Hey everyone, I'm a 16 year old female and i just started weightlifting about a month ago to strength train for my volleyball, cheerleading, and track seasons. But now, i've come across some magazines with articles on women fitness competions and i'm kinda thinking maybe that might be fun to get into and change my goal to building muscle mass instead. What steps do i need to take to get into the sport (training, entering competitions...) Or is this way out of my range considering my age and lack of earlier lifting experience? Is it a realistic goal for someone with an average body type like mine? (i'm 5'7 and 118lbs...muscular legs and flat stomach but not a whole lot of muscle definition anywhere else) Or is it possible for me to work at building up a figure for myself? I'd appreciate any information anyone could offer...

You might want to check out the Figure Contest to get started. It will help you get on stage and to further decide if you want to persue fitness or bodybuilding. The NPC, National Physique Committee has good contests with the Figure Division. www.npcnewsonline.com is the site....I think....

StoneAngel,
You can accomplish anything you are willing to work for. You're only 16, go for it!

5'7" and 118lbs is pretty nice figure wise already (if my mental picture is correct)
so you should be able to do well body wise I dunno about possing or whatever
