Hey guys

I was doing a bit o research and came across this weight loss theory In regards to how much weight we can lose without effecting muscle composition.

The theory is the max we should drop cals a day per day dependent on how much fat we have, 31 cal per pound of fat you can drop cals eg:
20lbs bf to lose 20 X 31= 620 cals before you start eating away at muscle.
Bmr - 620 cals = max fat loss.

How accurate is this because if this theory is correct I could eat 1300 cal a day (1900 below maintenance) and not lose muscle. Clearly you would have to adjust cals regularly.

Apparently this research was conducted by Lyle mcdonald. True or false?

Sounds like you want to do a literature review on pubmed.com and see if anyone has done work to support the theory.

that is pretty interesting, but maybe this is for only for those who do not exercises/cardio regularly.

If your BMR is 1900, thats the cals you would need to eat to maintain weight at rest. Obviously you would be traing and doing cardio if ur interested in fat loss, so somewhere down the line you would have to factor in how many calories your burning a in a day or a week.

i.e. say you burn 500cals a day + your BMR = 2400 Cals a day and then subtract the 34 or w/e cals a lb for maximum calorie deficit.

so say you subtract 600cals from 2400 = 1800 cals a day (hmm that still seems low, but then ne thing under ur losing muscle)

Im jst thinking out loud, i jst dont see how someone could possibly consume only 1300cals a day and able to maintain muscle comp.
