DAY 1

Good Mornings: 45x10, 75x3, 125x3, 150x3, 165x1, 185x1(pr)
Pull-throughs using a 35lb plate: 35x10, 35x10, 35x10
Laying ham curls: 80x10, 90x5, 100x5
Straight leg raises: 5 sets of 15


i was suossed to do reverse hypers and glute-ham raises
but my gym is unequipped and I was unable to find anything to use :(

so i sub'd the curls and pulls for it
the pulls also simulated keg toss which is good for my strongman trainin :)

Lookin' good, BPP. :) Yeah, I've found that glute-hams and reverse hypers are usually only found in those gyms that specialize in PLing or have PLing teams and the like. :( Kinda sucks, cause the glute-ham raise is an excellent exercise.

I'm not the man to ask in this case. :( Sorry, BPP. The gym I went to last summer had those two pieces of equipment, because they had a PL team and it was run by a former PLer, but the people in charge of the Purdue gym probably wouldn't know a reverse hyper if it came up and stuck 45 lb plates up their asses.

DAY 2:
ME Bench


We were SWAMPED with calls this morning at the fire department so I ddint have a chance to go get and make my boards, so I did rack lockouts instead from a few inches above my chest

Bench lockouts: 45x10, 95x3, 125x3, 155x3, 185x3, 205x2(45-60sec rest bet. sets)

SKullcrushers: 35x10, 45x10, 55x10(45 seconds between sets)

Pushdowns: 70x10, 90x10, 110x10(45 seconds bet. sets)

wasnt a great day
but i was kinda sore in the lats and such from the pullthroughs yesterday, plus with my busy day on calls I didnt get much to eat today
hopefully thur's workout goes better :cool:

were the good mornings you did on your me squat day straight or bent legged? ive been doing bent-legged for my minicycle but i don't think i have been doing them right because i got up to 230 the other day for 1 but i can only squat around 330. anyway i do glute hams on a lat pulldown machine. you can get a rope attachment and hold onto that with weight or with no weight if you fell like you are going to fall at the bottom. i do reverse hypers on a hyper bench but i just lay on it backwards and hold onto the leg holds. i put a dumbell in between my feet and hold it there. i know these are pretty raggedy ways to do those exercises but im just trying to get by. hope this helps, later.

the good mornings were stiff legged

I looked at the lat pulldown, it just didnt seem like both knees would fit on the bench without fallin off the side

and interesting way on the rev hypers
il look at it
it just didnt look tall enough to fully lower legs without hittin ground

ill check tomorrow :)

yeah i'm pretty short (5'4") so that is probably one reason why i can get a full extension. if you workout with a partner you could do glute/hams on the ground by having your partner hold your feet and if necessary hold a rope hooked on the cable crossover over your head if you think you are going to fall near the bottom. if you don't have a partner try just hooking your feet under something sturdy. try these and maybe you'll get some use out of one of them. good luck and keep pumping.

All exercises today done with 45-60sec between sets


DE squat day


Box squats: 45x10, 135x2, then 10 sets of 185x2

Zercher squats: 45x10, 70x5, 90x5, 115x5, 135x5(PR)

BB shrugs: 185x15, 185x15, 185x15


notes:

-box was roughly parallel..had to work with whats available

-was my first time doin Zerchers..loved them..were done to well below parallel

-zerchers will be an AWESOME exercise to train me for the COnan's wheel, as the grip and placement on and of the bar is the same :)

thx bro :) hopefully be hella stronger in 8 more weeks ;)


yeah, they get a pretty good sweat goin, and I use them as practice for Keg Toss in strongman...so I go way back with them, then try ansd explode up, makin sure to squeeze the glutes on the way up

usually lats are a bit sore the next day too
so they have multiple benefits :)

i mean
theyre not a killer like squats
but IMO they work ok

good workout
good sweat goin :)


got my tire today too...its only like 150 or 200lbs
butwill be good to train speed/endurance/technique on :)

OK ive been slackin this week

FRIDAYS WORKOUT:

SPeed bench: 45x10, 95x5, then 10 sets of 135x3, 45-60seconds between sets

Zercher Squats: 45x10, 95x5, 115x5, 135x5, 155x5, 185x3, 200x1(PR by 65lbs)

Bicep curls, alternating straight and cambered bars: 45x10, 55x10, 65x8, 85x5

all in all
good workout
VERY happy with the ZS
hurt on the forearms, but as I learned to accept in Stongman, Its only pain

Was supossed to go to low box squats today, ddont have a low box, so did regular squats instead

Squats:45x10, 95x5, 135x3, 185x3, 215x3, 235x1, 275x1(PR!!!)


