OBviously, he works very hard and he has a phenomenal physique.......but I just cant get my head around the fitness model thing. Watching the competition was a bit nauseating for me. Its seems very feminine......maybe its because I am used to watching fitness women at bbing shows. But there is just something about a bunch of men in a line shaking their butt for the audience that makes me want to run away. I know people say the same thing about bodybuilders......but the fitness modeling seems to take the ackwardness of standing on stage in your underwear to the next level. I guess there is some money in it though....

I totally agree, the commentary on the end show just made me think wow this is quite feminine but watching the effort he puts out in the gym in the 20 or so weeks coming up to this show, makes me have so much respect to him. Im pretty sure he said he has taken part in body building competitions.

I disagree. It's what they chosen to do and while it would not [nor could] be something I would chose to do, I respect their decision to do it, without judgment. Here is the countervailing point for what "we do" when we allow ourselves to judge.

I just cannot wrap my head around the bodybuilding thing because Bodybuilders are nothing more the narcissistic knuckle dragging Neanderthals. I bet you couldn't find an IQ higher than a 5th grader in the whole lot. How can anyone stand on stage in something less than underwear, wearing a fake (and bad I might add) tan, contorting into unnatural positions. It is all too unseemly for me. Plus, they all take illegal drugs (emphasis). But, I guess there is some money in it.

Tell me about it!! Less than 8 weeks until show time and I feel like my brain is lost half the time. I'm already starting to be forgetful during the day... I can't wait until the show gets here. On a side note, my wife got me a great bday present last week... the weekend after my show she is renting us a limo and we are visiting about 10 different vinyards in our area for a day of wine tasting. Wine is the one thing Ive missed the most while in prep mode. LOL I will be drunk after two glasses at that point.

I reread my post and perhaps I came off a little judgmental (although I dont think I came off to the extreme that you are implying).......regardless judgement wasnt my intent. Obviously, its what these guys want to do..... I just dont personally care for it. But I wouldnt dislike anyone or judge anyone based on their choice of sport. I might bust their chops (if we were friends) but I wouldn't seriously judge them as feminine of gay because of what they do. I know full well that I am judged all the time because im a bodybuilder.....perhaps with the stereotypes you listed. And that bothers me.....so I certainly wouldnt do that to someone else. IN fact, I would say that a lot of those guys (especially the winner) would do awesome on a natural bodybuilding stage.......and I guess thats really the root of my confusion.....why would you do the fitness thing over bodybuilding? Just seems strange to me (but a non-judgemental strange) ;).

I dunno - seems pretty clear to me; this kind of fitness contest as well as girls bikini is based on sex. Sexier the better. No hate on their choice, I know it takes work. Why do it? Well sex sells, everyone wants to be sexy, attractive what-have-you, helps promote modeling career better than bbing etc etc. However, when I'm on stage I couldn't care less if I look attractive or sexy. I want to be the nastiest, beefiest, sickest most shredded freak on stage. Apples and oranges in my eyes. Similar means in terms of the weight room - but vastly diverged ends, and goals for that matter.

And, I am sure to others outside of bodybuilding, in their opinion, your kind of contest is based on drugs and other illegal behavior. Neither holds true. But again, the point is trivializing some else's choice. And because you do not care about "looking attractive & sexy", it is condescending to imply that that is 'their' only concern.

Further, they may hold with the same esteem your goal of wanting to be "the nastiest, beefiest, sickest most shredded freak on stage." We feign the promotion of positive images and aspects of “Natural Bodybuilding” but when given the chance, we do exactly that of which we complain most.

You read WAY too much into what I said - I didn't say it was a bad thing. Oak asked why someone would choose to do it and I ventured my opinion why. I'm trying to figure it out too. Maybe dismount the steed a bit there.

But still I feel bad I pissed you off - not my intent, srs.

Don't be! Part of the blame lies w/me. While I hold to the premise of my argument, my reaction [comments] was disproportionate (over the top) for the topic at hand and came across as attacking as opposed to explaining by analogy. So, as suggested, I'm 'dismounting the steed' - LOL!
