I had an appendectomy yesterday. Has anyone dealt with one of these before? Doctor told me I cannot lift anything over 10-15 pounds for about a month. It would risk tearing my sutures and causing a hernia. Anyone have an idea how long before I can get back to weight lifting regularly?

Follow your doctors advice and start back up light when he says it's okay. You have the rest of your life to lift, you don't want to mess it up by getting back into the gym to soon. Just focus on eating right and enjoying the time off.

Definitely going to listen to doctor. Just curious if anyone has this experience and knows how long it took them to get back into things

My brother had an emergency appendectomy and he was back in the swing of things within a few weeks. Rather easy recovery for him.
I wish you a speedy recovery!

I had one the week after Thanksgiving. I was told the same thing by my doctor. For the first 3 weeks after, I did not lift anything over 10lbs. By the 4th week, I was increasing my weights. I didn't do any squats or dl's for the 6 weeks.

Appreciate that FWF. The appendicitis randomly struck me while I was napping one afternoon

I was in the hospital for a week. I had a CAT Scan, Colonoscopy, and an appendectomy.

Did your appendix rupture? Doctors said I had appendicitis for over 48 hours and the appendix usually bursts within 36 hours, so I got quite lucky since it was just extremely inflamed. Surgery was at 5p so I only had to stay in hospital overnight.
I had blood samples and CT scan done to determine it was indeed appendicitis. Fortunately, I am still an ass virgin. Maybe that is because I am much younger

never had one but......
your doctors your best friend on this one.......everyones healing time will be different, and trust me, you dont wanna tear and sutures or anything, seen enough of that on the ambulance, not a comfortable thing................and hell if you get a hernia, that could be another surgery down the road.
take your time to heal up mang, and get better soon :D