18" DL: 135x5, 225x3, 275x1, 335x1, 385x1

Push Press, 1st rep cleaned: 95x10, 115x5, 135x5

Ab pulldown crunches: 70x15, 90x15, 110x15(PR)

new squat PR i was hella excited..been wantin to squat all weekend lol
the weight felt heavyon my back but light goin down and up
loved it :)
Now I am feeling GREAT that I WILL hit 300 by the end of this program!!!!

currently now: bench: 215, squat: 275, DL 375, T: 865
goals: bench: 235, squat: 300, DL 400, T: 935

was out on that from 5pm->now(midnight)

soworkout tomorrow and make today the off day

todays workout was good...had to change up order due to ppl in way, but good workout..lots of hot girls in the gym today too

they were heavier feelina bit today
hadnt done em ina few weeks
plus bent over alot farther to try and concentrate it more
but still got the 3 sets of 185x5, so i was happy :)

also, my EMT class final is thursday so i gotta study for that

well
didnt get to gym today
spent the morning
1)on a fire call
2) washing and waxing our Tanker truck for the parade friday
3) at the vet with the dog getitn her shots, etc

spent the afternoon
1)at work
2) on 2 seperate firecalls
and now for about the 6th time since I got the car(new in 2001), my driver side window randomly decided it would go down and not come back up
so I cant go to the gym bc anyone can reach in my wide open driverwindow

was gonna see T3 tonight to..not anymore


plus I get to study for tomorrow's EMT final which i am COMPLETELY stressed over

i WAS lookin at doin a bench/DL contest next saturday i found out abt yesterday
o well, not anymore

HELLYEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


went to my EMT final all worried....needed 80% to pass the class(mandatory score on final)....

i scored a god damned 90 and passed
went out, used a gift card from bday and got a KICK ASS Digital Camera
then went to the gym, broke my god damned Deadlift record!!!


Deadlifts: 135x5, 225x3, 315x1, 365x1, 385x1(PR), 405x1(30lb pr!)!!!!!!

Straight BB curls: 50x8, 65x6, 80x5, 100x3(PR)

AWESOME night
just went to the gym
said to myslef, imgonna break my god damned Deadlift record tonight
and I DID! YEAH!

Congrats on the DL PR!

I just wish I could stop dropping from 305 to 295 every time I take a week off, because it takes me most of the damn cycle to get back up.

Today was a good workout, except I went to put a 25away and got it caught between a falling 25 and a 45 :( Nails a bit bruised and sore, but should be ok

Benches with doubled minis(bands): 45x10, 95x5, 125x5, 125x5, 135x5, 135x5

JM press: 45x10, 65x5, 95x5, 125x3, 135x3

Cleans: 45x10, 95x8, 135x5

Incline DB: 30x10, 50x10

Straight Leg Raises: 2 sets of 15

Tried bands for1st time with squats

Squats: 95x10, 95x5(single mini), 95x5(doubled mini), 95x5(doubled mini, but lowered the bottom a bit so it was tighter), 115x5doubled,145x5(doubled), 165x5(doubled), 215x2doubled, 235x2doubled

18"DL 135x20

Seated Leg Curl 80x20, 100x10

pull down abs 80x10, 100x15, 110x15, 130x10(pr)

notes:
Lower back was sore, so seated leg curls were put in instead of 20 rep 18" DL's and plate pullthroughs. Think its still mad at me for doing most of the work on the 405DL, plus I had to lift while bent over today on the ambulance to pick up backbooards with patients on them so we could get the tape under them to secure their head.

