View Full Version : 189 g protein, 3224 cals per day and plateauing?

Okay. So this is strange. I hit 189 g protein and 3224 cals per day last week.... and I'M LOSING WEIGHT.

I've been building mass steadily on a super clean legumes, meat, and low-glycemic carbs diet for 3 weeks (9 pounds lean, to be exact!), but my gains are slowing and plateauing. I had two days where I lost weight at the end of last week, so I reduced protein and calories by 1/2 on Saturday (hoping I would somehow reset my system).

I also added an ADDITIONAL 1 quart of organic whole milk (which should bring me up closer to 4000 cals and 220 grams of protein) this week. IN SHORT, I AM CONSISTENTLY NEAR 150% OF MY DAILY CALORIE AND PROTEIN-INTAKE GOAL. On monday, I was up two pounds again, but today I dropped 1.4 lbs.

I'm following my workout plan and adding weight as needed. WTF???

HOW CAN I POSSIBLY BE LOSING WEIGHT AND LIKE THIS AND BE EATING AS MUCH AND AS CLEANLY AS I'M EATING?

My current investigation is cutting my morning cup of Yerba Mate (caffeinated) out of my diet to see if that changes anything.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Or, maybe you all have an idea what section of the forum might be a better place to post this question.

Thanks in advance - off to a nice big plate of lettuce-wrapped, grass fed beef tacos with avocado. Yumbo!

Best,

Very simple you are A) Not really eating as much as you think you are or B) Eat more since you are burning more then you intake.

Also very important! Dont lost questions in the Nutrition Logs =P

That alone will make you gain LEAN MASS! ;)

Thanks for the response, Ian. WHERE SHOULD I POST QUESTIONS LIKE THIS? I'm new to the forums.

Also, I am getting that exact amount of cals and protein. I use an Escali food scale. There's no way that I'm burning this much. All I'm doing is some light yoga in the morning, an occasional short jog in the afternoon, cold showers 2x/day, and 1x/week at the gym. Pretty slim on exercise at the moment.

Any other possibilities?

(I'll repost elsewhere when I know where - then the scales are going to tip!)

Pura vida,

Nate

I dont know how lean you are, Could your muscles just be using fat storage to burn?
