So i went to the doctor and they told me i needed to lose weight cause i was overweight for my height.
5'1"ish
136 pounds
Worked out
ate pretty good
no fried/soda's
But then he gave me a diet and the total day calories was 1,100.
I was like, um are you sure this is right because i don't want to lose alot of the muscle i have gained while working out...
btw-i have been lifting since 18-19 years old and i have made so much improvemets, stregth and deffinition. From doing 25 on tricip pull downs to 85 pounds, a 50 pound squat to 105 pounds 3 sets of 12, and im proud of myself.
So i talk to my mom and she is always saying rachel your arms look just bigg and you cant even see your muscle and in your clothes you look big. No one would know you worked out unless you told them.
You look (dare i say it)
bulky.
So.. i do the diet. I started January 4, 2011.
Since then weighing in today i weigh 124 pounds,
going from 136 to 124.. thats 12 pounds, in about a month.
Plus i have been doing nrol fat loss program a week before christmas
and im on fat loss 2 right now.
Im scared that it is all muscle or so.
I have been taking
-3 whole foods vitamins= 1 serving
-2 servings of Bcaa's a day = 6 pills
-2 servings a day of effa lean gold = 6 pills
What do you think?

You are eating way too little, and should not be losing more than 6 lbs a month at your size. If you want to keep your muscle, I highly recommend bumping your calories up to 1600 (which should not be too high if you were losing that quickly).
By the way, how much of that was in the first week? The first week can be mostly water weight, so if a lot of it was then it would be less worrisome.

Yeah, then you are definitely losing too fast.

Get a new doctor! Seriously you do not need to lose any weight just focus on lifting heavy and building muscle.

What kind of diet did they give you?? I am curious to know. It is hard for us shorter people to follow diets for ladies who are taller. I am struggling to find a proper diet.

It was hard to follow cause when you go to find things to equal the calories given i had to follow it wouldn't even add up.
I had to try to do my own thing, Like i have this food planner thing and it felt like would hardly eat anything, like a protein shake, protein bar, broccoli and chicken, then head to work and i only have like 300 calories left. and that was with working out that day its so hard
this is a example of what they gave me
breakfast-
2 whole wheat waffles
2 pats of low fat butter
2 tbsp of syrup
1 cup of fruit
1 glass of water
lunch
1 large tossed saled
2 tbsp of dressing
6 ounces of chicken
1 cup of wheat thin crackers
12 ounces of water
snack
1 medium peach
dinner
1 large tossed saled
2 tbsp of dressing
6 ounces of chicken
1 cup of green beans
2 pats of low fat butter
12 ounces of water
snack-
2 graham crackers
and they say that's suppose to equal 1105

Holy moly!! A doctor gave you an 1100 calorie diet to follow...!? You don't even look like you need to lose weight! And 1100 calories is ridiculous! Ahhhh!! If I were you I'd do like Britchick884 said- eat a normal amount of food and when you go to the gym lift heavy and focus on building up some muscle!!! You don't need to lose weight.

You are so tiny I can't believe you were told to lose weight let alone that you looked 'bulky'. That diet example reminds me how horrible low cal/low fat can be - I want to cry on your behalf and/or smack that eejit doctor.
How did you feel at 136? Has your lifting/energy suffered now that you lost weight? If I were you I'd recomp, lift heavy and eat at a small surplus i.e. based on proper cals/macros and not that ludicrous 1100.

In reality, I don't think those pictures show much. You can hide 10-15 lbs of fat just by wearing certain clothing and taking a picture a certain way, so it is very possible she had fat to lose.
Anyways, if you still think you need to lose fat, 1600 calories is a good number. Otherwise, go back up to maintenance, which should be around 1800-2000 calories depending on your activity level.

I'd find a new doctor to start with.
Second, do you really have fat to lose, or is the doc going strictly off of your weight?

I think your DR is a total nut bar! Frankly, if an MD is telling YOU to drop weight, they need to be investigated for malpractice. At your size, sticking with that calorie count and even walking around the block daily could actually kill you.
Be your own advocate, which you already started by posting here and PLEASE find another DR.
(Believe it or not, I was once your size and they figured I needed 1500-1800 calories a day. I didn't start gaining FAT till I was eating 1800-2000 calories a day and had 2 C-sections and a hysterectomy, after each I was told not to "work out" for 2 years, so the incisions would heal.)

1100 calories?!?! Wow, yeah, I agree with people when they say to find a new doctor. Your doctor might not know the difference between muscle and fat when it comes to weight. You've been lifting since you were 18, it's only reasonable you look thinner than you actually weigh because of all the muscle!
Layne Norton has always said that the rule of thumb when you're cutting (without losing muscle) is only at 1-1.5 lbs/wk - any loss more than that is most probably due to muscle.
It's already difficult to lose weight when you're at 136, and to lose 12 pounds in a month is awfully too fast. I fear that most of that is muscle.

OP, you are a prime example of why the BMI is a worthless piece of S***! Your Dr. most likely told you to lose weight, because you were, at 136lbs, considered overweight on the BMI chart.
I was considered "obese" on the BMI scale a few years ago when I weighed 194lbs but had three lines for my abs and was in the best shape of my life.
The BMI is an absolute piece of crap. You look great, and more importantly it is how YOU feel. Not what your parents say, not what the BMI tells you, but how you feel in relation to your goals. If you play a sport or are lifting heavy at 136lbs and you are performing well, then who the F*%# cares if you are 136lbs.
Someone else said it, but if you feel the need to "change" do a recomp. Otherwise, keep doing what you do best, and don't stress.
(sorry for my soap box approach, it just irks me to no end when Dr's go solely off the BMI.)

Though 1100 calories is definitely retarded, I agree with terracotta that these pictures don't show much. 136 pounds at OP's height means a ****load of muscle mass, kimm4 weighs 127 pounds, and she is 5'4.
I would do what terracotta said.

Unless this Dr. was an RD or has his RD he has no business prescribing a diet, that's why most practices and hospitals have a resident RD on staff, most MDs are clueless about this stuff.

I ran into this too. I went to my doctor thinking I had thyroid issues because I couldn't lose weight and she tried to put me on something like this and I'm 5'8"! Turns out I actually needed to eat more and when I went for a follow up appointment I was sure to voice my concern about her horrible advice.