Bands worked well, could really feel em work at the top...im lovin em already! Along with the stares I get :D

Feeling VERY MUCH more confident I will hit my 225 or 235 at least next month. Bench will probably see the least raise of the big 3 PR's, but as long as it goes up!!! Also, the form clicked today..worked hard to get some arch, tight through the body, a good pause, leg drive, and use my breathing. Everything came together about 3rd set of bench, and after that 135 was a joke! VERY VERY HAPPY about that! First time Ive felt like I had a 100% correct bench thruout my whole body!!! :cool:

Everything came together about 3rd set of bench, and after that 135 was a joke! VERY VERY HAPPY about that! First time Ive felt like I had a 100% correct bench thruout my whole body!!! :cool:

Very nice Proppy, you are making some very good progress. 225 to 235 is yours without a doubt. I would go for 240, make the stakes higher lol. Nice close grip as well. A 15 lb PR is awesome.

Came down with the 190, paused, and it just easily went back up..whats sad is my CG probably coulda matched my bench PR as of right now today LOL!!! I think that sayas something about where my weakness in the bench is!!

Was cool..lots of big guys around today, 2 reppin out 315, etc...not PL'ers, but THICK THICK weightlifters..god some props and respect from them..was awesome :)

Like you said, breathing, technique, it all has its purpose. Maybe your adreneline kicked in with those big guys pounding away aswell. Ill come over on max day and hit 315 about 4 times on the bench to get you going bro! Youll nail a nice PR. The skys the limit!!!

Went to my gym, 9:20..they close at 10..guy said were closing...called him a dickhead and drove to their rival gym(whos open til 11) and paid 10 to workout

its a normal hammer(i think)
you sit, each hand has a seperate handle to grab onto

I just like the way its designed
the angle the weights come down at is good, the lat pulldown machines we have at golds are ****ty, and tend to hurt my shoulders when i use them, so I dont

so didit like them
just sat down, then exploded right back up
really worked at exploding up


woulda gone heavier but they dont have any boxes or flat benches u can move around at that gym
so I used an incline bench bc it was movable, and the seat part went flat, so if I went too far back I hit inlcine...was very awkward, so I got my heavy single and left happy :p

Where to start...everything is beginning to click...Form is beginning to become habit, and click very easy...I've found the position I love my feet, hands and bar on the squats....and I FINALLY got the 18"DL down pat so I use alot of legs(they were quite sore after those lol!)..and the pull down abs I can really feel them working

I can tell this program is goiung well, as my strength has gone thru the roof..I can tell now..I feel stronger and bigger daily

ALMOST got 300on the box squats..got halfway back up and just couldnt lock it, first time ive had 300lbs on ym back though
I REALLY think Ill go for 300 on max day on squats and give it a pretty good chance..as my 280box squat is now HIGHER than my regular squat of 275 LOL!!!

Also the 18"DLs were done with no wrsit straps, so I was very happy with my grip strength.

Also my spotter on the 280box squats told me, wow, you made that look EASY!
I didnt take a very long break(was pretty empty..hard finding spotters, took it when I could)between sets, so I think id have gotten 300 if I had another min or 2 to rest

ALL exercises were done with 30-45 seconds rest...I think I lift heavier with less rest...better toweards 30 than 60even!

MAN im excited to lift every day now!!
i CANT WAIT FOR MAXOUT WOOHOOO!!!!

but idid have to work..which gets my legs a bit

esp bc we had to move the pianoacross the building
and the leg is weak so we had to carry it
so theyre like your the strongest, you get the heavy end and get to walk backwards

I DID get my BENCH SHIRT in the mail this week and tried it on, did a few reps on bench with my 180lb friend since gym was closed then :)

-zerchers 185x3 was a 3RM, 200x1 is old 1RM
-205 on GM was a tie of my PR, but felt MUCH better this time...was done with MUCH better form! COulda prolly done 225, but didnt wanna overdo it after my week off =)
good workout, the zerchers then the 20rep 18"dl killed me..wanted to do heavy sets of 10 and work up to a single heavy rep on 18"DL but that wasnt gonna happen today :D

I'm lookin at doin a strongman contest in OCtober, which again has 18"dl as an event, so thats why i wanna get workin heavy on them again

Zerchers as usual were hard on the upper forrearms, but arms are gettin used to the feelin..forgot to take my sleeves like I would use in SM competition ah well :)

today will be ME bench, took yesterday off instead of today

but did do some liftin

at fire trainin we did search adn rescue in a tanning salon that just closed. so we fogged out the empty building

WE have a 225lb dummy, gues swho got to carry it to the truck, unload it..drag it out during training..then carry it back to the truck to take back, then unload again lol


then today helped move a freezer and a fridge for the county fair, my moms pierogi shop will be there :)

