im currently a pitcher in baseball who is looking to gain some mass to my frame. my fastball is about 82-83 mph which is decent for my size and i am trying to get to 90 by next year in college.
point being, if i am to take a bit of a protein diet to get a lean/ large frame, how much should i take without going over about 20 added pounds? (im at 166ish right now)
also, should i get some whey to use if i dont have anything to eat? i have heard from various sources that it can be good when you need some protein. my biggest fear through all of this is becoming too big, or bigger that what i as a pitcher can handle but i think i got it right at about 20 lbs max.
feel free to put in any input here, i am not new to lifting but i have not experimented with diets/ supps at all. thx

indeed.
my .02 - i would advise you look into the topic of diet. this is going to be the foundation of guiding your success to your goal of adding (quality) weight.
on a side-note: adding 7-8mph on your fastball simply by adding 20lbs bodyweight is highly unlikely imo..
but understand, it is not protein increase that is going to help you gain weight. protein helps build muscle, but - because of how it is broken down by the digestion system (30% of every gram you take in gets used just to digest it), it is the most thermic of the macronutrients..carbs and fats are not as difficult for the body to break down and absorb, therefore less of those macros are used in the digestion process. it is for this reason that increasing protein-to-carb/fat ratio will result in bodyfat reduction (provided overall caloric intake is suitable).
while increasing your protein intake will surely help you in your goals, it is your overall caloric intake that you will have to increase, in order to gain weight. :)
