I recently lost 40 lbs of weight and I have some (not a lot) loose skin on my stomach. Some due to the excess weight and I'm sure some is due to past pregnancies. I'm afraid it will never go away. Any tips on non surgical options?

patience.

i have 3 kids and lost 140 pounds after the last one. i reasoned that i'd rather have the skin empty than the skin full...but with time it is shrinking! i have started body brushing to give it a boost. also, a good quality vitamin C aids the body in collagen production.

good luck

At 33 years old...your body should not have a problem tightening that skin back up..as you still have elasticity in your skin. Their may still be some excess fat if its been awhile and still not tight.

As for anything that might help thats non surgical... their is a good product you can buy if you do a google search called "emu oil". its used at top hospital burn centers and not only helps repair skin, but also restores elasticity. In the winter time my wife has a horrible time with her skin drying out, so I tend to make her soap at home with essential oils and Emu oil...she has not had a dry skin problem since.

I am in the same boat!! I had baby #3 (in 3 years) in 11/09 and have since lost 91 lbs. I am having issues with loose skin under my belly button area also. 3 c-sections later I have a pooch and with the weight loss it seems worse. I am about 10lbs from my 'goal' weight, so once I get there I will see what I can do to improve it. I hate the thought of surgery as it is a horribly long recovery. So i'll have to see what else can be done. Good luck!

I was just having this conversation with my trainer the other day. I was mentioning that even after hitting my weight loss goals I was afraid that my lower abdominal area might not be as tight as I like after weight gain, 2 pregnancies, and a c-section. He said that he could provide me with a protocol that might help. It involves Vitamin C, Q10 enzyme, and Zinc in specific ratios to help boost collagen and improve skin elasticity. I suspect that in my case however, that it might require surgery, but then I'm older than you.

I'm still at the stage where I have fat left to burn but I am concerned about this issue too. I have been researching non surgical procedures like ultrasound therapy. Doc said it will not be as dramatic a change as surgery but will tighten the skin by forcing the underlying skin to produce more collagen.

One of my friends recently made the decision to have a tummy tuck after having lost over 50 pounds and still not being able to get rid of the loose skin/pooch that remained. She's one of the most dedicated people I know, yet despite her best efforts, she was unable to make any more progress.

Was it worth it? Yes! She would do it all over again. True, there can be a lengthy total recovery time. There can be complications. It can be emotional. But if it lifts a burden from your shoulders, why not?

Until her procedure, I was never sure if I would actually go through with something like that. Now, when the time is right and I've exhausted every possible solution to my loose skin problem, I will definitely consider it.

That having been said, I'm curious to research more about the supplements that have been mentioned here. I'm 36, and while I'm sure my skin still has a good bit of elasticity, why not help things along?!? :)

This is advice and opinions from friends of mine who had children, just give it time and I mean alot of time. I am in the same boat and I don't anticipate my skin to be back to normal for another year, and my son is already 18 months...such a long process.

My abs never went back to normal.. I ended up having surgery because I was so unhappy with myself... Some people can get it where they have little to no extra skin and others not so much. Good luck! You need to be happy with yourself though, but be patient and be at your weight goal too...