I'd say go for it. I did that once, and got 190. Two weeks later got the big 2-0-0. It wont hinder you at all, just dont flat bench until you max out.

well here it was :)

Bench: 45x10, 95x5, 135x5...then put the bench shirt on with the help of my 2 friends/spotters...135x3, 185x3, 205x1(easy), 225x1(PR), 240x0, 230x1(PR)

SO I got a 15lb PR :)...so ive maxed all 3 lifts during the program lol(forgive me :) ) but max out in 2 weeks...i WILL get more

notes:
-135 with the shirt felt SO light
-205 was 1lb less than my PR, was a joke
-225 was easy
-240 was THIS close to lockin out, just couldnt lock it

**-All lifts were done with narrower than usual grip...the rack for the bar was narrow, so i had my hands out as far as possible, but all that meant was pinkies on the rings, i like to put 2nd and middle fingers on them, or wider :)

bench PR has LOOOOOONNNG been a stumbling block
noticed the shirt first few reps with 185...kinda lost the groove(as muhc as you can with a poly), and noticed the bar pull down or up
oncei learned the line I liked was better..the 230 still pulled abit up, but not as bad

we were relaxed, shootin the breeze between sets..i couldnt get pumped and all psyched for some reason..so i was REALLY happywith it

maxed today...took a friend with as a spotter
drank a bit last night, couldnt have helped :D

I WILL max again next week..decided to skip week 8 and do 2 weeks with a max...that way I can learn how I like it since its my first times, doin all 3 lifts in 1 day, comp. style...just felt ready to max!

i tried something i read in monster muscle, from powerlifter Eric Maroscher..about Freud's Id, and not yelling, etc...but savin the energy totally for the lift...IMO I do much better gruntin, yellin and gettin loud before it ..just me though

also next week will take more time between lifts and get more psyched

280 was a 5lb PR, felt HEAVY compared to last week when i almost got 3 on box squats..ah well....3 will go up next week :cool:


BENCH
warmups: 45x7(explosive), 135x1(easy)
LIFTS:185x1, 217x1(pr), 225x0, 225x1(PR)
comments:185 was ****, i started it way too high up towards my neck...225 first time couldnt lock it...moved in my grip a tad and struggled it up badly, but got it 2nd attempt..its the weight ive been wantin forever..very happy here.

DEADLIFT
warmup: 135x1(FAST)
LIFTS:225x1(FAST), 315x1(EASY!), 405x0, 405x0, 365x1
comments: these were EASY today..315 flew up like 135..supririsingly, just couldnt get 405 past my knees...got it off the ground, but got stuck there..think my legs were dead from squats...if id have gotten above my knees, ive done so many 18"s i easily woulda got it



COMMENTS:

Squat->felt heavy, confident for 300 next week

Bench->program REALLY helped me off the bottom of the lift...really need to build the top inches...all lifts exploded right off the bottom, just have trouble locking it out..will fix next cycle :)..could've prolyl gotten upwards of 3 off my chest, but lockout = problem :)

DL->problem=first part of lift..off ground, then around shins..if its above my knees, i guarantee i'll lock it....my weakpoint here and squats = legs..NEED more leg power...all my DL's are all back...very strong lower back, but my legs(squats) and lockouts(bench) are severly lagging comparitvely to my DL total

ah well..will try again next week :)

after we finished that all
we worked with Olympic lifts a bit..so i actually had someone who kinda knew them to help me with form

worked with the split jerk after the clean

and also did snatches for the first time

worked up to many sets of 95lbs on snatches..good for my first time with NO legs left hehe

just practiced C&J and snatches on the explosiveness and the split jerk part..feel MUCH better about these now

will DEFINATELY work these into my next program(maybe 3x3)
i wanna get to be like shane hamman
im gonna cut a bit..do some O-Lifts, Plyo, etc
i wanna become strong, but also decent looking, big and a decent athelete...just wanna get some explosive leg drive :)

yeah, 315 wasajoke! even my friend was like WTF>.usually 315 is decently heavy, today went up like a joke..maybe if i was fresh and did DL first 405 woulda came up :)

no, todays benching was totally raw :)


yeah, O-lifts are fun, HARD as workout too...like cardio, all the sweat! its nice :)

Our (raw) bench is about the same, but you DL a heck of a lot more than me. And squats, I'll find out within the next month as I try to ween myself off the smith machine.

