose clothing getting caught on barbells and dumbells in the middle of a set.
Now that I train at home again (after years of working in gyms), I can wear whatever I want which is usually a bodysuit.

This topic is too subjective for an answer. I get attention simply being in the same room as guys lifting weights.
It doesn't even occur to me if I'm being watched because, quite frankly, I'm too busy getting in my workout, and getting out!

Ok, I work out at home now, so it doesn't matter, but I when I did work out in a gym I wore spandex.
If I wear loose baggy clothing I feel lazy and sleepy. I like to see my muscles when I work out, it is motivating. I don't like clothing getting in the way (possibilities of shirts catching on things, or my tshirt bunching up under the bar when I squat).
So I wear spandex shorts and a spandex tank, and I couldn't care less what anyone thinks (except my husband).
