Hi All, Any help will be a great help.

Im trying to lose "weight" as well as tone up, the sucky part of my problem is that im currently trying to join the Police Force and they go by BMI (you need to be below 30) and at my weight and hight im 31.5! But when ever i try and talk to some of friends they just say i dont need to lose weight and the subject gets dropped. I dont see being 85kgs (about 187pounds) at 5' 5' is a healthy weight no matter how much muscle i have. I would really love to lose around 15 - 20kgs.

Right now i would love to find a way to cut "weight" without losing to much muscle mass as being fit is also needed to join the Police.

Im really starting to lose motivation as i have a lot of negetive people around me who dont believe in me and i would love to hear from some positive people

Thanks xo

Try this www.hotnfit.com/fat_loss.htm or read the stickies in the forums.

If you eat enough protein and calories and do weight training you will be able to keep your lean body mass.

Well, I work in law enforcement, I've done those tests many times. Unfortunately your friends are correct, you will need to drop that weight (which you are already aware of and that's great).

Diet is going to be one of your main issues but you don't want to drop too low in calories because you'll need to work hard on your fitness. Work on your running, both distance (by that I mean 5km or sometimes 10km max) and HIIT. Primarily HIIT and sprinting as that's what you'll do in academy and recruit training, and the job of course. Crossfit's workout called "Fight Gone Bad" is a very good replica of the type of workouts you will be doing - I suggest doing it and gauging your progress. Lots of deadlifts, squatting, pushups, pullups, etc.

Not going to lie, it takes a lot of work to get there, especially for us ladies. It took me two years to pass it but that's because I lacked any muscle mass when I started.

Good luck

Thank you so much Sonti, its really good to hear from someone who has done it! its taking me forever to get in for other health reason so its giving me extra time to work on my weight and fitness.. I do cross fit now so ill see where i can start doing the "Fight gone bad"

I do a lot of fun runs so ill add more HIIT into the mix too.

Its so great to get actual feedback instead of hearing "why you won’t make it anyway so why you trying so hard" or "you’re not fat don’t worry" ... It’s bad when my friends are in denial and i’m not lol

It's really unfortunate that you have "friends" that don't support you and give you positive feedback. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that will give you the positive feedback that will be your biggest motivator! I know you'll reach your goal its just a matter of when. I hope everything works out and make sure you surround yourself with people who actually want to see you succeed.

Keep us updated on your progress!

I've worked in policing as a civilian for over 7 years now, I know dozens of people who trained to become police officers, and I can say that each & every one of them (bar a few guys) struggled to train for it! You are in a better position needing to lose weight than needing to build muscle, because you've got more muscle. Muscle is important. Do you know your choice of police department's entrance requirements? I would recommend phoning the recruiting officer (just call the department and they'll put you through). Let them know who you are and that you want some advice on how to train for them. Don't be shy or scared! That's what they are there for! I did the same thing (although I already knew him lol) and he really helped me out.

Good luck!! You CAN train for this. It's hard, but it's not impossible. Yes, if you were a 5'11 175lb man it would be easier, LOL, but you aren't so you have to work with what you've got. For what it's worth, at least I could really beat them all on the obstacle course because I was a shortie :)

Oh and I heard that same bull**** feedback too. I ended up not going through the academy because I had a baby instead but that had nothing to do with my fitness. Fitness is very important but composure, attitude, and conflict resolution skills are way more important. Wrestling someone coming at you with a knife is an unfortunate reality, while rare, although knowing when to pull your gun or even better, de-escalating that situation in the first place is key.

I know it’s going to be super hard and I have the drive to do it because it’s been my dream since I first found out what a cop was. Not sure where you live Sonti but New South Wales (Aust) police all have to go through the academy for the fitness and physical part of the training and the fitness test is crazy easy but im to “heavy” which sucks.

I know what the fitness tests will be and luckily the academy has training plans on their website so I know what to do... it’s the staying positive that im finding hard when im around such negative people .. people who complain about being fat but won’t even come for a walk or be my gym buddy.. I’m thinking ill need to find more like minded people to surround myself.

As much as it’s the last thing I ever want to do ill start posting my workouts and progress photos on my body space .. if I know you guys are behind me ill try harder to make your proud :)