For bench: Close Grip Rack lockouts, and board presses should help. Tricep work!!

For Deadlift:Olympic lifts like powercleans should help your explosiveness off the floor. You could do extra ROM deadlifts to help the bottom.

gonna hybrid it adding in some Olympic Lifts and a minimal amoutn of Plyometrics

I wanna not only become stronger, but also faster/more explosive, bigger/leaner, and more of a total "athlete"...Big, ripped, fast, athletic and strong

I like the looks of the new program alot. Its going to be nice watching your streangth progress through this. I think after football ill probley pursue such a routine as that. LOL During my training this summer I forgot about that speed and agility and plyometrics and stuff hehe, not good. Is a vert jump were you jump strait up, your standard jump?

here goes..been avoiding this since Saturday bc Im embarassed/pissed/frustrated about what happened, but I wont leave everyone hanging
long story, but if your gonna comment on it or read, please read it all..

theres 7 stations...6 required(Medical, Trauma, AED, Long Spine Board, KED) and a random

I flew thru alot of them...wasnt bad at all once I got goin and the nerves went away

thought I passed them all

got called in 1 by 1 to the room being used as the state representative(a state EMS rep)'soffice

she tells me I failed my medical station....i talk to the others and realize I missed 1 step...my bad

It was a scenario that totally caught me off guard and I missed a step..figured o well, I could honestly recite the entire sheet(study sheet was same they use to grade you and pass/fail you) back and forth, no biggie

I go to retest(if you fail 1-3 stations, u can retest them once more same day)


I get caught offguard again, but go straight down the sheet, making sure to hit each point...basically, first 5 steps are simple(no additional help needed, wearing gloves, etc)
go thru the next few(rapid transport, general impression, level of conciousness, etc)

i get to my ABC's after that(airway, breathing, circulation)
thats the #1 thing on the sheet...you work down to there, and do NOT go on until you fix that....well my scenario was a 6yr old choking on candy..so I stopped...said "now ill do my ABC's...airway is obviously blocked, so to fix that id....etc"

long story short, I go back to her office. If you had a comment/concern/complaint about anything, you had to bring it up BEFORE they tell you pass/fail(stupid IMO)...so I say, I did this, this this, step by step, and couldnt go on bc of airway problems)the state rep tells me I failed my retest, im like why? shes like I cant tell you, were here to test, not to learn...im like then what are the complaints even for if your not even gonna give me an answer or comment on it...she wuldnt give me an answer..i go i can recite the damn sheet for you, and verbally go step by step, telling everything i WOULD do, AND what I couldnt/wouldnt do, and why....show EXTREME proficiency...she says again, sorry...so I say whatever, open the door( was pissed so the door kinda slammed open) and walked out..instructor 1 grabs me and tells me to settle down, i walk away, the other guy, pat, pulls me inot another room..me and Pat are friends, hes a great guy...he really cared I could tell and tried to calm me down and comfort me...

well I found out 2 things since Saturday:
1) I failed bc my tester said I did not open the airway...1) i said, onto my ABCs, for airway....2) the scenario had the kid lying on the ground...kids airways are open when their head is in a natural lying position...3) I ventilated, to ventilate effectively, the airway HAS to be open to get any air IN

2) the State Rep was upset with my attitude, says I almost hit her with the door, and is probably writing me up for "unprofessional behavior" which can have consequences anywhere from nothing to not being allowed to retest that station, to being barred from becoming an EMT in Indiana.


Well see what happens..I have another chance by protocol at that station, september 13th...I know Ill pass easily..but its the principle. I havent even turned my fire pager on this weekend ive been so disgusted with it all, plus I dont frankyl want to deal with the officers on the department who i know are gonna ask about it or comment, and dont wanna answer to anyone or talk about it. Right now I frankly dont care if I get my certification or not..Im perfectly fine with just finishing my degree and being like a strength coach or something..thats how upset I am at it all..and Ive been thinking about it for 3 days and calmed down since(until I found out bout the write up about 20min ago)

Some people are just fked up. People with senority take pride in going on Power Trips. Dont lose sight your goals man! Keep your head up long enough and go strong and you will prevail. IM sure you know all about that though!!!!!!!!

