hey, I've lost about 7 pounds since I started on this website last month.. quick calorie question though.

my maintenance calories are about 2250 so subtracting that would be about 1700s calories, however I was eating about 1500 and then cut it down to 1400 just to speed up process and such...

just wondering if thats too low for me? i'm 5'7, workout 4-5 days a week, 150lbs, 21 years old. i haven't felt hungry with these calories and I usually eat 4 meals a day.. every 2 1/2-3 hours. any comments would help a lot.

basically, i want my metabolism to be working as fast as possible and read that cutting calories will slow it down some...

I agree, too low. Especially if you're training several times a week. You might feel OK now, but in the long term I'm willing to bet your energy levels will suffer.

Well, have you still been consistently losing weight? Has cutting your calorie intake to 1400 sped up your weight loss? Let the results guide you.

i cant say the pounds have been melting up but there are definite results i was doing a ton of cardio, not as much weights but after lots of reading i cut my cardio to 2 , maybe 3 days a week (literally just did this so i cant really say for sure how i've responded) and weights 3 times a week.

i haven't felt hungry at all with 1400... but with the kelchan or w/e formula my maintenance came out to 2060 so cutting from there would be about 1500-1600 so as long as i'm hovering between 1400-1600 i should be good i think.

basically the thing i am most concerned about is my metabolism. i just dont want to get to my ideal weight and then start gaining when i resume eating at maintenance. this might just be a psychological thing for me but i would rather my body not get used to burning only 1400 a day and then not be able to go over that.. not sure if this makes sense?

but i have been consistently losing weight

Absolutely this!

It's not too low if you are fine with it.

Your body never gets used to a certain caloric intake. As you lose weight, your body will need less calories from maintenance roughly proportional to the amount you have lost.

Under extreme starvation conditions, people bodies become slightly more efficient, but recover this after starvation ends.

That's the extent of base metabolic changes that will happen from any research I have seen.

I completely agree with this too, to a certain extent. If you start to see a plateau, you may need to increase the cals back up a bit so that your body knows it is being fed and can release the fat instead of holding onto it.