all i wanna do is get down to school, have a great time, and hit the new gym I signed up at :) Its called Flex Appeal..they have lots of strongman equipment...a pro strongman as a trainer...and a wall of fame where theres red writing in specific areas for bench, dead, squat and contest

so before next summer my goal is to get on that wall with a 500 deadlift :cool: time to get workin on that, a nice stepping stone on my way to the world record :)
I plan to train harder than ever, watch my diet better, lean out, and get faster/stronger/bigger/more explisive/more athletic

big goals
but I wanna come back next summer and have my friends/family be like "DAMN boy, what you been eating!?" and such
lofty goals, but then again, aim for the heavens..even if you fall short, youll be among the stars :)

old 1 RM was 180 before this last program, so 185xTHREE wasnt bad :)

anyways, Im jsut puttin this here bc the other thread is new and unclutterred with this, and i told you all the story here in this journal, so I figure id finish the story here....then i promise ill let this die and keep it to my new one :)


found otu some more today about my situation with the EMT test and the state


i guess she DID write me up and IS probably barring me from becoming an EMT in Indiana

the EMS commision of Indiana now considers me "unprofessional" and "violent"

ive been told to write a letter of apology, if I mean it or not, anad hopefully that will let me retest..but they still might not let me get certified


plus my fire chief/captain are pissed I havent writtne one yet, so bc of that and my being "violent" they prolly wotn let me work for them I was told today by my roomie who hearsinside things like that from captain


they told the whole story and talked about it to him, but NONE of them, chief captain ANYONE,has contacted me about it or what to do, or to even check on how im doing..they KNOW how hard I took that

so I think thats QUITE ****tyof them, and makes me not wanna write my letter even more

at this point, Im ready to just let it go and move on, finish my health and fitness degree, double major and minor within the same area, and try and become a strength coach somewhere. Seriously, all that makes me happy anymore is powerlifting/strongman/the gym. Before I thought firefighting did moreso, but not anymore..not with the way theyve acted lately...they talk all about the brotherhood..yeah, with my other boys on the deparmtnet...not the leadership...they dont give a **** as long as they dont get their hands dirty..which is even worse bc we all live close by, were volunteer and all on first name basis...its a small volunteer department, not some huge career where youd expect that. It has left a VERY bad taste in my mouth and I dont wanna deal with it at this point in my life. I see fire engines roll every day here at Purdue, and yeah I miss runnin the siren in the truck and the excitement of the cal.. But I dont miss the sleepless nights, missed workouts, missed activities...I am enjoying sleeping thru the night, my first true college expeience, and lifting and eating like never before. At this point I just dont feel a need or burden to deal with it..im at peace just letting it go and dealing with it in the future if I so decide. I dunno...Im gonna think about it ALOT more, and I know all of you are gonna tell me to write the letter and just bite the bullet on this one...but like everyones parents always told them..sometimes the right thing isnt popular, and the popular thing isnt right...sometimes you just gotta stand up for what you believe in, and accept the consequences. Between the way I was treated the day of the test, afterwards by my department(leaders, not members) and the general lack of caring by anyone but my roomates as to if I even made it safely home( i was hysterical leaving the building..enraged, bawling, just every emotion)...noone even called to make sure I didnt wrap my car around a tree on the way home. Like I said, I am at peace with just enjoying these years of my life Ill never get back.
ANy advice is welcome.

Damn bro, that sucks. I dont know what to say. It sucks that you just got cheated out of an EMT degree you worked so hard for. Maybe you should just write the letter, maybe you shouldnt. Its up to you. Maybe contact them via other methods.

im gonna write the letter

then I can say whatever happens, I did EVEYTHING asked of me, and passed it in the top 3% or so of my class(finished 3rd in the class grade wise, 3rd on the state written in my class, and i think T-2nd on the class final)...i can say i didall that, got screwed, passed themedical station at my retest AGAIN, and then either got it the hard way or got screwed again

then its all on them, not me..i wont regret a thing..ill have done everything I could..AND stood up for what I believed in...and I can be at peace with that.

Damn that sucks. Whatever you choose, I hope it works out.

But have you considered certification in another state? Probably mean having to go through the whole process again, but it would be a fresh start.
